Last night I kept getting killed by a guy who had a desert Eagle pistol that was firing at in insanely high rate, it was more like an SMG.

Before you say he had quick fingers, no. This was inhumanly fast.

Was this a valid weapon or was this person cheating? Surely it would take an extremely skilled person to hack a 360 game?

Also it takes someone with very miniscule genitals to cheat online.

I then got a message from a guy offering to get me all the achievements for the game, which I (either honorably or stupidly) turned down.

Is cheating really widespread and does anyone here do it?

Edit: changed thread title after a few posts as it seemed like more of a general discussion

I know that there are mods that people put onto their controllers so that they can hit the button faster, he may have had one of those, it is very unlikely that he actually hacked the game to get it to fire quickly

EDIT - Ninja'd :(

It's called a turbo controller.
You can get them third party, and they offer a 'turbo' option for the buttons.
It isn't a glitch.
It's a douche-bag who can't play properly.

Yeah that guy was cheating, it's highly likely he was using a turbo pad which allows them to fire a pistol the same rate as an SMG.
Unfortunately I know someone who is so pathetic that they made their own and use it online.

Edit- Triple ninja'd damn

The guy was using a modded pad.

http://www.repair-modchip-modchips-ps2-playstation-xbox-wii-brisbane.com/images/mod-chips/XBOX.jpg

looks the same as an xbox 360 remote but it has a button called turbo or something once pressed all you have to do is press another button such as trigger and a way it goes.

I've used one of theses things on the PS2 for metal gear solid to complete torture on elite mode but I haven't used one xbox 360 and proberly will never because I don't like cheating

Concerning the last part of your post:
Never accept anyone's offer to get you all the achievements for a game. They would need your account information. Like email and password.

AHa... good to know I wasn't imagining things then.

What a stupid unfulfilling way to play.

Yes, there are no depths people won't sink to just to be the WINNAR in online matches. As if a victory has any value when it's achieved by means of cheats, glitches or hacks..

ah yes the modded controler, those basterds

when you have so many people online generaly you will get a bunch of assholes willing to cheat, why? i have no clue it destroys the purpose of the game, i've yet to see cheaters on ps3 online, there are glitchers of course but thats it really.

i remember the PC has lose of these cheating idiots, Cod 2 was full of them, the most annoying was their ability to see through walls, i find its an achievement and an epic victory when you kill a cheater because to me its like an a massive sign showing how bad these cheaters are.

cheating in single player i have no problem with

turbo controllers use AC current which alternates 50 times a second.
the game would limit the max speed slower then this

Wow. Too lame. If I ever see someone on XBL doing that I'm giving him negative feedback for sure. (not like that does anything at all there, but it's the thought that counts.)

Has any one here played Chromehounds on the 360? I've had people ask if they could use "glitchhounds" in games I host. It's difficult to understand why people would want their ranking to not be representative of their skill. Well, no, that's a lie, it's likley because they've got none or fear not having any and so have never given it a proper try. What's worse is when glitching becomes so common you almost have to do it to remain competitive, as I heard was an issue in GoW2.

My friend has one of those controllers and I don't consider it cheating.

It levels the playing field for him since a lot of people do that. Of course it imbalances semi-auto weaponry significantly, but he has to do it in order to have a chance to compete.

Sorta like how some Live players are required to have a keyboard and mouse to join certain clans.

And yes, it was a turbo controller, and yes, they are bullshit, but it's better to have everyone have one than some lucky people having one.

it isn't acctually a hack because it is an inherent flaw designed inside each of these games which could easily be corrected if the weapon limitations where designed correctly. they are exploiting this flaw... but because it is an exploit, all players have access to it.

all controllers are capable of this 'rapid fire' capability and one can do it by not even really modding a controller, but learning how to do it...

the flaw is semi-automatic weapons are not limited in their rate of fire.

unlike automatic weapons which says specifically that the weapon has a RoF of 600 or 900, and no matter how frequently you pull the trigger you'll never exceed these limitations, pistols and other semi autos in game lack a RoF limitation. it will fire of how ever fast you can pull the trigger. if you can pull the trigger at 2000 times per minute, the weapon will fire at 2000 rounds per minute... and this isn't acctually humanly impossible, because you are pressing the trigger at 33 times a second. well with in the limitations of both the controller and your body if using certian methods, and quiet a few people can achieve that for a few seconds... example Metal Gear Solid torture scene, keeping snake at full health...

they are not cheating.
they are not hacking.
they are using a mechanic which exists in game to their advantage.

and weither or not this is exploiting is arguable really.
if it was an unintended flaw, then they should of corrected it long ago. this problem still exists in games like Counter Strike, Call of Duty 4, half life 2, and damn near every other FPS with a pea shooter pistol.
