I want to know what kind of close calls you guys have had. Be it work or something else.

My closest call was last year. My family and me went to Mississippi for my birthday. The second day we were there, we decided to go to Ship Island. It was beautiful, but the water was brown as hell that day so you couldn't see your hand in the water. Well. I was swimming around when suddenly I noticed something 2 inches from my face.

It was a fucking jellyfish. Didn't get stung, but I almost did.

I don't know, close calls aren't something I really pay attention to anymore. When I cross the road, I'll time it to where I literally walk right behind a passing car, so I guess I'm just used to them, since if timed wrong I could get my foot run over, or worse.

The only close call I can remember is when a large parrot nearly try to bite my neck.

Luckily I barely dodged it.

I was on vacation with my family in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee a few years ago, and my brother and I decided that we were going to climb to the top of the massive waterfall that was the centerpiece of this beautiful mountain grotto. We climbed up this muddy rock wall and we reached the top. We had to have been at least a hundred feet off of the ground. It was awesome, until we had to climb down. I had gotten pretty far down the wall when the rock I had chosen for a foothold shifted slightly and sent me sliding toward an unforgiving stone slab of ground quite a distance below me. Thankfully, my brother caught me. I thanked him, climbed one step closer to flat ground, and the same thing happened again. This time I fell farther, and my brother caught me by the wrist just I was running out of wall to slide down. We scrambled out of there and continued on like nothing happened.

Several times almost been run over (all my own fault though due to me not looking), or fallen down stairs/ladders. It is quite amazing how often in your life you almost die/are seriously injured.

My Mum was in a building 3 hours before an IRA bomb went off :S

Tree fell on my house right over my room during a storm, luckily the roof held up otherwise I'd be dead. Was sleeping at the time too.

I got hit by a bus on my bike once, but that wasn't really close, so I'll share my story of getting mixed up on a motorway, that didn't advertise itself properly, so without warning I was between seventy mile an hour traffic, and before I could switch lanes, I got hit by cross winds of two HGV's going opposite directions with very little clearance, I managed to stay on my bike, because I would have died otherwise. That was pretty close, needless to say I didn't go on that road again...

A person was walking too fast along the canteen holding a steak knife in one hand and their plate in the other. They tripped, arm flung wildly launching the knife directly at my face. I caught it inches from my eye. It's amazing how fast your reactions can be when there's a knife coming at your face.

I had a similar experience, I was at Manhattan Beach at a surf camp. I finally got up on the board when I saw a giant jellyfish floating in front of me, went right over it and cut it in half, when I got close enough to shore I jumped off and sprinted onto the beach with my surf board still attached to my ankle.

Oh, a few weeks ago I almost got hit by a middle aged woman on a narrow street. Had to dive out of the way, I didn't get her plate number.

Landed with my skateboard between my legs and just centimetres away from my balls down a lovely stairset. Id have been in tears for about a year, it hurt being stabbed (by the board...) that hard in the leg, let alone my balls. Can't think about it without trying to protect myself.

Got swept into a cave by a huge wave and couldn't get out for awhile, could see my friends out of the cave on a ledge, afew with their hands out for me to grab but couldn't get further out with big waves pushing me further back to where it just goes underwater. Shat myself and they were saying how wide my eyes got wide with fear and all that. Didn't keep me out of water for long though :)

Got afew almost drowning storys from waves and playing stupidly in them for fun, one will do for today though. :)

Wait, wtf does being stabbed in the leg have to do with skateboarding and stairs?

I was talking about the board stabbing me, not a random unmentioned guy with a knife. :p I'll edit it clearer.

Well, I can think of two things.
First, rewind 17 years. Little Longshot, 4 years are gpoing to the wood to play in the snow, with the other kids in the neighbourhood. Anyway, mum says: "Do not corss the lake, it's not frozen solid enough. Walk to the bridge"
Little Longshot is a kid, so info goes in, info goes out. Come the forrest, it's really too far to that bridge. At least 50 metres... So a kid that's 7 goes on the lake first, and makes it across. I go second... And the ice breaks. Can't swim of course, and I have a ridicolously large wintersuitthingie on, that instantly sucks all the water it can hold. I am sinking. 7 year old boy, thros me the cord to the plasticsled we've brought. You know, sincea plasticsled jut standing on it's own on snow, will definitely make sure I dn't sink, while he runs for help.
I was very afraid. Very cold. Very slowly sinking, as the suit got wetter, andair escaped from it. I will never forget that.
Luckily, before last of me sunk, I was helped up.

econd instance, I was riding my bike home. Think I'm like, 10 or something. Halfway there, the cycle skids out under me, due to large amounts of sand on the road. I land on my feet, though, while the bike falls onto it's side between my legs. I have nobalance, though, and still a little momentu, so I fall over, forwards. And one of the handles are pointing directly upwards, toward me. Sometimes, it feels like things happen in slowmotion. Maybe it's just that you remember eerthing very vividly afterwards, but the way I remember it, it was like faling in slowmotion, but being powerless to stop what is happeneing. Ifel forwards. Didn't take a bit off the fall with my hands. I fall from upright, onto the handle, in the right side of my stomach. Full weight and momentum. I just rolled over next to the bik, and stayed there, dunno how long, as I was unable to move at all. Pain was too great, and all air had been punched out. It hurt breathing. Eventually, some ranom lady drove past me in her car, and picked me up.She drove me home, I called my mum, and she ook me to the doctors. Turns out, had I fell so the handlebar had hit me two centrimeters beneath, it would have cased my spleen to rupture. Considering how long it was till I got meical attention, I would have been dead

Interessting to tell these things, actually.
