yes I think Christmas should return to what it was before the first Roman(nationality) Christian(religion) king forced Christianity into the Christmas celebration which wear about rewarding the good and punishing the bad and had nothing to do with any religion so that all people may take part in the celebration.megaraccoon said:snip
People still think Christmas has something to do with Christ?megaraccoon said:and as for agnostics or athiests who want christmas without the faith here is my view GO EAT ACID and stop being so up tight when someone says merry christmas take it for what it is a friendly hello and wishing you well noone is trying too convert you! so yea could you just tell me your thoughts?
Quoted for truth. Nobody is trying to make Christmas more secular than it already is. The whole "Happy Holidays" thing is actually pretty old, and simply an acknowledgment that, you know, there are quite a few holidays in the time frame; There's at least one major holiday per month from October through February, with as many of them being Christian in nature as secular or belonging to another religion. The only call for a more secular Christmas would be if a government entity decides to violate the Establishment Clause by holding some sort of Christmas celebration. They can celebrate Christmas without violating the clause, but to do so, they either have to do an all-encompassing thing with all of the religious holidays from the same period, or simply focus on the secular aspect. There's a reason we have a separation between Church and State.thylasos said:The War on Christmas?
NO. DOESN'T EXIST. Witness Christianity's cultural domination of the USA and much of Europe, and accept that some people view it as a cultural, rather than relgious holiday, with little effect on any particularly religious celebrations.
The parts of Christmas which may in rare cases have a toned-down Christian content are the parts of Christmas which arose from German and Dutch folk traditions, arising from earlier pagan beliefs. Are people marching into your church and telling you to keep it down? No. It's a religious holiday for you, and feel free to partake of that in whatever way you feel is fitting.
For a significant proportion of the population of the western world it's a cultural holiday, with its roots in Christianity, but not ultimately tied down to it.
A time of peace and goodwill to all men, a sentiment which extends beyond the people who attend the religious service or sing carols, but not necessarily everyone.
I'm just a little tired of people claiming they're being discriminated against by not having religio-cultural domination enforced by the state.
Enjoy the Christmas/Hannukah/Non-Denominational Opportunity to Get Roaring Drunk in Front of Granny/etc... season, and a happy new Gregorian calendar year.
It'd be great if you could add some punctuation, because it's a bit hard to read otherwise.megaraccoon said:first yes christians speciffically believe christmas has something to do with christ not that misguided really as it is thier religious holiday like michealmas or st lucy's day ect also the point about me saying go eat acid is not to all athiests that's not what i said i only mean those athieists that constantly ***** and moan about any religious ceremony like christmas as for those who dont i hold no ill will toward at all and youre right wishing certain individuals a slow painfull death via acid consumption isn't very christian but im roman catholic and we aren't know for our peacfull nature see the crusades, ira, nazi, current white supremecy groups ect not saying im affileated with any just saying we roman catholics are not afriad to use force
