Infinity Ward just seemed to stop trying after MW2. There's no excuse for recycling the cutscene so obviously.
Well to be fair Infinity Ward lost around half their staff including the 2 studio founders after MW2 so they have some excuse for standards dropping slightly

There is a reason everyone is dog piling on this game.
Yeah, and THIS is THE reason. All that other shit that can be debated is irrelevant.
15 seconds of similar cinematography. 15 seconds. That's what is worth making a thread about.
And all the reasons you snipped from his post.
But poor optimization isn't the topic of the thread. A recycled cutscene is.

Back during the days of Call of Duty 4 I would never have expected that Infinity Ward would end up being the second rate developer and Treyarch the first. What an unexpected turn-around.
Ever since Black Ops the way CoD has run is:

Treyarch takes some ideas from their game and the latest IW game, and improves on those ideas to what they think will be fun.

IW takes some ideas from their own game and a few from Treyarch's last game, ruins both of them or just copy pastes it.

I know of IW's troubles, but in all honesty it's 15 seconds of footage. It really shouldn't have been that hard to have the characters do different actions (even if it was just having the character appear at a different angle or move their armies in the other way).

Exactly, and we don't even need the other reasons as he's sarcastically implying just to discuss this particular topic.

It is worth making thread about, not only to bash on CoD which seems to be always relevant but for other reasons such as Disney have been using the same animations throughout films for years and no one bashes them, along with a lot of CGI in more recent films. This would be a good thread to debate the parallels of games and film from another point of view, as usually we're complaining films are just as violent as our games, yet games can get away with much less from a age rating standpoint, however when people are making them we don't want the same corners cut as films.

True but apparently IW had no intention of ever continuing the MW series beyond CoD4 so I'm not surprised they'd cut corners. It's lazy yes but understanable

Call of Duty reusing assets, mocap data and ideas? Impossible! That would never happen in a million years! [/sarcasm]

To play devil's advocate, reusing assets isn't an uncommon practice, nor is rehashing ideas. Something that worked before it bound to work again, so if it can save money and time, it's a good business idea. On the flip side, it's terrible from an entertainment and artistic standpoint.

Well if OP wanted those to be discussed so badly, then he should've picked a less roundabout way of saying it.
