Characters you hate that everyone loves

For me it's Winnie the Pooh. He is just obnoxious for me. Rabbit is a character who is obsessed getting everything neat and tidy. He doesn't hate Pooh, he just wants him out of his house, which is very normal for me. So what does Pooh do? He forces himself into his house, wants 'a teeny smackeral of honey', even though Rabbit says there is none. When honey is eventually found, Pooh translates that 'smackeral' to 'a container full of' and just goes ahead and gobbles up all the honey. And then he constantly has that huge 'pwetty pwease' smile. And after that he's STILL hungry.

Maybe I'm reading way to much into this but Winnie the Pooh is a character I could never connect to. There are some characters you're 'supposed' to like, according to the Imdb forums, but I'm very interested what your opinion is, Escapist?

I agree with vv85 on Batman, as Yahtze said he is the least interesting character in the franchise.

Also as a big WWE fan, I don't like any of HBK, Austin, Flair or Bryan and to a lesser extent Jericho which to the majority of the IWC is heresy.

Well I wouldn't say I hated him, but I do dislike how he's worshiped as awesome by seemingly everyone. He was nothing more than an overblown windbag and I couldn't stand him. Simon was a billion times better as a character as he actually developed over the course of the series. Kamina is just a bland gar character with nothing else to his personality and I don't get why people think he's all that awesome. There are a billion other characters just like him in anime and manga, and quite a few do it way better than he ever did.

I always hated Merrill from DA2, mostly because I have a big issue with making deals with soul eating demons. Bioware tried to pull it's normal bull about nice people using bad powers for good, but for some reason when it comes to blood magic I refuse to buy it. Probably because of all the soul devouring demons.

Winnie the Pooh is a bit of an idiot, isn't he? And yet, he's the Hundred Achre Woods chairman of sorts because he happens to be most liked by their creator god. Why isn't he in a home of sorts for severely mentally challenged bears?

Batman is a good second. Rather than hiring a good psychiatrist with all of his money, he prefers to sort his issues out by dressing up like a bat at night to beat up Gotham City's underclasses. Couldn't he open some sort of Wayne Enterprises social aid programme, or a bat-soupkitchen?

Are you familiar with Joe Kelly's run in Deadpool?
It was where he originally became his own character, and those first storyarcs are how I liked Deadpool; far more complex and interesting character than he has become since.

Lets see...

Firefly: Malcom Reynolds
Just about every character from Naruto, because crap anime
Just about every character from Bleach, because crap anime
Ned Stark and Rob Stark from Game of Thrones

That's all that comes to mind for now. Most of dislike here comes from the smug sense of moral/honorable superiority these characters tend to have. Most people like that in real life tend to be twats, so not quite sure why so many people like them.

Ezio from ACII. Altair was a much better character.
And because he was such a amazingly well-developed character, Ubisoft gave us THREE games with this douchebag.

Same here.
It's weird I loved Goku when he was a kid but then they changed him into a total idiot with the whole I have to fight honorably crap.

Any anime and Game of Thrones. James Vega and Ashley.
Where's all the love for Ashley and Vega? I see far more hate for them than even tolerance.

Anyways, I'd have to go with Tywin Lannister. Well, not so much "love", but I see a lot of people pointing out the nice things he does to show that he's not that bad of a guy, but with what he did to Tyrion, and how he continues to treat Tyrion, I have nothing but contempt for him.

Kratos. I can't fucking stand Kratos from the God of War series.

Kratos is an idealized mad man who kills anyone he comes across if they happen to have something he wants. Or even if they don't. Sometimes they'll be willing to fucking GIVE him an item he needs if he'll help them out, and he'll still just kill them anyway. They try to paint this picture that he is a fallen hero who only became a monster after becoming the Ghost of Sparta, but he was a terrible person when he was serving Ares and he was a war mongering asshole even before that.

In God of War III, the world is slowly being destroyed by his actions and he doesn't seem to care. All that matters to him is his revenge for something that happened specifically to him. The first game is okay because I can at least buy into his back story about how Ares tricked him into killing his family in the hopes that without that attachment, he would become a more hardened warrior, but in the second game, he's just out for revenge against Zeus. Anyone that won't help him gets killed by him.

I guess I hate him most of all because so many people try to convince me that he's a tragic hero and that he does try to save people, but he only really tries to save people if they happen to have tits. If you ask me, Kratos brought all of the suffering he has endured upon himself.

I don't want all of my characters in video games to be shining examples of what it means to be a hero, but Kratos is just so contradictory that I can feel my left eye start to twitch whenever people try to convince me he isn't an asshole.

Goku from DBZ- He's just such a bad dad and is pretty unreliable as the savior of the planet. I would trust Vegeta with something like that, since he actually seems to take the whole world-saving thing seriously.

Brian Kinney from 'Queer as Folk' (US version)- This one baffles me because because everyone I've talked to seems to adore him. He's the embodiment of everything gay men supposedly aspire to be but didn't make his personality very likeable til later in the series. I just didn't see the appeal and I'm not exactly a shinning example of monogamy or marriage material.

Many others, but I don't have time right now.

To be continued-

Han Solo.

Arrogant, cheesy, misogynistic, big headed. Just an all around jerk, I don't understand the love for the 'bad boy' persona.

Indiana Jones for the same reasons, although Indy was a little more tolerable. Much less piratey and much more scholarly.

I have to agree, Merril from DA2. She just annoyed the hell out of me, I hate it when girls act cute and stupid. Grow some fucking balls, girls.

And in Game of Thrones: Arya. There, I admit it. To me she doesn't have a personality of her own, you can see how George just pushes her along the path he's decided for her instead of letting the character develop naturally.

Iron Man, especially in the latest movies. I don't hate him but I strongly dislike a lot about him.
Commander Sheppard, again dislike and not really hate, because I think people in-universe give his/her talents way too much credit.

Oh, yes, and Liara T'Soni, she is the only one I really despise. But I'm not sure if everybody loves her.
