I got enough money for either a cheap wal-mart pc, or a 360. I'm wondering if $400 dollar computers can play games on minimum, or if I should buy a 360. This has nothing to do with exclusives.

Link to the one I was looking at: http://www.walmart.com/Compaq-Desktop-Bundle-PC-CQ2103WM/ip/11049966

another one:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883108207

you will not be able to play anything newer than at best 4 years old games on the comp. its graphics card is probably horrible. get the 360 you won't have any issues getting the games to run
ps link would be nice

Yeah... Get the 360.

Almost EVERYTHING you get from Wal-Mart is extremely low-quality, the computers are no exception. If you're going to be gaming on a PC, then you're going to need more than $400.

Find someone who knows computer parts (an expert) and you can go on Newegg.com and build a decent quality gaming desktop for about $400.

A gaming one? Around $600-$800, for the minimum. You can get good parts that will run most games off of Newegg for around $1000-$1500, though.

You act like that's a bad thing...
Half-Life 1 and it's expansions are probably some of the greatest shooters I've ever played. There are many games you could get that would be good on a PC like that. But, I'd say Xbox 360 if your expecting to play games like BioShock and such.
This is true. If you do get the PC, here's a few games you should get.
KOTOR 1 and 2.
Morrowind
Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War
Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne
Half Life 1 and all of it's expansions
Age of Empires 1-2
Some of the Early Command and Conquer games
Fable (You might not be able to run this)

This pc sux, lol. it uses the Atom processor, which is the one they use in Netbooks; its designed to use little electricity and wont be very powerful at all. I am sure it probably uses integrated graphics too, as it doesn't specify a graphics chip, meaning that your choice of games will b limited to ageing pc games

EDIT:

it does specify the graphics chip, the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which is ooooold. You wont be able to play much on this.

This pc is designed for Internet use and word processing only. Stay away.

Get the xbox.
This PC has some very meh stuff straight from the Mehland.
160gb hard drive - Windows 7 will take 16gb from the start once you'll upgrade.
...or IF you'll upgrade, because with that 1gb of ram I suggest you stay with XP.
Processor is unknown, graphic card is unknown - I guess both are shit.

Now - if you need a gaming platform, get the xbox. If you need a cheap desktop PC for various stuff, BUT NOT PLAYING MODERN GAMES(older titles should work well), get the PC.

I like that it says this "Processor - Clock Speed: Education / Home Office Desktop "...
Fail if I may say so myself...

Yeah, that stood out for me too.

"We're going to need to read a PDF and type a letter. Set processor to Education Speed!"

The other one seemed equally crap, especially from the 1 review's pros and cons - it has a nice big monitor and is simple, but it's slow.

That's an idiot's computer, it's like a computing equivalent of a children's book with extra large print for the slow learners.

true it is not a bad thing but my assumption is that you are looking to play new games not old ones I mean I still play Star Craft hl 1 Age of empires 2 C&C Red alert 2 and other older games but I still like a new games too like COD 4, Crysis (HP Laptop FTW!), and other newer games.

neither of these will run newer games. biggest problems 1 gig of ram and a graphics accelerator not a real GPU.

Yeah, but if he has the chance to get a PC that he could upgrade over time, and he's isolated to playing only old games, he might start to like new things, instead of all the FPS games we see these days. Note, I like FPS games too, but they are just fucking stupid at times.
some mother boards are just so bad that it doesn't matter what other components you put in. the walmart ones are all ways poor quality and even if you could upgrade other components the mobo is likely to burn out with the higher quality components

Well just look at the minimum requirements for the games you want and the pc's your looking at. You can always upgrade the ram, hard drive, and add a video card to it later on. Thats what I did with my emachine.

Definitely 360, the pc is crap. he integrated graphics card will run some games (more than you'd think, but let's face it. A 360 is made for gaming.
