Pretty popular around here!
No worries. Just like having a discussion on here. Not too many, and I love a good fight...or argument...or whatever I should term it.

However, trying to keep opinion out of the news seems to have become a luxury that news does not want to give anymore. They seem to want to sensationalize everything, making it sell more. Perhaps the news would be better if there wasn't so much opinion injected in....but people keep watching. But perhaps it is because they don't really have much choice in the matter.
Debate, maybe?

The news is also very slanted, but I won't list the examples right now because it would be getting off topic.

*ahem* I shall proceed to crawl down a hole now.

I feel I understand quite clearly what rape can do to someone seeing as I have been raped.

It was a horrific, terrible experience. But I would go through it again if I had to if the only other choice was death.
Even two people who are victims of the same act will react differently to it. I recall when I was taking a class on helping victims of natural disasters, they emphasized that we should never say "I understand what you're going through". Because not only does it sound patronizing, but also b/c there are different disasters and people of different backgrounds experience it differently.

Is that kind of a gray area answer? Yeah, and I'm afraid I can't get more specific because I haven't really suffered anything.

... Well, damn. I could not have shoved my foot further down my throat if I had tried.
Well now I feel like a tool. (Was gonna happen eventually.)

I'm sorry that it happened to you. But I still feel like you can't say murder's worse because they're both horrible.
I'm not saying rape isn't horrible. My point is that with each day, there can still be hope. This is something that gets brushed off by a lot of people who have never been in a situation where hope is all they have.

If you are dead, there is no hope at all. But of course, there are situations where death would be kinder.

I just think that America needs to stop putting it's own moral standards on everything. Especially considering the shit on our own knees. (Again, we sexualize females from a young age and teach them that beauty is everything, and getting sex whereever they can is a good way to live.)

Ummm, wasn't this game only produced and sold on Japan? Because I don't think it was allowed to be exported. If you can't get it (legally) here, what's all the commotion? Yes, I know about the game's content, but I still remain by my claim, if you can't procure it legally here, what's all the fuss?

It's getting late here, I've had a fun time and I will be back tomorrow, I'll have to dig deep it seems and tackle many issues, such as whether freedom has intrinsic value or whether it serves only to promote well-being, the problem of dictatorship of the majority, all relating to whether or not hatespeech should be legal. Should be fun, but good night for now.

Omigod I feel so awful. I am so sorry for being a complete jerk. Really really really sorry.
That is what I get for letting myself get angry.

Instead of continuing to browbeat myself and apologize though, I'll respond more seriously to your reply because I think it would be more respectful. (I hope. Otherwise I can certainly apologize a lot more because I totally will.)
I don't necessarily think America SHOULD put its moral standards on others. But I still feel that individuals have the right to feel offended or feel it's wrong.

Exactly. Control what your kids play, even (and especially) if they got something via bootlegging. Let people fantasize what they want.

It is impossible to commit violence against pixels. All they are is a collection of 0s and 1s. If you teach your children that these behaviors are unacceptable from birth, and teach them that just because it's fun in make-believe, doing it against a real person is absolutely wrong, there will never be a problem with these games.

The problems is parents don't control what they're kids are doing. They don't ensure that they grow up with proper values themselves. They buy their children games with adult content and expect the game to teach them the positive morals the parents can't be bothered to teach themselves.

I think Mr. Nogami needs to wake the fuck up.
Okay, so...what point are you trying to make here? I'm assuming that you're against Mr. Nogami on this matter. I've read this link, but I don't see how it proves your invisible thesis here. Shouldn't you explain how and why your link proves whatever it is that you're trying to say? It would really help if you actually announced your position on this subject matter and why you feel this way. You know, instead of typing out two sentences that really don't have any purpose other than to sound smart or to be insulting, resulting in a post that most people have either ignored or simply didn't care about.

Psht. Don't worry about it. I'm not offended at all. Honestly, I get more put off by trolls on the WoW forums than anything you said, lol.

Individuals have the right to be offended, yes. But hate begets hate, and the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I know of no faster way to minor to go try something than to tell them it's horrifically offensive. In a world where parents don't give a crap about what their kids do and let the media raise their kids, this is dangerous.

Shrug it off as being a cultural difference, and kids won't be so eager to check it out.

The best thing to do with that which is truly offensive, but not directly harmful, is to let it die in obscurity.

The crime rate in cities like Tokyo is so low, we really should just keep our mouths shut, and even if they weren't, what authority do we have to say what is allowed in Japan?

The fuss is that some idiots here in USA think they have authority over Japan, it's retarded.

(Edit: I wonked up previous quote thing and couldn't fix it so I put in the long version)
Clearly you are much smarter than I am. You're a very nice person, I'm really thankful you're forgiving.

Huh. That's a really good point. I honestly haven't thought about it like that. Obscurity... I should think on this.

All I'm gonna say is that if CNN was smart they would counter Nogami by bringing up the Rape of Nanjing in 1937. Japan has committed the most horrific acts of rape.

"After the destruction of the POWs, the soldiers turned their attention to the women of Nanking and an outright animalistic hunt ensued. Old women over the age of 70 as well as little girls under the age of 8 were dragged off to be sexually abused. More than 20,000 females (with some estimates as high as 80,000) were gang-raped by Japanese soldiers, then stabbed to death with bayonets or shot so they could never bear witness. "

for more information about the atrocities of the Rape of Nanjing check out:

http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/nanking.htm

I just think more people need to know about what they did.
