Hopefully the robots will make it into the multiplayer. You know, like frontlines did?

Modern Warfare+Armored Core+Metal Gear Solid?

I mean, it sounds interesting at the least but innovative? Eh, I don't know, I need to find out more before I can judge.

Just remember that in previews, especially early previews where we still don't know very much about how a game actually plays, every game sounds like the most fun, interesting, and innovative game ever.

Every. Single. One.

It's impossible to tell for sure if the game will actually live up to the promises until the game actually comes out.

I'd like to see some innovation from the haters of the series. Seriously. These kids have been spouting the same ignorant, unoriginal nonsense for years.

"This aspect was done before in this game."
"Gameplay will be exactly the same."

Shut the fuck up. If you want something wholly original, make your own game. Oh, wait. You can't because you're a no tallent ass that doesn't know a mesh or group of vertices from the cookie crumbs on your desk.

Hypocrites.

...Meh

CoD makes for good, polished, safe games. Sure I'm sick of every publisher and their brother making a long string of clones, but CoD...that's there thing. They make these linear, cinematic shooting galleries with interesting set pieces. They make the Die Hard of video games. Ill put something like Portal 2 on the pedestal long before CoD, but with every CoD game, Ill get a few dozen solid fun hours of explosions and cathartic violence. They do a lot of things right design wise, and there's a reason there mechanics get copied. Adding some innovation, great, but please keep focused on the basics.

My only concern is the non-linear bit. Non linear stuff is great and all, but strict linearity can lead to a much more tightly focused, well paced, and enjoyable story, and overall linearity serves the CoD style well. Nonlinearity and sandbox gets thrown in as buzzwords and reduces a game to a giant mess. I can"t name a single game that had non linearity added to it, and didn't see that weaken the game.

The leader of this group is Menendez and instead of the usual black and white style evil guy he will have a fleshed out backstory which is being created by the guy who did Heath Ledgers Joker for the recent Batman films. Yay no more one dimensional bad guys.

They've improved the engine with special attention given to characters and facial animations. Also gone is the linear, scripted story of old. Instead there will be branching story paths where things like failing a mission will have consequences.
I like the change of setting, Ill give it that much. But im reeeeeeeeally reserving judgement for the "branching story" and "in depth characters" bits. Considering this is coming from the team that made Black Ops 1.

Oh and also...zombie campaign...really....really???? Are we really scrapping the bottom of the barrel this much to get attention?

A critics skill in making games has nothing to do with the validity of their opinion. 99% of game reviewers dont know how to make games, so are their opinions completely invalid?

Also nothing in their statements was actually hypocritical. If you're going to have a fanboy rant and swear and call names at least be accurate.

I'm mainly just hoping for futuristic multiplayer maps with teleports, elevators, crawling through air vents, shooting lights out so you need NVG, etc, etc. And more like Battlefield 3 in regards to large maps that are focused on vehicle combat. So I can go full stealth, or rambo style, or just rock up in a tank or helicopter and blow shit up.

While the current gameplay is almost perfected, and there are varients of stealth and such, really, all gameplay types are just a varient of run n' gun, every man for him(her)self. While it's good arcade action, I also want it to deverge more into a battle/war feeling, so I can play any style I want and each style feels unique and feel like there's an overall point to each match.

I'm surprised that they have DEDICATED zombie campaign. As in a separate campaign entirely about zombies to the normal campaign. As far as I know zombies was just a mode in WaW and Blops.

Amazing, all these brilliant ideas!

I so believe these claims, just like Bioohwait.

Sorry, seeing this as little more than a ploy to try wrangle some extra pre-orders from people capable of independent thought.

To reuse a phrase, "Less of what you say, more of what you do"

I actually enjoy the Treyarch CODs quite a lot. World at War was great and Black Ops is the best game in the series. The multiplayer was balanced, the maps were well designed, and the zombies mode was fantastic. I'm looking forward to Black Ops 2.

CoD and the word innovation in the same sentence. And here I thought the 2012 apocalypse wouldn't happen. Well I guess their trying to fine a niche market perhaps.

btw, robots are not fun to fight, they don't have all the pleasure of killing a squishy organic.
I don't know, the enemies in Metal Arms are nothing but robots and they are ridiculously fun to kill. :p

OT: I've never really been interested in CoD to be honest. But this does sound like something the series needs.

I'm just gonna point out that there was no gunplay footage in that trailer.
So for all we know, nothing will change.

With that out of the way, the setting and "Strike Force" sounds like a mash of Homefront, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142.

So Black Ops 2 just got announced and with it a vast majority of info. Sorry about the wall of text but I just thought I would outline the new things coming in to a franchise that is getting rather stale.

Firstly it'll be set in 2025 where the US is in a new Cold War with China, a newly risen super power, over precious materials. Then the US is attacked by cyber terrorists who somehow get control of the US drones and uses them to lay waste to it's own cities. New time, new setting.

A new feature is something called "Strike Force". These are special missions where you control a black ops group consisting of soldiers, UAVS and robot walkers. You can change between these units at will by zooming to an overhead view and putting yourself into any unit you want at the time. You can also issue orders from this view to units making it almost RTS like.

The enemies and allies will also be more diverse in campaign with you teaming up with and fighting against UAVs and Walkers as well as normal soldiers. The technology isn't too OTT but there are many interesting things such as wrist mounted explosive launchers and sniper rifles that let you see through walls.

So is this too little too late or is it a much needed breath of fresh air?
1. Cold war with China in the future over resources = Fallout 1, 1997.
2. Cyber Terrorists = Deus Ex, 2000
3. Branching mission structure = True Crime: Streets of LA, 2003

Their ideas may seem "new" but these ideas were tested by games almost 10 years old. Even in innovation Black Ops seems slow. Sorry to say, but I doubt they will actually innovate.
It's pretty fucking obvious that it's not new for the gaming industry, and only new for Call of Duty.

Fuck multipayer. I actually thought Black Ops had a really decent story to it, and loved that it not only connected with World at War (By the same developer, too) it also showed you what happened to one of the playable characters from WaW (Which made me rage. So hard). I honestly never had much of a problem with the linearity in the CoD games, I just wished they were more than four or five hours long. But hopefully, Black Ops 2 could be really fucking good.
