Hey, bro, The Halo 2 era is the bit in between Halo:CE n' Halo 3, yo.

I'm quite fortunate not to come into contact with many cheaters, and if I do they get banned quite quickly.
I like servers with decent admin.
Well, seeing as all that's really changed in the series is the weapons and occasionally what's going on...I fail to really see how they each qualify as their own era.
An era is just a period of time, not anything spectacular, and Halo 2 era for me means going through all the crap about dx10/Vista and Microsoft throwing about loads of bollocks about why a an operating system can't run a game.

Are people nuts? Glitching IS cheating. Why? Because in the world of game we considering anything that gives you an unfair advantage that wasn't intentionally put in the game, CHEATING.

In Halo 2, getting out of maps and superbouncing wasn't cool while in a player matches. It could give you an unfair advantage over players who didn't know how to do it. It would get you called a noob and is considered cheating.

In Gears of War 1, there's a glitch called crab walking. If you're crabwalking, you have the ability to crouch run and shoot without ever stopping or standing up. More experienced players can generally shutdown crab walkers, but newer players will have difficulty doing so.

In CoD4. If you glitch inside of a building that you can't normally get into, if gives you an unfair advantage and practically makes you invisble/invincable, than you're cheat.

I even admit that I glitch sometimes, but it's usually just to my friends when I KNOW that they are aware of what I am doing and how to deal with the situation.
In a game like CoD4, where I don't know any glitches at all and have no idea how to kill the glitcher in question, then yeah I would be pretty pissed.

... To answer my question, that is.
So, I was playing Call of Duty 4 about... *checks watch* 2 seconds ago. The map "Overgrown" came up. I was excited, because I normally pwn on that map. Anyway, we started playing, and I had to cross the map. I jumped into the massive ditch that divides the playing field, and walked, knowing I was virtually safe. That was up until the dirt wall started shooting at me. No joke. So I watch the killcam, and find out that it was just some cheater that glitched his way into the geometry of the map so that he was completely invisible. I've never seen anyone stoop to such a level for a freaking video game. The funniest part is that he eventually stopped. Outside the geometry, he freaking sucked. Walked right by me without realizing that I was an enemy (shanked). So, if any cheaters exist on the Escapist, I just wanted to ask you, "Why? Why must you suck so hard?" Or maybe, more straightforwardly, why do you hack your way into success in something that won't get you ahead in life?
EDIT: Just sent one of the kids a message congratulating him. I wonder if he's mature enough to pick up on my sarcasm.
I'm amazed they haven't patched that yet.

That glitch has been around for ages, and there's always some little turd using it.

You sum it up better than I could. It's a psychological issue that most people might not admit to having.

I never cheat on a multi-player game. Although my tactics could probably be called underhanded and sneaky. If we ever do play to break the game it is usually because we have been playing for 5 hours straight and we are dumb foundedly bored of killing eachother. Until one of us lets loose that grenade that blows everyone else up and it starts all over again.

However I have been known to stand in the only doorway leading out of a room to block a bunch of screaming 10 year olds and then walk away to make a sammich.

cheating on a console is a minor annoyance, just ignore them but its in pc gaming when it comes to a good game on a good server with a good group of people and some moron using aimbot and wallhacks who has a ratio like 150/2 and no admins doing anything about it, thats when your day is ruined.

Had a guy on cod4 like that and i asked him why he does it and he said "i do it with games i dont like so i can piss everyone off like you who likes the game".

What a loser, he plays a game he hates just in order to annoy people who doen't like it, i mean why doesn't he just play a game he likes?

I do know what an era is, thanks, and I'm not exactly sold that you fully grasp the meaning of era, but I'll translate your era to period, so that it fits better with the whole Microsoft/dx10 thing.

Maybe if people made games better, there wouldnt be a way to cheat! Now i dont cheat online or anything like that because we all agree that its lame and stuff, but i love to find glitches and stuff, kinda adds replay value to the game. And honestly, you think playing on xbox live is fair in its own self? if your not the host of a room, your already at a disadvantage like your being cheated so.

GLitching seems alright to me so long as everyone is in on it, but as for people who outright cheat in a normal game? Report and move on.

Ok now, sometimes cheaters just do it cause it's fun?

In TF2, on the 360 version, me and my friend were a perfect team when it game to getting where we weren't supposed to be. (We skywalked, walked under the floor, sat in the walls.) We generally set up sentries and watched people explode; we laughed a good deal at this. We got some messages of people raging, and we got some people who would simply go insane. It was hilarious.

The thing is, we did this because it was funny. No one as forcing the opposing team to stay; they stayed on their own. We actually encountered(though rarely) some incredible teams who actually out thought and beat our invulnerable(glitched) defense. We congratulated them.

We didn't suck when we played the game for real. We were actually quite good. I was an amazing Engineer(I didn't turtle. I killed many more people with my shot gun than my sentry), and my friend was an amazing Sniper(All headshots, and if he bodyshotted, he hated himself for it.)

Basically, not all people who cheat suck, and not all do it just for self-gratification. We did it cause it was hilarious. It was also fun to find other ways to break the game, but I digress...
Ahh, so you're one of the people who thinks that's funny.

It's not. Maybe for you. But how about instead of playing the game like that you play it the way its meant to be played. People don't join a game to want to face cheaters.

"Just quit and play another one." What if everyone said that? It's ok for you to do it because it's just fun? I have a crappy PC so I can't run TF2 on it so the 360 version is the only way for me to play it and so how about NOT being one of the reasons that I hate TF2 sometimes?

Did you finish reading my post? Me and my friend would often have normal matches in which I would play the ultimate defense, and he would... snipe people's heads off constantly. We played normally a lot, but we glitched when we were bored or wanted to unwind. Now, 2 years after moving on to the PC version, I suck at the 360 version, but I'll always have my memories, along with my epic 64 killing spree with 2 sentries in the enemy base.

I've come upon times that I had to face people who also glitched, and I had to outglitch them without my buddy around. I did it, and prevailed. There was an entire nest of sentries comprising the entire enemy team + Heavy. I built up a teleporter, sent spies in, and destroyed their nest. It was an amazing feeling to outglitch them.

We haven't done anything in the 360 version of TF2 in at least a year, so we're probably NOT the reason you hate it. I know the reason WE hated it was because of the immense ammount of sticky-whore and the fact that there was no way to counter them (Way overpowered on 360 compared to PC... PC has a bit more skill in it).

But again, it was quite fun to break the game. We literally spent hours in a private game -just me and him- searching for areas we could medic-jump up to or walls we could slip under/through. It was great, but I digress again...

It pisses me off on Cod:waw on caslt ewhen people chill up on the roofs. Okay yes, i use the rails and statues etc for cover and flanking points but at least it is simple to get up there. I know its a glitch that anyone can do, but i still feel that its unfair on everyone else, ho are stuck on the ground!

Cheating "only sometimes" is still cheating. Anyways it's good that you don't do it in actual public online matches anymore and if you haven't done it recently then no, I probably have not run into you. Definetly agree on the super-sticky spam games are still around and still are near impossible to break out of. And a super glitch/counter-glitch game sounds like it would be fun. So I guess I overreacted a bit and that was my bad but I guess my point was is that people who glitch for the amusment of pissing off everyone else sicken me and that was you at one point but I assume not anymore.

At first this sounds like a good point, but if you look at it, what you're really saying is- people who cheat at games have the same mental problems as rapists.

No. Just no

Yea, I can understand where you're coming from. I think we truly just did it for the mass sentry kills and people who would show that they obviously had no clue what was going on. I'm not saying we weren't cheating, we were, but it was fun. Again, we were actually pretty good and we didn't actually need glitches to win, but it was a nice way to round off the day.

The last major glitch type thing I remember entering the 360 version was the Moonbounce, though. (works kind of like a virus, you enter a game with 'moonbounce' and you can more or less fly across the map. After that, as long as you don't turn off your console or join someone else's game, if you start a game it'll have moonbounce too and 'infect' other people) I was actually in the very first game that introduced that. It was quite different, and though game simply could not be serious with that, they could be a lot of fun.

To quote a cheater: "Your tears of anger are delicious!"
I have to admit, that was pretty funny.

The motivating factor is essentially the same in both cases: to pleasure ones self at the expense of another. I don't know if you can call that a "mental problem", though.
