Cheese Toasties: Simple, but delicious. With some cheese, and some bread, and some brute force, you have something entirely delicious.

Fuck yeah.

So, what bread do you use? What cheese do you prefer? Just how much do you love them?

All glory to the toastie!

Is a toastie a grilled cheese sandwich?
I like buttermilk bread, and a mixture of chedderjack and provolone cheese. I tend to fry the bread first in butter with garlic salt, and then put the cheese on one side and flip the other piece of bread on top, and then wait for the cheese to melt and then OM NOM NOM.

Toasties. Oh god, it's been so long. The last toastie machine we had started blowing our downstairs fuses, and I have been tostie-less ever since.

Also, the ONLY answer for which cheese you should use for melty purposes is motherfucking Cheddar. And white bread, it's not like you can make a greasy melted cheese sandwich that much healthier by using slightly healthier bread anyway.

I've got a toastie machine from Aldi, it's fucking shit. It doesn't toast the bread it just melts the cheese so much that it seeps of the sides :(. However when I've got a working one I like to put bits of bacon in them along with Cathedral City cheese, I used Wensleydale once I was pleasantly surprised.

Cheese toasties?

Oh, you mean a grilled cheese sandwich! :p

Delicious stuff and really simple. I prefer homemade bread, butter, and some provolone cheese. Mmm....

I like to dip mine into tomato soup.

Also white bread, butter and cheddar cheese.

Also, now I'm hungry.

White bread, butter, and cheddar, the classic. Grilled cheese was one of my favorite snacks as a kid. That oozy cheesy goodness....mmm....now I kind of want one...

Also, not-so-interesting note, I had a grilled cheese maker that made little triangle grilled cheese sandwiches just like in the picture. It was kind of neat because it would kind of make like a pocket snack cause the edges would kind of seal up. And it was always cooked perfectly with just the right amount of browning. I wonder if it still works...

White bread, and then Jarlsberg for the filling. Perhaps some ham in there as well.

Glorious.

A Food thread? without a bizarre mythical framework concocted by Daystar Clarion to open? What is this madness?

I like the classic cheddar and pickle. But I have found that Beans on Cheese-on-Toast is ridiculously delicious.

White bread, plenty of butter, tasty chesse and baked beans! Best food in the world. The beans hurt like hell though if they spill out and hit your hand.

I love Toasted Cheese Sandwiches and demand that they are called by their proper title! Anyway white bread and buttered on the outside creates a whole new tier of tastyness. Tastes better when done over a campfire.

This is a grilled cheese sandwich:

This is a toastie:

The wonderful thing about cheese toasties is that you have to butter the outside of the bread so it doesn't burn against the hot, shaped metal of the toastie maker which gives it that sealed edge. It will burn otherwise, but when you do it right, it gives the toastie that great golden look and a different yet satisfying crunch.
You can also shove beans or ham or whatever in there and not have to worry about it flowing over the edge, though it is scalding hot when you bite into it so only the brave, daring or stupid eat straight from the maker without cooling a little first.
