"On July 2, 2008, Square Enix announced that they were officially planning to bring Chrono Trigger to the Nintendo DS handheld platform. The updated rerelease is set to take advantage of the Nintendo DS hardware with a new dual-screen presentation, support for the touch screen, and a wireless play mode. The game will also add a brand new dungeon, though details of it are unknown." http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/chrono-trigger-returns-the-timeless,454846.shtml

Awesome. I'd been wondering why it hadn't appeared on the Virtual Console already. Can't wait.

I am both happy and pissed off at the same time. I am so greatful this game is getting a remake as I am a HUGE Chrono Trigger fan. Why am I pissed? NO PSP VERSION!! COME ON NOW. It's great that it will be on the ds at least but god damn I want my PSP version. :(

Meh. Still no Chrono Break.

I mean, this game was released, what, 12-13 years ago? (Crud...it's been that long? Time moves too fast).

Ir better be a remake, and not just yet another port with a few tweaks and additions here and there. I'd love to hear a remastered version of "World Revolution"

Doubtful. Yaz works for Monolith Soft now, and he's in the middle of working another game right now. Doubt he will contribute to the soundtrack. (Though I am annoyed he didn't sneak in any CT/XG/XS stuff in SSBB)

Aww... that's a shame, I thought for sure after leaving he'd stay freelance.

I'm wondering if the anime cutscenes are going to be ported. Could the DS handle it?

Looking at some of the cutscenes from the upcoming Final Fantasy IV, I doubt it should be a huge problem.

Meh, I already own this game twice.

Now WHY don't they get off their asses and make a goddamn sequel already! Enough with the remakes, I want my Chrono Break already!

Indeed, as much as I love Final Fantasy, Chrono series has all the potential to become the next big RPG franchise. it could easily grow to be as expansive as the FF series. Cmon SE, take a break from final fantasy and give us more Chrono!!

The problem that SE has at the moment is that they've alienated all of the people who made CT what it was in the first place (few of them were involved in Chrono Cross, look how that turned out). Here are their main problems...

They alienated Masato Kato, the guy who wrote most of the overall story.

Yuuji Horri, one of the head designers, has a contract stating that he only works on Dragon Quest Games.

Hironobu Sakaguchi will probably never work for Square again.

They could probably get Yasunori Mitsuda (Soundtrack guy) again, but he's just the composer and while important, would not make the game great by himself.

The best they could do is assemble a new "Dream Team" to work on one, which I guess is the problem.

Well if they are re-doing Chrono Trigger, maybe the sales figures for it will be the decider on whether they do Chrono Cross and any more sequels.
