Ironically, the kid dies not long afterward.

Waste of a good moon block.

No your not. Now my own question. Am I the only one who doesn't think this is "epic" and finds his death in that manner utterly retarded and semi-insulting? (and no I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but I still feel the same when I learned this, years ago.)

I remember reading about that a long while ago, and I've never been able to read any of the earliest Yuuzhan Vong invasion books because I can't bear to stumble across it. THIS MIGHTY WARRIOR SHALL BE REMEMBERED!

However, everything from just before the fall of Coruscant on is one of the areas I specialize in. Early Clone Wars, post Clone Wars, the movie era, immediately after the movie era, up to just prior to the Yuuzhan Vong appearance are the other areas I know particularly well.

I refuse to go much father than that because I heard (MEGA MEGA SPOILERS) Jacen becomes a sith lord, Mara Jade dies, and all sorts of other crud that renders every happy ending before that point moot.

Just a moon? I've seen sewer rats with more health than that.

I've know about this ever since I started reading the Drizzt Do'Urden books. I was talking about R.A. Salvatore in the library when some guy stomped up to me and yelled about how Salvatore was a hack because he saw the need to kill Chewie in his Star Wars novel. He was kicked out. It was funny.

As far as canon goes, I consider anything that doesn't contradict the movies canon until proven otherwise. Its easiest that way.

If it wasn't in the films, it didn't happen. Chewy is alive, Bobba Fett is dead, anything else the books tried to change is non cannon. I'll watch the Star Wars movies, even enjoy them, but anything outside of the films I usually don't enjoy. I don't play the games, read the books, watch the TV series, or read the comics, because NONE OF IT EVER HAPPENED.

Boba Fett is alive and you know it.
Aside from that obvious joke (please don't flame me, I burn easily) you've never played KOTOR? I pity you.

How about this:
We only consider the cool parts of the expanded universe true.
Chewie's alive, Bobaa Fett's alive, Jar Jar got killed by a moon instead.
Also, I've never played KOTOR, I've hear it's good, but I'm still not a huge fan of games based off of films, no matter how good they are.

Is this canon?
It's on the same canonical level as KOTOR, to give some perspective.
So, according to Lucas, not canon?
It depends on what you believe. Some fans believe that anything that wasn't in the movies isn't canon, while others believe that the Expanded Universe is.
Lucas Licensing created some kind of canon system.

Scroll down to The Holocron.

In a December 6, 2006 post, Chee suggests the existence of a second continuity composed only of the films:
"The only relevant official continuities are the current versions of the films alone, and the combined current version of the films along with whatever else we've got in the Holocron. You're never going to know what George's view of the universe beyond the films at any given time because it is constantly evolving."
On a post made on the same day, Chee stated that:
"Anything not in the current version of the films is irrelevant to Film only continuity."
In other words, if it ain't in the movies, you can bet that god (in this case, Lucas) doesn't consider it cannon. The rest of us, however can do so as we wish.
Which is odd, because anyone who wants to publish a Star Wars book has to run the story past Lucas before it goes to printing.

I knew. My dad reads Star Wars books with an almost religious passion, whenever her finishes a book he gives me a complete plot summary with interesting highlights, and can recite the entire "history" almost from memory.

I remember when he first read about that, Chewie was and still is my dad's favorite Star Wars character, so he was practically crying when he found out (but still thought that it was a heroic way to die.)

Personally, the only time I'd cry about Star Wars was if R2-D2 was destroyed.

I don't mean to nit-pick, but KOTOR isn't based on a movie. Its based on a universe established by a movie. It takes place a thousand or two years before the movies do (supposedly) and as such has no attachment to the movies other than:
There are Jedi, they are good. There are Sith, they are evil. There are droids, they suck (except that one, you know the one).

For those of you who don't know, IGN recently had a countdown of their top 100 Star Wars characters. Now, I know a lot of us don't like IGN, myself included, but I wanted to check it out anyways.

Chewbaca placed number 9, and in his character synopsis one of the IGN editors wrote, and I quote, "In the end, Chewie was able to make that ultimate sacrifice, and Han was left crushed. Chewie was a great friend to all, and his absence left a huge void in Han's life. Heck, it left a huge void in our lives, and we'll never forget the day we learned Chewbacca died."

WHAT!? Chewbacca died?
What the hell? When did this happen? So I looked it up on Wookipidia, and HE DID.

In one of the extended Star Wars Universe novels, HE DIES.

And not only does he die, he dies in a FUCKING EPIC way! He sacrifices himself to save Han Solo's son, Anakin Solo, from a giant fucking moon crashing into a planet!

Thats right, Chewbaca died because he got hit by a moon.
In the end, he got a giant monument on Kashyyyk, and Han stopped talking to his son because he blamed him for Chewie's death.

Oh, Chewbacca, I will miss you.

Now, this is officially a Chewbacca funeral thread! So, post your pictures, your flowers, your goodbyes and your other funeral-related things. Mourn him!

It is kind of epic that it took a moon and the destruction of a planet to kill him.
You didn't know that?

I mean, wow...just wow.
I mean, yeah it's in the expanded universe and all but that's still no reason for you to NOT know.

Hell, everyone died.
