So what?
Don't quite get the point.
Someone enlighten me.

As in, tell me that this is a huge issue about the fact that the IRL ladies look nothing like those in the game.

# played croquet and was not too bad.. thinkin about smashing geese at the park with a mallet made it a lil more enjoyable. they are soo mean9:53 PM Aug 16th from web
to be fair, croquet is rather boring and smashing the geese would make it more fun cause they are mean. i will say i get some amusement trying to see people be nice to geese, especially the Canadian Geese

Googling Victoria Johnson is a complete non-starter.
Try "Victorria Johnson" (with two rs, as in "Morrigan"). Seems Maxim spelled the name wrong.

They're both models that BioWare seems to have picked up at ModelMayhem:

And BioWare's profile there: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1023425

Rule 32 in action.
For someone with a Guido Fawkes mask as an avatar, getting that wrong must be quite embarassing for you.
I've failed you all. In my defence I was cooking a roast Chicken at the time, and didn't want grease on my leatherbound copy of "Rules of teh Internets" 2nd Edition (with a foreward by Chuck Norris).

Hmmm, well I see nothing wrong with hot babes, and neither do most sane women. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say that despite popular opinion women are FAR more perverted than guys are.

*THAT* said, I myself have sort of felt that the women in Dragon Age (the game) aren't as hot as they should be. But I guess how hot they are is a matter of opinion. They sort of have the "Heroin Chic" thing going which is pretty popular nowadays, even if I don't find it all that attractive personally.

As far as the models being used for the characters being revealed, that's no big deal given the way games roll nowadays. I mean we've been here with Tera Patrick and Saint's Row 2 (albeit she was supposedly a producer), not to mention Eliza Dushku's role in the same game. Then with Assasin's creed they had the actress (name eludes me) who plays Claire in "Heroes" digitized which was a big deal.

As far as dudes go, I simply think they get less press coverage, but are definatly promoted the same way. Patrick Stewart appearing as "The Emperor" in Olivion comes to mind (the model even looks like a much older version of him), and I believe "The Rock" was digitized for "Spy Hunter" and that was heavily promoted at the time.

It should be noted that showing off the real girls in connection to a game like this is NOT nessicarly just to get the fanboys drooling. The girls themselves being models WANT to be shown off to get their names out there, so they will hopefully be recruited for more work (drool worthy or otherwise). As was pointed out the girls are relatively unknown, one doesn't even come up on a search... well because of this game people are going to learn who they are. If Dragon Age: Origins succeeds, it will be a good career move in their vocation of choice.

The big thing that gets me though is that both of the potential female love interests I've seen, strike me as being sneaky, manipulative types. That can be attractive, but it WOULD be nice if they had some differant personality types to romance.

Plus honestly, going with the atmosphere of the game, if Morrigan doesn't turn out to be a thinly disguised version of Morgan Lefay and any affair with her goes horribly wrong setting up the sequel, I will be fairly surprised.

Re: Update.

Nice revision to the text there, Maxim. And here I was at risk of continuing to think y'all were going for intentionally lowbrow. Seems I was wrong. "Incidentally Lowbrow" is more like it. Stay classy!

I think even THAT was probably a marketing strategy. Pander to the meatheads first, and the nerds second. That's the order of importance, after all.

EA has basically hijacked the entire process ever since they took BioWare over when Dragon Age was still in mid-poduction and through marketing made it into something that it's not. I'm still drooling over this game, but turning it via marketing into a metalhead sword-and-boobs bloodfest instead of a better version of "The Witcher" isn't something I appreciate. These Maxim shots only exacerbate it.

The real girl is alright looking in the "Megan Fox"-lite sense. The CG girl is looks creepy as hell in a "Fallout 3" kind of way.

Don't get me wrong I can appriciate a good looking CG girl as much as the next guy, but this is just ugly. BioWare is better than this, the girls from KotoR, Jade Empire, and maybe Mass Effect were much better looking.

And this is why I don't bother with Maxim. It puts itself out to be a men's magazine, and yet has very little clue of what men want, beyond women. They throw crap articles that barely have anything to do with sports or such, and expect the side and under boob to sell it. If I want boobs, I will get a Playboy and actually have articles that I can find interesting to read, even on gaming. Just because they reedited that one article so it doesn't sound like only a small demographic of gamers read their fluff, it doesn't mean they wont stick their foot in their mouth again. And just because a girl has a sexy voice (Im guessing thats why either of these got hired to be voice actresses), doesn't mean she has a smoking hot body that's ripe for exploitation. Those girls need to stay behind the mic, and far from a camera.

What the hell is wrong with Bioware and their stupid advertising? They seem to try to market the game to the wrong people.
That's because the "right" people probably already know what the game is and will buy it regardless of the ad campaigns.
Yes, but the other people will expect a completely different game when they see the trailers and such. Plus, I'm not so sure what I should think of this game, they're really confusing me.
They want you to know there are girls in the game. Albeit ones you would never want to go out on a date with...but still girls.
I think I am really starting to get what games should go for to get the same depth as stories and movies. People in most games are still so 2 dimensional. Which Maxim just confirmed for us. Thank you Maxim.

This isnt new, they did the same thing with the Nymph from the original Neverwinter game. Wasn't a real person, just a drawing, but atill enough to draw attention to it.

If your too late for Booth Babes at places like E3, then go with publications like Maxim is probably the next best thing.

I never thought of it that way. Thank you for giving me some hope that this is just misleading advertising on EA's part.

As for this Maxim stunt, well it's a good way to get some publicity, but perhaps with the wrong crowd? Alison Carrol was at least the pretty face of a relatively accessible game so her trouser tightening presence would at least least invite the possibility of those leering after her looking into the game, but an RPG? Not so sure it will have a positive impact.

I just wish Bioware had a bit more self respect. They claim that their game's exploration of love and sexuality is meaningful and not pornographic, but consent to this in the marketing?

Who wants to bet there will be another ludicrously overblown fiasco calling Dragon Age a porno game ala Mass Effect?

No dice there, cowboy.

AT any rate, I have a sneaking suspicion that Bioware is just using the whole blood, gore, and tits angle as bait for the kind of people who thought Transformers 2 had a decent plot; lying in wait to spring a well written and thoughtful RPG on them.

Either that or I'm a hopelessly deluded fanboy.
