Woe Is You said:
Is there any precedent to this kind of thing, anyway?
A reason for Aeris-revival myths? There is a reason for the myths, but they are still that: myths.
If you look very closely, you'll note that 20 seconds into the scene where Sephiroth stabs Aeris, he gains gloves. Out of nowhere. Also, right at the beginning of his descent, you can see some indistinct lines resembling the branches and glowing mako of the northern crater.
Sure enough, if you debug the game, you'll find that Aeris has scripted dialogue during events leading up to the crater, and that there's another,
much higher view of the crater, where everyone is standing stock still at the bottom, suggesting a cutscene is needed to complete the event.
They got it all wrong though. Aeris is not to be revived through these, but her death was originally to be at the crater. They changed it midway through production, to make the story fit better, and simply never removed the excess.
Now that my rant's over, I sure hope that was the question, cause if not, I just spouted a bunch'a crap for nothing.
Oh, and the whole re-release thing is just that: a re-packaging of the same damned product. It's not redone, even though Jesus decreed it ought to be.
