He does die at the end of Halo 3. Doesn't he?
No, if you watch to the end of the credits he gets cryogenically frozen by Cortana, left to drift space in his ship-half, until he is presumably found and revived at some time in the future. The humans think he dies though.

Donald & Goofy in KH2.
Mainly due to the fact that if they did then
Rikku and Kairi
would of replaced them and they are awesome.

I mean Alister. I wish he had kicked the bucket.
1) What is your beef with Alistair?
2) You clearly weren't looking very hard, because you CAN get him killed.

OT: Every single character in "Air Gear". Seriously. There are no likable characters in that series at all. Oh, there was one that I liked, but she got MIND SWAPPED WITH BARACK OBAMA! *facepalm* I wish I was kidding.
Yes, i know you can.....
Have him deliver the final blow insted of you so he dies.

But i wish he had died in my game. I made the pact with morrigan so i didnt even have the choice :/
You can get him killed even before that.
If you recruit Loghain at the Landsmeet, Alistair will quit and Anora will decide to have him executed rather than let him exist as a rogue threat to the throne. You can convince her to let him go, wherein he'll become a random drunkard, but the point is that you can get him killed even with the Dark Ritual.

I think Warfield should have died at the end of Starcraft II. Giving Raynor the position of General maybe?
Could you perhaps at least warn of spoilers if not use the tags? I mean, really?

I've been playing through the campaign on a friends computer and am only eight missions in and this is a real kick int he shins to be honest.

OP should really put a spoiler warning in the title or first post I think.
Oh sorry about that then. So were you expecting him to die or something?

Think about this for a second, if that hadn't happened then would the game be as memorable as it was. Sure everyone loved that character and it was surprising to see that happen to him, but do you think a happy ending would have improved the game?

Think of how it reinforced the tone of the game in terms of the overall message that all actions have consequences, the depressing tone of both the end of an old generation and the beginning of a new one that is built on the sins of the past, and the whole futility of fighting against fate (John was fighting so Jack wouldn't have to be like him, only for it to turn out that way regardless). It also reinforced characters, be it everyone on the Marston Farm, or the betrayer who it was pretty clear was a Knight Templar, intolerant of any injustice he could find, as well as looking again at how the old "wild" characters were actually the more reasonable and moral ones, while the newer "civilized" group was completely in the wrong.

If anything John's death was probably the best part about the game for these reasons, as well as the fact that you always remember your favorite characters that die.

As for me, I've got a list of them:

The end boss of Tales of Vesperia. He was exactly like Abyss's one, only much less sympathetic. His death could have been a great ending, but instead he gets a cheesy redemption and walks off camera.
Halo: Reach, Jun. I'm sorry but having him live, but only revealing it in the legendary commentary was a dick move Bungie. Especially since his fate is now out of your hands. It would have been better to have him die with his squad than live on in someone else's control.
Isaac from Dead Space. This is more of a mercy kill than anything else. I imagine he's now unable to fix anything in a normal civilian environment now without horrible flashbacks.
Sonic. We all know the reason why here.
Sylar from Heroes, if only because the writers didn't know what to do without him, so whenever he developed, it was almost immediately invalidated. Yes, he was my favorite character, but seriously... (also, quite a few people in that show needed to die, but somehow kept finding a way around it. Sad that when it finally looked like it was getting good, it was cancelled).
Metal Gear Sold 3: Those motherfucking sons of bitches who set the Boss up! Anyone whose played the game up to that point and heard the truth will want that cutscene where Naked Snake becomes Big Boss to involve him pulling out one of his weapons and emptying it just for hearing what they did.
Yeah I know. I don't honestly think that, but I just wish
I didn't have to play as his annoying ass son
. It makes perfect sense why he died and I wouldn't have it any other way. I just miss playing as him is all.

Ummm... I'd have to go with the squad from Gears of War. It's just annoying how a squad who would be killed on day 1 in reality is able to be heroes in these games. I mean, they don't follow orders, they don't use any kind of military tactics, they have no personal connection to the enemy other than they are bad guys we gotta kill them, and they aren't even "the best of the best".

1) They don't follow the orders that they know aren't going to work, and go with orders that have a slightly better chance of working.

2) Um, no personal connection to the enemy? How about the enemy randomly appeared out of the ground one day and started killing all the citizens, and then started sinking entire human cities for no said reason?

3) They aren't supposed to be 'the best of the best'. They're supposed to be 'The luckiest of the lucky s.o.bs'.

I'm not a big G.O.W fan, and I don't even care for the game itself, but I think the characters deserve a little more recognition than that.

As for who I think should die...I wish Rochelle would've died in L4D2. Her dialogue is boring and makes her sound like a flirty ***** (Sweetie, honey, 'There wasn't a Med Kit here before, nope'), she's overall boring, she contributes nothing to the story line, and she's just...well, pointless. Valve should've made up another character. :p

I also think that Superman, Batman, and Spiderman should've died at some point.

Less of whether I expected him to die or not, I hadn't worked out if he was an integral part of the plot or not. Now I find both that he is and that the result of his involvement is at least an engaging end piece too.

It's less about the result than what happens in between.

Oh well, life goes on and I'll just do what I can to forget this little tidbit. ;)
