I assume the processors are Israeli design though, right? And I'm guessing a lot of the rest of it has 'Made in Japan' stamped on it.

I wonder if they can run Crysis 2 on this thing...

+42 points for the Hitchhiker's reference!

But yeah, that is insane. I don't mind that China did it either, go humans! Still waiting for quantum computing though. Then they could fit that power into a desktop.

My PC does like, 55 gigaflops woo!

That's one crazy ass computer. Although I have to wonder why they only put 1 GPU per mobo? Those Xeons are 2 CPUs per mobo, hence why it's double the number as the GPU count. So... yeah, probably could have saved a lot of time, power, and money by sticking two GPUs per mobo. But anyway, other than that... WOW!

Yep. That's cool.

So what are they going to do with it? That's all that really matters here. A super fast computer is completely pointless if all they do is start up Windows and launch a game of Solitaire.

Ok, it's one thing for the US to be beaten by Japan or maybe Korea in this department, but CHINA!? SERIOUSLY!? Fuck that, we need to make a new megacomputer

2.507 petaflops
That is a hilarious unit
If it's any consolation, the processors they are using are American/Israeli and the GPUs are Japanese. I don't they have any tech of their own in that computer. Yet again, China leaches off of the rest of the world and decrees themselves to be the greatest.
I bet the products were "Made in China" however, LOL! :p
Actually no. All Intel chips are either made in the US or Europe, and nVidia parts are all produced by TSMC or, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The have fabs in Taiwan, the US, Singapore, and design office in Shanghai. So, TSMC has a tangential connection with China, but they don't produce any products there.

I think it's good that the US has someone to measure up against again. Countries are at their best when competing in one form or another against someone else. It happenned with the US during the cold war, but since the fall of the Soviet Union the country has stagnated somewhat. Now that they have a new rival on the world scene they might want to charge forward again.

I should point out that the previous record holder is the fastest documented computer. Services such as the NSA have got something of a reputation for having computers that are always one step beyond current generation devices.

I doubt it can run any game since games aren't programmed with 7200 essentialy graphics card in mind^^

Oh so finally a computer that can run crysis on low settings

[HEADING=1]OHMGEE I R FUNNY LOLZ[/HEADING]

In all seriousness this is very impressive but what on earth are you going to use that kind of power for?

okay, it's cool and all...

but what is the point in it :p what do they use it for which is more important than a $2.7 million annual electricity bill???

Also, I have never heard of Petaflops? How big is that number?

Couldn't something that powerful basically run The Matrix? Or a small virtual reality at least?

Also, and it's absolutely vital that I do this:
