I love how some leaders run thier clans like some kind of multi million dollar making business, anywho, chances are, you've all been in clans, at least one, so any bad / good clan experiences, funny ones welcome too.

:D

I was in a HL2:DM clan and out of no where the leader decided to get rid of the server president (me), the head admin, and the tech manager. Long story short, the server is terrible now and the admins are abusive as f***.

Well, for the last four school holidays I created and ran Sauerbraten clans. EMP, ZT, TBI, and DTT... now it's the fifth holiday in a row, and I'm not gonna make one. Otherwise there won't be enough time for my webcomic.

However, I did just join a Sauerbraten clan today...

i assume "clan" is synonymous with "guild"? if so, i was actually a ranking officer in a casual raiding guild in WoW for several years, until we disbanded (and most all of us quit WoW and mmos in general). it was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding. lots of good memories. i was, for lack of a better description, our Morale Officer.

memories... we did damn good for a casual raiding guild. we were in the top 20-30 guilds on our server for a long time, and pretty much the highest non-hardcore guild. still, it got to us eventually and burned us out.

The first day I put Modern Warfare 2 in my 360, I was recruited into a clan. I loved it. We were a tight knit group. Like a Band of Brothers. We kicked ass too. I may rejoin them later on down the line. But now, I'm taking a break from shooters.

I've been part of two clans in my life and both have been the best gaming experiences of my life. Great community in both, great games we devoted our time to.

Closest thing for me is being part of a Supergroup on City of Heroes. I was quite on-and-off with them and never had time to participate in most of the events, but I was always participating in the usual chat banter and helping as much as I could. I was pretty proud to be a part of them as they were the #1 Supergroup on my server (Which was the most populated EU server) and #1 Villaingroup on the same server. They were always capped with the amount of members they had.

I was in a great guild in WoW, we broke up with a guild we were already in at around level 30 and made our own. We were in that guild until most of them broke off into raiding and I left.

It was very fun, and if you were ever being ganked at least one of them offered to help. Now I've went back to WoW some are still playing but are on different servers, I still talk to some of them on MSN occasionally though:)

I was in a Killing Floor clan (Even though I never played it much, my friend recruited me and another friend).. But the leader was ALWAYS telling me that I should loosen up and relax and HAVE FUN WHEN HE'S GOING ALL SERIOUS BUSINESS OVER THE CLAN AND THE FORUM (With one member, and it's him.)

Otherwise, no, and I haven't really felt like joining any..

Yeah, there was something similar in what I was part of in Diablo 2, we called it Outcast, though the top one at the time was Xodia. They were top class and our aim at all times was to top them.

I was in a clan with a few mates from real life and online for CoD4: MW for PC. All we played was Hardcore S&D.

It was pretty shit really. I mean it was pretty intense sometimes and very tactical, but more often than not I died early and spent the rest of the game spectating because you dont respawn on HC S&D. Not fun, I bought the game to play it myself as much as I could, not spend most of my time watchin' other people play it...

The banter was good, but I find clans take the game too seriously for my tastes, thus spoiling the experience for me. Not that I'm not guilty of that now and again though, I do rage quite a lot at games, specifically Blops.

Me and my friends have a "no clan" rule everytime one of us says "hey guys we should make a clan!" He gets no mercy and his punishment is absolute

I was the leader of a clan during the days of Modern Warfare 2, amongst personal friends and a few guys who I knew pretty well from playing with them for a while. I've always had a sort of bad impression of clans in general. I was always a big fan of OpTic Gaming, but as time goes on, I'm slowly realizing that I'm a fan of a few of their individual players, not the clan as a whole. I know that all clans are started with the intentions of being a tight knit team who play well together, but there are always some events that will occur that sour the whole idea for me. Two of the biggest examples are A) Internal strife between players. This will inevitably happen in a clan that is not made up of personal friends. Over time people will take sides and effectively divide the clan, which will cause it to disband. and B) If they get big they will eventually become a bureaucracy, which is all fine and dandy if your running a government or a company, but this is a team for a video game for god sakes, it's not necessary. So basically my opinions on clans are they need to be between personal friends and, generally speaking, getting too big a following and too many sponsorships, will in the end, be the downfall of the clan.
