Why would it be like marriage?, it's not like it's the last game you're ever going to own.

For me, it's gears of war, I know full well what I'm getting and it would suck terribly if it got pushed back just because some fans want to be teased.

I don't think somthing like a beta would be necassary for GOW2. I think everyone who knows about the game already knows what its like and whether they are going to buy it or not.
And if you are expecting some sort of huge change between the first and this one honestly you will be dissapointed.

That's a good point, and it definitely lends some validity to Cliffy's argument. In the case of a sequel, it's easier to skip the demo or beta in favour of focusing on the actual game, because most gamers will already know what they're in for. But for brand-new titles, it's a different matter entirely. It varies from game to game, and franchise to franchise; in the case of Gears 2, he's pretty much right on the money, but in an overall, industry-wide sense, he's going too far.

I gotta disagree with CliffyB on this (and yes, I'll also keep calling him that adolescent nickname as long as he keeps acting like an adolescent). A demo, done correctly, is a valuable marketing tool as well as a means to help your supposedly valued customers make an informed decision. If the game is as awesome as he seems to think he is, and if they have any competence in their programming a demo, a player trying the demo won't be able to wait to get their hands on the game. The only argument I can buy in his little statement is the time problem. It certainly must take time to put together a decent demo, but I'd deem that time well spent.

Not impressed, Cliffy, not impressed. Stick to making good games, and let somebody who can talk without looking like a 15 year old trying to impress the girls deal with the press.

There's nothing wrong with sleeping with a girl you just met, especially if you've seen her around a bit before, caught a glimpse, heard about her off your friends and are kinda into what you hear. If you go in there with the intention of keeping it going, hey, what's the harm?

Cliffy B's analogy is a poor one. For a game like Gears of War 2, we've seen a bunch of trailers, gameplay videos, press releases on it, we got to bump uglies with her older and yet still quite attractive sister. It's not like we bumped into Gears of War 2 in a bar and just met them. While the sentiment might have been somewhat correct in regards to GeOW2, the analogy wasn't great.
