Lara Croft and, Nathan Drake. Nathan Drake murders his fellow man in pursuit of shining antiquities from days long past. Lara does the same thing only she also murders animals and sometimes monsters, also for shiny antiquities. I think Lara is the worse character though since she offers male game-players partial nudity if they help her murder her archaeological rivals. What's that Lara? you'll take off your top and swim around a bit if I help you blingify your house? Alright!
your post makes zero sense. nathan drake kills no one in pursuit of antiquities. he kills in self defense because the others attack him first when he goes after antiquities.

on topic: the protagonists of grand theft auto. they appear to be people wronged by the world, but all they are is hypocritical mass murders, thieves and extortionists.

Disgrace to gaming is a pretty heavy way of putting it, but characters I despise? Marcus Fenix neatly sums up pretty much everything I hate about the modern game action hero. He's dark and full of rage and badass and edgy and probably practices extreme sports in his spare time!

Hell, he might sum up everything I despise in people. He is the Fred Durst of videogames.

Serrano from Bulletstorm is pretty annoying.
He is racist, ugly, evil, talks too much, and much much more.

AND

You don't get to properly kill him, and I'm pretty sure he will be back in the sequel

He looks like an older version of Ocelot from MGS3. : I

My personal vote, with the hatred fueled by the energy of a million supernovas, goes towards Alex Mercer from Prototype.

I'll probably have to say it...

Master Chief.

I'm safe, all the little 10 year old Halo fanbois can't reach me with their fanatical cries about how I'm wrong from here.

Nathan Drake

No question

He is without doubt the WORST character ever written. Nothing is charming about him, nothing likable, he's just made to be PERFECT. And that is your problem. You don't make a realism game and throw in a perfect character. There needs to be flaws to make the character seem vulnerable or make the bad guys seem intimidating. Not only is he "perfect" but every time he opens his mouth I just want to beat him to death with a crow bar. Its like playing as Justin Beiber, made to look handsome, embarrass other people within the same category (singers), and very very annoying!
Just looking at him is embarrassing.
The ironic thing is that the developers made Nathan Drake to be likeable and relatable... so how did that turn out?
Think it turned out pretty well, I'm pretty sure it's only the vocal minority that really dislikes him.

That's not a knock on anyone who dislikes him, just pointing out that it's not like, everybody. Or even most people.

But in all honesty I'd have to say the worst and most disgraceful video game character would be Duke Nukem, he stands for everything I despise and makes us gamers look like prepubescent children.

Yes I understand he's a satire but He's not a good one.
(Not picking on you specifically, the satire thing has come up a few times)

The only issue I have with calling Duke 'satire' is that he satirizes a target that is pushing 30 years old now. Modern action heroes, film or game, have long since abandoned the big, dumb, testosterone-fuelled sexist carnage or adopted it with the wink and a smile and a stack of opposing viewpoints to offset their obvious failing. All of which leaves Duke either:
-nostalgia for those who knew him when he was culturally relevant, or
-something making a statement so crassly obvious you have to wonder why the makers bothered making it at all, or
-a bunch of scat and titty jokes with no real purpose but to make players who have never touched a real live boobie before giggle (as documented in the Escapist's supplemental video review)

Basically, whatever space he once filled has long since gone

Master chief- he is generic, he sucks, and the fact that people call him a badass makes me want to puke. He blows and there is nothing remotely interesting about him.

Sonic- please just crawl off in a ditch somewhere and die. Nobody cares about you. Your personality is non existent, just like your brain. You have the I.Q of a coconut.

Starkiller (The force unleashed)- thank you starkiller for ruining my favorite franchise as a child. Everyone remembers that humiliating NOOOOO scene from Darth Vader in Episode 3, you know that scene which is parodied millions of times on youtube? So Lucas Arts who only cares about Money, Money, and more Money decided "Hey guys lets create a protagonist who is magically the most powerful force user that we thought up of in five minutes!" and thus the ugly, generic, cash cow, boring butt baby known as starkiller was born. Thank you starkiller for proving so long as you slap the "OFFICIAL CANNON" stick on anything it sells like crazy to your ravenous story cannon defying, poor writing proof fans!
Master Luke is more powerful than star killer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "Starkiller" or "Starcrusher" or some crap the original name that Lucas wanted to use for his protagonist?

To me, what we're seeing Star Wars turn into is what Lucas wanted all along and was overridden by studio exec's and other producers/directors.

I would have to say Lara Croft in every game she's ever been in

a rich, greedy ***** who has an unbelievable number of dead relatives with rare treasures that all somehow got willed to her but conveniently got left in some temple or wreck (which means the things are up for grabs by anybody)
thus she feels that it's necessary to not only go to take the treasure but to kill everyone along the way even if they pose no threat
I mean is she supposed to be a villain or protagonist?

I bet she'd kill an army of friendly and innocent archeologists if they were uncovering a temple that just happened to hold her twevlth cousin's golden brooch

Micheal Thorton, the lamest game charecter ever, his "bad ass" dialogue options make him sound like an un-bad ass douche, his "sauve" options make him sound like a prick, and his serious options are bland and emotionless.

Every bit of his dialogue is ear grating and makes me want to punch him.

Just looking at him is embarrassing.
so he doesn't fit the average stereotype of your average fatass pimple faced gamer..?

first off nolan north = amazing Voice for the part, as are most of his parts, so I don't see that being a problem there...but correct me if i'm wrong on that.

and secondly why does every character NEED to have a flaw? i mean being perfect in itself is a flaw, is it not? and hell there are MANY times throughout the game where nolan north plays apart the voice very well of nathan drake near shitting his pants in some parts of the game in battles, does he walk around like a complete badass destroying everything while snuffing it off like it was nothing? No, he nearly gets his ass kicked every time and has quite some dumb luck occasionally to get him off the hook from dying.

maybe he has the hairiest ass on the planet, but he doesn't wear shorty shorts so no one's ever seen (do note, he wears pants in both fucking game even though its hotter than bloody hell out in alot of the environments he goes to, not saying all, just some) (also just saying he probably does have flaws, you just seem a bit bias to the point that you might not notice these things in game...)

i don't get how someone can be supposedly perfect, but not likeable or charming...

I'm absolutely heterosexual, but i won't deny he's a decent looking man, for a game character that is, me and him have nothing in common looks wise beyond having somewhat similar hair color.

i don't have a problem with people disliking him, i'm just curious as to the source of your lusted hatred for him is...

Jeeze, all this hate for Tidus...and we all know he's not the disgrace. Don't get me wrong, HE'S BAD but...he is not a disgrace, Oh NO NO NO. The real disgrace? THIS GUY, VAAN:

No reason for tagging along, no bearing on the plot (The last two were something Tidus ATLEAST had), no real motivation, annoying as shit, personality that's just all the worst parts of tidus put into one body..hell, the whole game could have gone on without him even being present. When you're left wandering 'what are you even doing in this game? JUST LEAVE!' You know you're a pretty big disgrace.
after having played the game i could agree, being the supposed "main" of the game, he is entirely fucking useless and adds nothing to the game, he could completely disappear and next to nothing would change, i actually didn't mind the game as a whole, it had some cool things going for it, but i mean WTF, vaan was a piece of shit for the most part when it concerned any kind of emotional grab to or pull to the story.

i will take tidus respectively to ff10 over vaan to ff12 every day of the week.

Heres what I feel: (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SOME GAMES)

When I look at a character, they need to serve a real purpose. I guess I didn't describe Nathan Drake as well as I should have.

Nathan Drake is supposed to be "relatable", all I see is a somehow handsome, non-caring, douchebag who has killed more people than one should care. Before bringing up the issue that: "They shot first" or "Their mercenaries". At some point, one would consider going crazy. He isn't a soldier so he isn't trained to accept the enemies death, and he isn't a civilian so he isn't a wuss. Thats your problem. You can't be perfect in combat and yet somehow be a good looking and witty, as well as extremely successful, as well as mentally healthy.

Now, I guess I sound ironic when I don't like "perfect" characters. What I meant was that I don't like characters that are unrealistically perfect. I loved Alcatraz in Crysis 2, as the nanosuit was the only reason you were alive, you really felt like you could fall apart after enough hits. I also like Master Chief, he was BRED to be a soldier, so when he kills, its understandable that he can handle the fact that he killed something. Nathan Drake is just a super model from Jersey Shore with an AK47, and thats the problem.

I like characters with reasons for their actions. One of my favorites is Noble Six. I may get back lash for it, but I see quite alot of character for an avatar with 5 lines. For starters, his back story is that he is responsible for the dissapearance of hundreds of soldiers. He is also widly spread amongst his talents, particularly lone wolf stuff. Lastly, he is able to assess a situation and understand what he must do, selflessly (He gives his life so a human ship could leave reach)

Nathan Drake...I can't stand, he's just there. All he does is make comments that are supposed to be witty, that EVERY guy would say, while also being relatable and being able to do things only a real soldier could do.

Also I'm not some fat pimpled face geek who needs to see him as relatable. I am a very lean, tall, and quite sarcastic person who likes to delve into things deeply.

Well, the Master chief has less personality and emotion than a cement block. he is the least interesting character i have ever come across, that of itself does not make for a bad character, but the way the fanboys treat him as bad-ass in hyper-condensed really puts me of the character.
Well the books go into more detail as to who exactly John is and what his motives are, but I see where you're coming from. If you go solely by the games then there's not much you can glean from him.

Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy gets my vote. It's like they took everything that was annoying about Anakin from the prequels and cranked it up to eleven. You can tell just by LOOKING at him that he's a whiny *****:

Now if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge to strangle something.
ill agree on your whole post there good sir, MC has quite a few motives and is emotional enough about his crew, but he is able to stick with logic and strategy over it at all costs, unless its cortana..then he wrecks a whole flood ship to get her back.

Rosh = annoying son of a *****, why oh why did i ever save you and bring you back to the light...

to get on your last statement, i wasn't pointing that at you for that, i just meant in general, i actually assume most gamers are NOT that stereotype although stereotypes are and always will be there i suppose. while i'm not tall (5'9") i am definitely lean and highly sarcastic myself.

and fair enough, i actually agree with you on noble 6 and i can appreciate what you went into further there, so fair enough on that.

although random thing i would point out; my rock climbing teacher from last fall was alot like nathan drake (he rocked a beard and wasn't as muscular but he was VERY similar in alot of ways, he even was a medical officer over in afghan for 4 years before coming back to teach rock climbing/etc, so he definitely knew what he was doing in the field)

and he was probably the teacher i've had the most fun with besides my calc III teacher in college thus far, while that's not the biggest feat ever, my point is just saying an average joe can relate to him in some ways. (ironically now that I think about it i may like nathan drake because of my rock climbing teacher, who knows.)

Well, I'm generally all peace and love, as I rarely express my anger towards something or anyone, but I'll make an exception in this one.

First and foremost, Tingle. He was quite a good gag in Majora's Mask, but making him an unnecessary important character in Wind Waker to actually progress through the game... I was not amused.

Tidus and Wakka from FFX. Tidus, well, is a whinny ***** with daddy issues and Wakka, I just hated his voice.

Samus in Other M. Beating a dead horse here.

Cole in Gears of War. I. Hate. That. Guy.

Ashley. I didn't hesitated to get her killed in the first Mass Effect.

And that's pretty much all I can think of right now.
