... To answer my question, that is.
So, I was playing Call of Duty 4 about... *checks watch* 2 seconds ago. The map "Overgrown" came up. I was excited, because I normally pwn on that map. Anyway, we started playing, and I had to cross the map. I jumped into the massive ditch that divides the playing field, and walked, knowing I was virtually safe. That was up until the dirt wall started shooting at me. No joke. So I watch the killcam, and find out that it was just some cheater that glitched his way into the geometry of the map so that he was completely invisible. I've never seen anyone stoop to such a level for a freaking video game. The funniest part is that he eventually stopped. Outside the geometry, he freaking sucked. Walked right by me without realizing that I was an enemy (shanked). So, if any cheaters exist on the Escapist, I just wanted to ask you, "Why? Why must you suck so hard?" Or maybe, more straightforwardly, why do you hack your way into success in something that won't get you ahead in life?
EDIT: Just sent one of the kids a message congratulating him. I wonder if he's mature enough to pick up on my sarcasm.

Because cheaters don't really play to win, they just like to piss people off. Kind of like how rape isn't really about screwing a hot person, but more about domination. I guess they do it for self-gratification.

Some actually do it for the spectacle. It's fun to them to fly over their enemies shooting doom.

Well, just leave the game and join another, sending an angry message just gratifies them with the satisfaction of making others angry.

Eh, it was more like "Congratulations on the failure, Timmy! Have a cookie!" More of a mocking kind of tone than anything. But I did join another game.

I wonder if your mature enough to realized you just gave him what he wants.
Ok, that's a little harsh but it is true. Tip: Don't feed the trolls AND their cheating cousins.

Meh, it was more for the fun of it.

I imagine it's to ruin everyone else's fun. I hate cheaters. They're freaking everywhere, and it always sours my mood when I shoot a guy with 15 clips and he kills me.

Ah, still, better to send nothing at all. For example, I'm sure you've mocked sombody in your lifetime, most people have, think if the person said nothing and went on his merry way? I'm sure you'd get no satisfaction from it. Anyways, just note that if it ever happens again, it's worked for me at least. ^_^

It's not so much to win as it is just to watch others get annoyed at being killed all the time.

i never really considered glitching through the map as cheating. its something that everyone can do and is in the map. if he had a turbo controller or mods or something then its cheating.
im from the halo 2 era so glitches and superjumps were no big deals. mods and standbying was
The Halo 2 era...? I don't think Halo 2 had its own era, bro. The Halo Era, maybe, but, and I don't know if you've noticed this, We're still in that one. Can't really talk about an era that's gone by when it's still happening, yo.

OT: Glitching isn't really cheating, though playing by those means is still cheap and useless, especially if you can't carry your skills through without.

I used to play Combat Arms, until I realized that EVERYONE was hacking. I'm not normally one of those people to shout Haxxorz! at anyone who kills me, but once you start seeing people standing in mid air shooting people in the head, or floating around underneath the map, I can't stand it. What these people don't realize (or care about) is that they ruin the game for everybody. Once there are too many hackers/cheaters, everyone just assumes that anyone displaying skill at the game must also be cheating. I just solved my problem by playing Wolfteam instead. There you get called laggers, not hackers, lol.

Play Quake Live if you want a free enjoyable game.

OT: I know what spot you're talking about, and hopefully things like this will be fixed in MW2

In Team Fortress 2 I was watching a pyro compression blasting 500 times persecond (aka very fast) and it would light you on fire from probably 50% further than the flame thrower reached.

I don't cheat, ever. I don't even cheat in GTA/Saints Row (drives my friends nuts) so I don't get the appeal, it's just cheating, there's no actual skill to it you're just cheating!

The only thing I could think is as this guy ran around is "BAN ME BAN ME BAN ME BAN ME" because he was playing on a VAC secured server. I have no idea what happened but I hope.

Hey, bro, The Halo 2 era is the bit in between Halo:CE n' Halo 3, yo.

I'm quite fortunate not to come into contact with many cheaters, and if I do they get banned quite quickly.
I like servers with decent admin.

Perfect example. I couldn't have thought of a better one.

Ok now, sometimes cheaters just do it cause it's fun?

In TF2, on the 360 version, me and my friend were a perfect team when it game to getting where we weren't supposed to be. (We skywalked, walked under the floor, sat in the walls.) We generally set up sentries and watched people explode; we laughed a good deal at this. We got some messages of people raging, and we got some people who would simply go insane. It was hilarious.

The thing is, we did this because it was funny. No one as forcing the opposing team to stay; they stayed on their own. We actually encountered(though rarely) some incredible teams who actually out thought and beat our invulnerable(glitched) defense. We congratulated them.

We didn't suck when we played the game for real. We were actually quite good. I was an amazing Engineer(I didn't turtle. I killed many more people with my shot gun than my sentry), and my friend was an amazing Sniper(All headshots, and if he bodyshotted, he hated himself for it.)

Basically, not all people who cheat suck, and not all do it just for self-gratification. We did it cause it was hilarious. It was also fun to find other ways to break the game, but I digress...

Well, seeing as all that's really changed in the series is the weapons and occasionally what's going on...I fail to really see how they each qualify as their own era.

I remember during the darkest days of COD: WaW, it was pretty much "glitch or die" since just about every map had a glitch... or 9.

Aside from that, I never cheat in any way.
