How can evolution be too slow if it's aimless?...it's by no means a linear progression with a "maximum intelligence" goal. The results of our unique intelligence so far are quite amazing, but have also drastically increased the toxicity and potential deadliness of our planet, as well as narrowing bio-diversity.sam42ification said:I am not very humane so cloning is fine to me. I say we bring them onto this earth we can controll them and dispose of them at will. It would be more humane to tell them "Thats how every one lives" and feed them lies to keep them from rebelion. Maybe I'm a cold heartless basterd but i feel that clones should be controlled. I would hate to have another me wondering around the streets. I wouldn't mind it/me stayed at home cleaning but thats where i draw the line. Screw human rights if we created them. I know there is going to be a lot of negitive feed back to this but i stand by what i say and i feel it's fine to start playing god. How else are going to become more intelligent beings. Clearly what were doing now is too slow.

There is absolutely no point in going to the massive expense of cloning animals that are already reproducing in huge numbers as it is.
I never said evolution is linier or that it has the ultimate goal of intelligence but what i'm saying is at the rate we are going we are bound to either kill ourselves or into much more intelligent beings. When we first started the human body was growing much more in strenght than intelligance but now we are not using our bodies any more it's bound to happen one day we wont need them. There just flabby skin holding us back from what we could discover. Any ways i don't think slavery is wrong becasue we do it every day. In one way or another people are ordering around other people or animals. We definatly haven't gotten rid of slavery and the countless amount of speices that have died out is our fault. Denie it as much as you wont but i want you to think really hard about how we still inslave other people and animals and how were still as brutal now as we were before the 1960s. Were still as a big dicks of a race now as we were when we were enslaving people. The only difference is the way we do it a little more suttle. I think we are just going to disagree with each other but try and think about what i have said because i thought long and hard before posting this reply. Moving foward socially won't do that much good becasue there is a boundary of how social you can be but there is no boundary for intellect. You can never know every thing but we can still try. Sure it's a pointless goal but what is the point of every thing. Living to survive and be nice to every one and object people like me is a pretty crappy way to live. Personally i think we can do what ever we like to clones becasue we have already enslaved every other speciese we know of.Sexual Harassment Panda said:How can evolution be too slow if it's aimless?...it's by no means a linear progression with a "maximum intelligence" goal. If evolution is about adaptability & living in relative harmony with your surroundings...we have thoroughly screwed the pooch. But hey...at least we're intelligent.
I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. I don't hate people, nor do I hold us accountable for what the species has done. We're 7 billion individuals(not a unified species)living in an inherited world and we're forever working from a place of ignorance(the whole world runs on fossil fuels for feck's sake, that's crazy).
That's why I'm glad that we have trepidation about these things, we don't know how it'll turn out. I'm all for growing body parts for medical purposes, it's the moment you start talking about growing complex organisms with brains that I get a little conflicted.
The idea that we would use the technology to make slaves is grotesque. You want to talk about progression/advancement? How about social advancement? At this point in time we fairly uniformly agree that slavery is a bad thing that belongs in the past.
A clone with no mind, held in a permanent state of physical maturity and mental inactivity.Kyoufuu said:How do you get a blank clone? It has its own brain, own experiences, own memories, thoughts, hopes, dreams...
To transfer your mind into it, displacing its own mind, would essentially be murder.
Growing a fully-functional arm or leg from a cell can't be all that difficult once we've got the tech.Serris said:an arm or a leg cannot be easily cloned. the arm would have no muscletissue whatsoever, rendering it less useful then prosthetics. and by the time we can clone arms WITH muscles, we can certainly make prosthetics connected to your nerves (for easy movement and sensory input). so prosthetics would be better in every way, as they're stronger then flesh, and don't need a long time to grow.
@ First, when I read the title, I thought you meant cloning an entire human body. Than I actually read the post >.>. Anyway doesn't that already exist? Growing back arms, legs and other bodily parts using stem cells or something? I reckon that it would be mightily useful but it would cost a lot and would be slow to grow. Maybe in the future, it would be quick and easy. That would be great. No one would have to worry that much about getting hurt.Booze Zombie said:A simple question, do you think cloning will be useful?
For me, yes I think cloning will be useful. See, I've got terrible tooth damage and if someone could clone me a new pair, rip out my old ones and transplant the new ones, I'd take them in a heartbeat.
Same with losing an arm or an eye, just grow one (check it against medical records and make sure it's all healthy) and replace the broken bit.
Note: I don't support the growing of sentient clones, just body parts.
I doubt everyone will think it'll be this simple, though.
So, let's hear your opinions!
It's an easy mistake it make, as not everyone thinks in the same way.Nexoram said:@ First, when I read the title, I thought you meant cloning an entire human body. Than I actually read the post >.>. Ok, thanks for talking to me as though I wouldn't understand what is actually a fairly common outlook towards modern life...sam42ification said:I never said evolution is linier or that it has the ultimate goal of intelligence but what i'm saying is at the rate we are going we are bound to either kill ourselves or into much more intelligent beings.
