I'm very sorry. I was sure I'd answered it.
Well done Gardyna!
You did indeed get it.

i heard this one eons ago and i still love it.

While exploring the wild highlands of Ireland, Robert was captured by goblins. Grumpy, the chief of the goblins told him he was allowed one final statement on which would hinge how he would die. If the statement he made was false, he would be boiled in water. If the statement were true, he would be fried in oil. Sine Robert did not like either option, so he made a statement that forced the goblins to release him. What is the one statement he could make to save himself?

the answer is deceptively simple

A riddle similar to this one has already been done: the answer is "I will be boiled in water."

Here:

A diamond in the dark,
shadow is his veil.
I am pretty sure that is meant to be:
A diamond in the dark,
on a leash that never falters.
Shadow is his veil.

The irony being I cannot remember the answer!

I am gonna guess:
A fetus is the best I can come up with atm - I am guessing the leash bit doesn't mean a leash so much as what holds it and shadow is another way of describing something.

An assassin broke into the royal palace and killed the guards who tried to stop him. When turning a corner however he was successfully ambushed by 20 fully armed and trained knights, who surrounded him, effectively cutting of all forms of escape. The leader of the knights said to the assassin "Give me your daggers". However after a moment the leader smiled and said, "Or you are to be executed. But since you killed so many of our knights we will let you go if you can solve this riddle. You must say a statement. If the statement is true, we burn you on a stake. If the sentence is false, we stab you through the heart. If you do not say anything, you are thrown to the lions. If you say something we can't verify, you will be forced to drink a cup of hemlock and concentrated hydrochloric acid. If it is not a statement or if it is a paradox, we simply toss you into the nearby volcano." What is the only think the assassin can say and live?

Lol... yeah, that was the version I wrote a couple of months ago in another thread... I simplified and reposted it here because I don't think anybody ever guessed (or even bothered to answer) it before.

Nope... it's actually fairly literal (well, the final line anyway). And just ignore the old version with the bit about the leash; I took it out because it sounded stupid and wasn't really as important as the other two lines.

I have spent three hours mulling this over Which I both love and hate because its so rare for me to find good riddles. If it's fairly literal then my first guess is an unmined diamond in rock? Also you were right.

No.

Keep in mind that it isn't all literal, and it isn't all metaphorical.

Also, thanks. :)

The moon?

I can just about say that I thought through a lot of other choices to reach this answer, but I'm still pretty sure it's wrong in some way. Still, if in some weird way I'm correct, have someone else post a riddle... I can't make riddles...

DAMN! I was so sure it wasn't the moon I thought that was far far too obvious plus I couldn't quite stop thinking about the other line of the riddle "on a leash that never falters." :p But a good riddle all things considered.

In the mean time here is another riddle (Its a very crude one):
I am physically firm and ridged although mentally indifferent.
I come by many tones and textures.
I serve as both nursery, home and graveyard, yet I waste nothing and recycle what I can.
I am not alive.
What am I?
