So Infinite Warfare has all but been confirmed.

<youtube=uViCfkvHHzE>

The title may not be Infinite Warfare, but it is almost definitely sci-fi and space travel themed.

I am a bit disappointed, I was hoping for a return to form for this year's CoD (meaning boots on the ground, "realistic" setting), especially after replaying CoD 2. Despite having not played CoD for a very long time, I have been following the games and the community, and it seems to be general consensus that everyone is getting tired of futuristic settings and "advanced movement mechanics".

That said, I guess this pretty much confirms all the leaks, so I think we will actually be getting a Modern Warfare remaster (or remasters?). As long as they don't make it exclusive to the rumored "Legacy Edition", then Activision and Infinity Ward can do whatever they want with this new game.

The problem is, COD has this unfair tag attached to it "it's the same game every year, it never changes" ... when in fact it changes quite a bit. So do they keep trying to change things, to silence criticism or do they not change anything and feed into the criticism?

I prefer the old shooters, I don't want to be bouncing from wall to wall or butt scooting across the floor on jet powered farts but how else can you change up a MP shooter? Titanfall added mechs and this fart flight but that game seemed to die off after a year, evolve had lop sided game play but again, dead in a year ...

I'm just not sure what people want from COD, except maybe a break but nobody is forcing people to buy these games and last I checked they are still doing well.

If I was Acti, I'm not sure what I'd do with it to be honest.

It's funny how times change. I haven't see too many people throwing the "CoD games are all the same" thing since MW3.

I think the problem is that when every CoD game is released, two others are already being made. They have no clue what people will want or won't want in three years. If this CoD has fart mechanics, I feel bad for them. Infinity Ward either had no clue that people would not like all the double jumps and boosting, or they had no clue that Sledgehammer and Treyarch would also go the fart direction.

So what I think CoD needs is either more cooperation between devs, to ensure diversity in the series, or get the fuck rid of the yearly release thing.

It's an Infinity Ward game which means I'll likely skip it[footnote]IW haven't made a great game since 2007, and haven't made a game I've enjoyed since the so-bad-it's-good MW3 in 2011.[/footnote] - but it looks like Activision are making Treyarch advertise IW's stuff again. It's not as hilarious as the "Ghosts" advert on "Black Ops II" (because it feels less desperate) but Activision clearly don't have confidence with what used to be the top dogs of this franchise.

Sigh...

I really don't want to hate CoD. I really don't - haven't played since the WWII era, so anything I say about it is just prejudice on my part. But this trailer isn't making it easy.

First of all, "bald guy addresses viewers in space." Killzone did it, and did it better (seriously, watch the intro to KZ1 & 2, it's basically "speech writing for dictators 101"). Second of all, the skull. Didn't we have the skull motif in the Ghosts teaser trailer? Isn't Infinity Ward doing the same tease tactic again, only the skull face is now associated with the antagonists rather than protagonists?

Also, the enemies are the "Settlement Defense Force." Huh. So I suppose that we'll be playing on the imperialists (for lack of a better term) side? Wasn't there a similar setup in Titanfall between the IMC and Frontier Militia? Didn't I feel similarly uneasy in Halo when the Insurrection is presented as antagonists despite the fact that their grieviances with the UEG are quite understandable? It's weird that a setting with space Nazis (yes, the helghast are space nazis are the end of the day, we can admit that) feels more morally complex (at least if you read the backstory) than a setting which, at the least, ISN'T based on space Nazis?

On the plus side, the series has been pushing further and further into the future since Black Ops II, so I can at least get entertainment in seeing how far into the future the series will get before backpeddling, causing a surge of resentment that it's repeating itself by going back into the past and prompting demand for games set in the future again.

Edit: On the plus side, that's a pretty nifty way of marketing in regards to the Nuketown map.

Really? Just read the comment under yours ...

To be technical, they have gotten rid of the yearly release, as you say, they are on a three dev cycle each a game ... so they are on a 1 every 3 years cycle.

It's B-cell's mission in life to praise the games he likes (shooters of "ye olde school" of FPS), and berate anything else that falls outside that clique (guess where CoD falls?) It's feelings that a lot of people share, but even if they didn't, B-cell would still spout them out.

I think a lot of videogamers might hate on Activision solely because it used to give games like Elite Force/EF2. I don't mind CoD but I do feel the creativity well is running dry.

After Ghosts, my pet favorite in the series, I was hoping Infinity Ward would stick to modern day settings with realistic technology. But we'll see how this turns out. Naturally, I have zero interest in the MP in these games, so I really hope the campaign hasn't gone down the wonky, poorly paced path that Black Ops III did.

Also, I hope they bothered to hire a decent writer. Jesse Stern is probably busy writing Titanfall 2, but they could get Stephen Gaghan back.

To me this sounds like CoD will be only one step away from being Halo if they keep this up. That's not exactly a good thing considering that the Halo series is a bit past it's prime the last time I checked.

Well, the trailer's been leaked, and it looks about as asinine as I feared. And they had to drag David Bowie through the muck as well. :(

Sweet, I like sci-fi so I'm fine with it, I also like the designs of those ships, fighters, etc in the teaser. So yeah I'm good. I probably won't buy it or anything but I never minded that they went the sci-fi direction.

That Bowie cover can suck huge dicks though.

Eh, to be fair, Advanced Warfare's multiplayer came closer to an old-school run&gun arena shooter more than anything I've played in years by that point. The campaign was...well, you know. But now with Doom for its campaign and Unreal Tournament and Overwatch for their multiplayer I'm personally pretty much covered on the straight-up FPS genre so CoD has become superfluous no matter what.

So, the full trailer's been released. And in its defence, I will say that it's a lot more palatable than the teaser version. True, we have David Bowie again, but coming in well into the trailer rather than dominating it does give its use a bit more gravitas.

So, thoughts? Well, while this is coming not long after the above post, I'm sort of intrigued...sort of. I like sci-fi stuff, and the idea of a war sparking between Earth and outer colonies is one I can get behind. In games, we have stuff like Killzone, Section 8, and Titanfall. In literature, we have stuff like The Lost Fleet and The Expanse (granted, in literature, that concept goes at least as far back as The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, but I haven't read it, so can't comment). That idea can certainly work. Perhaps I'm hoping too much that Infinite Warfare will be anything other than "SDF=bad, fight them," (let's be honest, Section 8 is just as guilty of that approach) but hey, go figure.

Other minor things, such as the use of flag patches (apparently nations are still relevant in a world of space colonization), and that the level of technology seems more akin to Black Ops III/Advanced Warfare, but I'm probably overanalyzing at this point.

Edit: Summary is "Prepare for a gripping war story in which players fight against the Settlement Defense Front to defend our very way of life."

Well, there goes subtlety. :(

?The original Modern Warfare raised the bar on video games and forever will be remembered as one of the best. It?s an honor to be developing the remaster and we are committed to faithfully remastering this classic for Call of Duty fans,? stated Brian Raffel, studio head of Raven Software."

Is this guy for real?? a head of company that made hexen, heretic and soldier of fortune?? sounds like activision puppet

I'm at work so I can't video. Does this have the worrying nationalistic bordering on fascist undertones we've come to expect from the series?

CoD 4 is a great game. It's highly atmospheric and actually makes you feel like you're down in the dirt and smelling the smoke. It is a superlative example of how to make an engaging linear shooter. If you want Heretic, play Ziggurat.

Also Raven was gutted back in 2009 when it was realised they'd been making shit for the last six years.

Honestly, I actually liked the trailer. But maybe I'm just an idiot. I do question how they are going to flesh out all of the different time periods, though. Also, vehicular combat is not something COD is know for, right?
