COD: Ghosts reuses cutscene from MW2

As you can clearly see from the video above, Ghosts has been caught copy/pasting a cutscene straight from MW2. Is this and stolen ideas like Extinction, indicative of how lazy Infinity Ward has become? It could be argued in their favor that maybe they did this to help curb some of the development budget bloat, but with all of the COD games being so similar anyways, how much would they have saved? It would be interesting if more evidence of recycling things from past games comes out.

Infinity Ward just seemed to stop trying after MW2. There's no excuse for recycling the cutscene so obviously.

Ya I don't think Activision actually cares because it's been proven at this point that regardless of how much of the same game COD is, and even out right the same thing as the previous installment people will still line up at midnight to buy it.

Might be an issue of the new team trying to hard to live up to the name of the old team, but yeah, ever since IW lost about half its team in 2010, their games don't seem to be even trying to push forward like they used to.

In any case, to be fair to Ghosts, it isn't like the scene from MW2 was original anyways. For all we know, this wasn't an intentional copy/paste, just a case of having the same generic "You did good, now let's get you out of here" scene.

But, assuming it was intentional, it isn't the first time something was copy/pasted from an old game. CoD4 actually reused some of the sound effects from the original game.

There all kinds of recycling going on in Call of Duty as seen on the internet, as a game developer, I don't blame them. There was a re-textured warehouse that was used in like 3 COD games. I don't think it is lazy, if done correctly, it is smart. The less time you can put in one place transferred over to other places in the game.

They have a legion of people willing to shell out 60 bucks for the same game if it has several new maps in multiplayer.

I doubt these people care about singleplayer.

I'm not that surprised, games usually do this anyway.

It's only 18 seconds, it doesn't make the cinematic any worse...

So yeah, not a problem.

The price that this game is being sold for is irrational. It beggars belief. I cannot understand how a rational, thinking person would spend £55 of their own money on it. Not all of it, obviously, just part of it. Just the base game. Just the base game with its muddy textures and narrow FOV and low frame-rate and indefensible online community.

I'm going to go before the misanthropy kicks in again. I do not wish to think about this any more.

Maybe...maybe it's a call back? Like an homage?

I don't know. I never played any of the COD's except the original WW2 one. We hate them though, right? Isn't that the community consensus? Boo! Boooo COD! We won't stand for your...game play elements and...things...that you do!

Back during the days of Call of Duty 4 I would never have expected that Infinity Ward would end up being the second rate developer and Treyarch the first. What an unexpected turn-around.

Man, im so happy I decided not to buy this one. Really was looking foward to a new COD after how much fun Blops2 was, but Infinity ward is just dead weight for the franchise now. Hate to say that considering MW2 is my favorite of the series.

I'm pretty sure companies do this all the time. Maybe not this specifically, but reused assets isn't rare or even uncommon.

I'm not defending the game at all, it looks exactly the same after all and the biggest innovation they could come up with was to have a fucking dog running around with you.

Don't just get dragged up by the angry mob mentality and start moaning about such little things.

That is the first thought I had.

I'm not going to throw out them reusing the general cinematography and animations because they were there though. Could've been a bit of both, they had the cutscene and decided to make it a call back.

Yeah, I thought that, too. I don't really see the problem.

I don't play the games, so I dunno how similar they really are.

Re-used assets are all fine, no one is expecting a sequel to be entirely made from scratch, running animations are usually the same and so are many other things but to have a cutscene be the exact same thing (like using the exact same animation files for its creation), that just screams lazyness and shows how little the developers care for their own product.

Lazy lazy lazy. I mean come on, it looks identical to MW2's! Any sensible developer would not have reused video cutscenes like this.

Hoooooooly shit, 15 seconds of cinematography that looks strikingly similar to another 15 seconds in a previous game, I mean CLEARLY that is more than enough evidence to write this whole game off as a worthless piece of shit.

To be fair, it's 18 seconds of cutscene in an FPS. And, as someone said before, the whole set-up isn't original to begin with. At worst, it's a corner snip and at best it's a homage.

I don't know much about the campaign (Only saw LP of first levels) but the multiplayer and extinction modes look nice enough.

There is a reason everyone is dog piling on this game.
Yeah, and THIS is THE reason. All that other shit that can be debated is irrelevant.
15 seconds of similar cinematography. 15 seconds. That's what is worth making a thread about.

And all the reasons you snipped from his post.
