Eh, I already have it for the SNES and PS1 as well as the ROM for my emulator on the PC.

I am both happy and pissed off at the same time. I am so greatful this game is getting a remake as I am a HUGE Chrono Trigger fan. Why am I pissed? NO PSP VERSION!! COME ON NOW. It's great that it will be on the ds at least but god damn I want my PSP version. :(
Btw, you can just put an emulator on your PSP. I have no idea how that works though, since I don't own a PSP.

I want a sequel! Or at the very least a Chrono Cross remake.

Maybe the stylus comes to play, but...I can't pull any shred of enthusiasm out of my loins. I'm sorry.

Oh I wholeheartedly know that. I am still sketchy on the whole custom firmware biz, but still, I would love to still have a remake for the PSP as well, ya know...just because.

Wow didn't know there were people with a non hacked PSP.

I am a loyal PSP owner with an ever growing library of PSP games that I love and play in moderation. I have always wanted custom firmware but I would rather not do it myself only the fuck it up. Would be nice to play my favorite classics on it but my PSP games suffice. I still want my Chrono Trigger for PSP damit.

This is great news, I would've liked an actual remake (as in redone graphics, updated soundtrack quality, voice? etc etc) but an enhanced port is fine with me. Is this the first time Chrono Trigger may get released 'officially' in PAL? I mean, we got kinda screwed on that one.

The problem that SE has at the moment is that they've alienated all of the people who made CT what it was in the first place (few of them were involved in Chrono Cross, look how that turned out). Here are their main problems...

They alienated Masato Kato, the guy who wrote most of the overall story.

Yuuji Horri, one of the head designers, has a contract stating that he only works on Dragon Quest Games.

Hironobu Sakaguchi will probably never work for Square again.

They could probably get Yasunori Mitsuda (Soundtrack guy) again, but he's just the composer and while important, would not make the game great by himself.

The best they could do is assemble a new "Dream Team" to work on one, which I guess is the problem.

Well, here's the thing: The majority of the original team (sans Horii-san...though I must correct: His production company is under exclusive contract to work for Square Enix, which does not explicitly mean DQ games only) is working for either Monolith Soft (majority of the development team, Yaz to a certain extent) or Mistwalker (Sakaguchi and a few others). Kato-san, though he has been alienated by the company, still worked for SE up until very recently as a freelancer. Long story short, a joint MS/MW effort with Masato Kato could do the trick. Further, given that MS released Xenosaga, the series of which Square's Xenogears was intended to be based on, through Namco, it's not that far of a stretch to release the game under a different company.

The only problem, however, is where these two devs stand. Mistwalker, for all intents and purposes, is controlled by Microsoft (though they have and will continue to release work for the DS) (M$ is their bankroll). Monolith Soft, on the other hand, is 83% owned by Nintendo (with 13% owned by Namco). In order for the situation to work out, a middle ground would have to be struck. Likelihood being, a joint effort would be for the DS. The other two problems are acquiring the trademark rights (at least in Japan), and the whether it would even be worth the effort, given that Chrono Cross was released almost ten years ago. A lot of us may be hardcore fans of the game, but even with this re-release, it will not likely motivate either MS or MW to work on that game on any level.

I feel what's likely to happen, if it does develop, is take a Mother 3 approach with Kato/Sakaguchi being the equivalent to Itoi. But even there, there was actual development of that game for the N64 before it collapsed and resurfaced on the GBA 12 years after Mother 2/Earthbound (8 years after the initial cancellation of Mother 3/Earthbound 64). Here, it's been speculation, rumors, and trademark rights. Granted, Kato, Sakaguchi, and Yaz have expressed interest, but has anyone else?

I'm not seeing why anyone would be that excited about this, since it's not like the DS suffers from a drought of RPGs. Valkyrie Profile 3 is coming, so is Dragon Quest IX, Bioware's Sonic RPG seems interesting and I've yet to get the recently released FFTA2. Then there's the new FFCC, the FFIV remake...and yeah, you get the point.

Yes, it was a great game over 10 years ago and still a good game now, but am I going to pay for something I've bought twice already? Hell no. Unless it's really a remake rather than a port, which is something I'm doubtful of. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Well I'm excited about it. Final Fantasy games have never really interested me all that much, but I loved Chrono Trigger.
