I was wondering how you'd chime in on the nightmarishly garish ads in question. I was actually a little saddened that there was a gratuitous link to the Critical Miss discussing how stuck up their own ass the people in the ads seem. Though, from the Siri image pages I've seen, the service is very repeatable, without much differentiation between things, and not overly capable of learning.
You don't link to your own work in a news post, it just isn't done. That and I have to pretend to be neutral, and that comic, even though a joke, was the opposite of neutral.
And here I was hoping for a bold defiance of convention. But, pretend neutrality is pretty important, I suppose, so I'll just go find it myself.

I can see where they're coming from. In the UK ad they ask things like "what's my day like" to which the iphone responds "not bad, only 2 meetings today", or "do I need an umbrella" to which the response is "the weather should be clear today". I suspect these are the abstract questions and I doubt asking an iphone "how's my day looking?" will draw that response.

On one hand, not automatically calling bullshit on an advertisement makes this guy look like an idiot, but on the other hand I can't help but secretly hope he wins and maybe makes advertisements a little more informative and a little less stupid.

When it comes to tech though ads can be very misleading. People who don't follow technology may see an ad and think that we're actually capable of such things then go out and buy based on that. As I said I've all along thought no way when the ads portray people asking abstract questions and getting the answer they expect, but others may not.

Also as a side note, I've never used siri but I'm guessing my accent wont work. I'm from Lancashire in the UK and no automated system can ever understand the Lancastrian accent.

Honestly? I know a handful of people who own the iPhone 4s and none of them use Siri whatsoever. They feel it's mostly just a gimmicky bit of software that (since we live in Ireland) has no real use since most of it's other functions are unavailable to people not currently in the United States.

Though they still couldn't answer my question when I asked them why didn't they just get a 3g, which suddenly became much cheaper. Capitalism at it's finest folks.

Are you sure you were being all that neutral?

Mr. Fazio was also presumably very upset to learn that the people depicted in these adverts are not computers, despite their claims to the contrary, they're merely actors pretending to be computers. For shame, Apple.
Kinda sounds like you're calling the guy an idiot there.

All the fanboys and critics should be saving their pennies for Apple stock instead of yapping. Go buy it. Now.

I don't know why hes bothering to waste his time. They haven't enforced a false advertising case in years. All advertisers do is lie. I'd be more shocked if they decided to change things up and go with the truth.

We can tell the fanboys are getting smarter because they aren't trying to cover up how terrible it is to everyone else this time.

I work for Sprint Tech Support, and the iPhone has been nothing but headaches for us. The Blackberry phones, the Android phones, jeez, even the Palm phones and Windows phone work pretty good most of the time. The iPhones, though; we HATE those damn things. They're a b*tch to activate, the voice service is mostly half-decent, but troubleshooting for data is unfortunately very simple.

First we jump-start the data, and then update the phone. If that doesn't work, we have to MASTER RESET the phone! Then, we have to do the activation dance again. With most of our phones, the activation is pretty simple. We put in a command code, send the jump-starts, and BOOM, phone works. With the iPhone, it's Wi-Fi first, iTunes second, and then Network last. If all three fail, we have to send them to the store.

The ONLY reason you should buy an iPhone with Sprint is because they have unlimited data, with no fine print. If you have an iPhone and AT&T, you spend most of the time using Wi-Fi, or you end you end up with a phone bill that buttf***s your wallet.

So, from a professional phone tech, if you're debating between an iPhone and an Android, get the Android. Steve Jobs is dead. It's time to stop pretending the man can do no wrong.

Shortly after we got the iPhone, this picture started circulating "the office".

EDIT: Reuploaded pic from other location. I was told some people can't see it.

As for this suit. I am kinda hoping it sticks. Not because I hate apple I just want them to stop advertising tech in a way that makes it seem like its all powerful and can do no wrong before it gets to that point.

As long there are people with more money than sense people will still buy Apple products.
This about sums up my thoughts. Apple "tech" is usually behind, hardware-wise, and resembles a pretty glossy white Nazi Germany software-wise. The fact that people line up for this crap astounds me. Although the "Apple Genius" thing amuses me greatly.

I'd say I'm sorry that he made a poor decision in his choice of phones, but it's really his own damned fault. Apple's been overstating what their shit can do with the "We might be able to do this later" or "This is a fact but only if you're a mouth breathing retard" in their advertisements for a long time. I find no sympathy for those that they pull in because they honestly believe that commercials are completely honest and the fine print doesn't exist.

I find it funny that back when Microsoft was the top dog Apple could apparently do no wrong yet now that Apple is the grand poobah, oh shit, they're the new Satan.

That's fanboys for you I guess.
Not really, my contempt for apple has remained consistent throughout my life and throughout it's ups and downs.
*clutches old Nokia and Windows PC*

Call me set to what I know but that one incident with an Apple Laptop (very early days) has skewed my view on what they consider 'good'. And the iOS has done nothing to change my view on it.

Apple Fanboys confuse me. HOW. How did you live with yourself. Now I can empathize somewhat but... why.

That Kohler "Force flush 5" thing works pretty well, almost pulled my intestines down with the rest! On the other hand, I can see where this guy is coming from, but a lawsuit may not have been the best thing to do.

Thank you! For finally giving me a professional opinion I can copy paste to my friends! It's the saddest thing ever to see them all falling over and over for the ads and the "prestige"... and it's the most hilarious thing ever to listen to them trying to justify it to me later...

I hate how so many people parade Steve Jobs as the Messiah to save the undertrodden from the tyranny of the greedy Bill Gates and his Windows Empire. He was just as profit oriented as anybody else... and with the rise of Google, Apple and even more and more Linux, Microsoft's market monopoly has seriously dwindled...

and seriously? the undertrodden buy themselves $2000 MacBook Pro's? really suffering in the society, I feel the pain...

From a proud Windows and Android user

That's fair enough, the only apple product I own is an iPod I received many a Christmas ago, I gladly accepted since it saved me a small fortune in AA batteries for my old MP3 player.

I can't say I feel strongly for either apple, microsoft or any other company. I just thought I'd point out a trend I had noticed, individuals such as yourself excluded from said trend of course.
