Check Out Batman v Superman's First Teaser Trailer

The first trailer for Batman vs. Superman features darkness, angst, and some kind of robot-Batman helmet.

The first trailer for Zack Snyder's upcoming superhero brawler: Batman v Superman [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/batman%20v%20superman?os=batman+v+superman] was leaked over the weekend, and since you can't put that genie back in its bottle, Warner Bros. has decided to just go ahead and release it officially. You can check out all the darkness and angst of these two misunderstood (anti)heroes to the right.

As we already know [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/139084-Batman-vs-Superman-Dawn-of-Justice-Plot-Details], the film is a direct sequel to 2014's Man of Steel, and will deal with mankind's reaction to Superman basically going apeshit and destroying half a city to stop General Zod.

The trailer starts with sound bytes and clips of people both worshiping and condemning the man of steel, and leads up to a reveal of Ben Affleck's Batman, who seems to be taking it upon himself to put an end to Superman's mischief. Batman then dons this kind of weird bat-helmet that gives him a robot voice and goes to meet Supes for some kind of pow-wow. "Tell me, do you bleed?" he asks, before answering his own question, "You will".

It's very gritty and dark but if you're into that kind of thing it looks like it will be a fun movie. I personally wasn't a big fan of Man of Steel, but i'm really interested to see how Affleck handles his role as Bruce Wayne, as I think he's a terrific actor.

Well, as little expectations I have of this movie I still cant help feeling a little giddy when watching two titans like Batman and Superman in the movies...

Is that like the Injustice storyline here? Cause I'm getting that vibe. Superman has soldiers kneeling before him, what sounds like him going power hungry, and him abusing his powers. While Batman sounds like the voice of reason trying to stop him. It would explain Aquaman and Wonder Woman joining the fray, trying to put down the power-hungry Superman.

I'll admit, before I watched this trailer I had no interest in the film. Now I kinda want to see it... not as much as Avengers 2, but I still kind of want to.

They're actually acknowledging that supes f-ed up battling where he did, instead of luring/throwing Zod to a safer battlefield. That is unexpected if it's true, not watched the trailer yet.

My sentiments exactly. As for the trailer itself, I like the setup they are doing for the post controversial Man of steel ending. And the teaser was well done, till the "Tell me, do you bleed?" line which was pretty dumb. That said, I was fooled by the Man of Steel trailers, so I will hold onto my reservations.

As a person who actually enjoyed Man of Steel, I'm still dissappointed Superman didn't get his own sequel before being paired up with Batman. I liked the trailer though, with the world's perception of Superman being central to the plot. I'm pretty sure Clark isn't very comfortable with having a militant faction wearing his symbol. Or the worshipping in general.

Ooooooh, I am looking forward to this!

I hope superman destroys a whole heap of stuff again, that would be hilarious. Or, better yet, Luthor destroys a whole heap of stuff and audiences then decide to blame superman. That was funny the first time too.

1. No one said fighting Zod was easy. Fighting Zod was stupid given that it threw everything set up in the beginning with Clark's powers and abilities overwhelimng him to the point of huddling in the corner of a broom closet to try and shut everything out.

2. The fight only left Metropolis so that they could go right back to Metropolis, something you'd need to actually be aiming for from outer space. That's a bullshit technicality that doesn't address the actual problem when it just goes directly back to Metropolis in the very next scene to continue the fight.

3. Who's saying the hostage family died? That's just stupid.

4. He COULD have covered Zod's eyes. He would have been in pain, but his suffering isn't enough for the plot convenient hostage family's James Bondian peril.

5. Superman never smiles? The promo trailer had Clark and Lois in the interrogation room. He was smiling with her in there.

6. Decimated would be a better word to describe Metropolis. Doesn't change the fact that significant damage was done and could have been avoided had Superman just thrown his own space pod into the Metropolis world engine, putting Lois and the military pilots out of danger altogether.

7. The last one is just hyperbolic belaboring a point bullshit. Superman doesn't focus on mitigating people or property destruction in the Metropolis or the Smallville battles.

OT: The main problem with Man of Steel was inconsistency in logic, too much speachifying and jesus symbolism, and flat characters. If BvS can fix those problems, I'll be on board. Given the writing team and Zack Snyder's direction...I'm taking everything I see from these trailers with a huge grain of salt.

Urgh, great, now I have to see that because they're going along one of the few interesting ways to deal with Superman i.e. when the public's view of him isn't complete and mindless adoration. Which is great for someone who really liked Luthor but then Batman shows up in his even dumber outfit and being generally boring and my hopes plummet again. Get rid of Batman, have it be a solid showdown between Supes and ol' Lex without the latter devolving into conventional villainy and let's get back to making films instead of franchises.

1. The movie already explained that Zod possessed a great deal of discipline and focus, which he turned inwards to take a moment to overcome the sensory overload he was experiencing to the point where he could function properly without his helmet. He was also not a child like Clark was.

2. Why is it a problem? They were moving at such speeds that a straight drop down from where they were would logically be a hop and skip right back down to Metropolis for them. They weren't in deep space, they'd barely left the atmosphere. And Clark was getting punched in the face during reentry.

4. Then he would have lost his grip on Zod, the fight would continue, Zod could continue beating him silly, and more deaths would occur. Superman was lucky he got his hold on Zod at all, Zod was never going to stop. Even with the evacuation, of course there would be stragglers in the city. Just because they're unlucky doesn't mean it doesn't make sense.

6. The gravity field would have made throwing the pod extremely difficult, and Superman needed to get to the other side of the planet to stop the world engine before an approach could be made. They needed to get that pod as close to the Black Zero as possible to give the kryptonians no chance to react to the world engine's destruction, while they were all gathered in one place.

7. Superman was not in a position to control those fights at all, and was in the first fight of his entire life against a living being. Trained soldiers, in fact. His way of mitigating the damage was to try and neutralize the threat, which was very obviously not easy. Any attempts he did make to move away in Smallville were shut down by Faora and Nam-Ek. In Metropolis, he wasn't even beating Zod when he had the flight advantage, what chance would he have to leave an enraged super soldier to his own devices?

Superman will probably just misunderstood and slightly pissed off ... unless they give Batman Kryptonite or some alien power source, both of which are unlikely, the only reason he'd live after throwing a punch at Superman would be because Superman didn't feel like hurting him after all. A metal suit ain't going to do jack to MoS superspeed skyscraper destroying Superman.

*Sigh* I really did think we were getting past this whole BWAAAAH gimmick.

Well hey, looks a hell of a lot more colorful than Man of Steel or TDKR.

Oh man, Jeremy Irons as Alfred. While I wish they kept Michael Caine I feel Jeremy will be well suited to the role.

Ironic how it looks more colourful when it's mostly black and white imagery.

The idea of Superman being both worshiped and feared by the population is a strong plot with the eternal vigilante to put him down.

Question, because nobody talks about this anymore and I feel like I missed something a while back:

This is a batman entirely removed from Nolan's trilogy, right? Like, we're getting a reboot of the character, complete with his own possibly altered backstory? Or is Affleck stepping into Bale's shoes and acting as Bruce Wayne coming out of his post-Bane retirement in response to Superman's arrival?

I had assumed the former for a while, but that quick shot of the batmobile looked an awful lot like the one featured in Batman Begins, and the aesthetic of batman's scenes overall seems similar to the trilogy beyond just featuring the same character.

So is Superman now Hitler or Batman some sort of Osama Bin Laden super terrorist?
Hard to tell. I guess it doesn't look as bad as it could...
Still I think Marvels "have fun" approach to their comic book movies is more enjoyable.

The trailer gave the chills honestly. Everything about the film looks excellent, I truly can't wait to see it. I felt the same way before Man Of Steel was released and I wasn't dissatisfied in the least bit. Henry Cavill is such an excellent Superman, the aura of his character just bleeds through so well. I am also a bit surprised with how well Ben Affleck nailed Batman (at least with what we have seen so far).

I think the plot is an appropriate one and very necessary. The question of Superman's devotion to humanity has been addressed countless times in the comics, and it's a very realistic and believable plot. I am a bit more interested in the aftermath of the Superman v Batman confrontation, however. I wonder if they will come together to face Lex, or what if Batman is working for him instead? That would be a great watch either way.

So many of my favorites in one film, the anticipation is killing me!

Of course only Batman would have the spine to try and go toe to toe with a guy whose race was shown to level buildings with no issue.

Not thrilled. Not even MoS was that dark and angsty, and I'm not a fan of dark and angsty to begin with. Also I think that line about "Do you bleed?" is kinda dumb.

My sentiments exactly, I would love to see a humanist Lex Luthor less concerned with being a campy villain, and more concerned with pushing humanity forward. That could certainly put him at odds with someone like superman.

Alternatively, I want to see Batman as the underdog, trying to outsmart him. I want to see him get clever. Lure superman into a building he lined with led to obscure his vision. Find clever ways to use kryptonite to give him an advantage. Relying more on sneaking then on muscle. Essentially, I don't want him to fight fair. Giving Batman an iron man suit is lazy, and doesn't fit with his style of combat at all. Superman should be able to tear through that like butter. Why would Batman fight Superman on his own terms, when Superman could clearly win any punching contest you put him in.

I thought it was a good line. The central theme of this trailer, and most likely of the film itself, is that Superman is arguably a false god. Testing "gods" to see if they bleed is a popular and effective theme throughout the history of film and literature.

(Unfortunately, the two examples that readily come to mind for me are 300 and Iron Man 2, which aren't exactly the pinnacles of cinema, but hopefully you get my drift.)
