I find both games boring. They prioritize everything I either don't like or don't care about in a game, while excluding what I do care about.

I've played them, I even own earlier iterations of each. I can safely say that I don't give a shit about them. I pay about as much attention to those games as I do the latest sports games. Same shit every year, just with a higher number slapped on the end.

My bias against COD stems from my hate for online gameplay, I don't care for playing with people I've never met online, and if I do know them I'd rather go over to their house or have them at mine, in which case there are many other games I'd rather play (Munchkin, Catan, Killer Bunnies, Mariokart, Mario Party, Dokapon Kingdom pretty much in that order) Secondly I play games that have really narrative stories(Crysis, Goldeneye, Final Fantasies) or really unique or compelling gameplay (Portal, Trauma Center, The Legend of Zelda) I'm not saying that COD is horrible there is just so many games I'd rather be be playing.

This thread? Again?

Anyway, it's because it's popular. More people know about it, more people have played it, more people have disliked it.
I don't hate it because its popular. The story lines are decent but not great. I mean BlOps had a good one but it was stupid once you know the twist and was really not worth a second play through.
The multiplayer is unbalanced as hell. For being something that puts you on teams does not really want you to play as a team.
And I can't find the video but it was posted on here a while ago about a team that was able to completely skunk the other team because of how static the spawns were and killed them AS they spawned. Yeah I know its a fake but just being able to do that is ridiculous.

First of all, I think there needs to be their own forum for effing "Why all the hate for CoD!?" threads. Because there's plethora of them. If only people could use the search bar.

And no, I don't "hate" CoD. I don't "hate" anything. I just don't particularly like the Call of Duty series, same way I don't like Madden or NFL.

Tommeh Brownleh said:
Yes, the games are mostly the same from a visual and gameplay standpoint, and I understand we all like a good amount of innovation, but seriously?
You've answered the question right there. And putting "but seriously?" in the end of the sentence, isn't a great argument.

Tommeh Brownleh said:
Do you just hate it because it makes a lot of money?
No? Who has claimed this

Tommeh Brownleh said:
Is it because the utterly simple run and gun mechanics, which is only one of the many playstyles, are working and doing what the industry was designed for in the first place, making money?
What? No?

What makes me wonder this the most, is the fact that most people who will argue against COD will crucify themselves in the name of Battlefield, which does the same damn thing with a few different mechanics. (destroy-able cover, vehicles, and more strategic play typically for BF, Perks, killstreak rewards, and a more berserk style of play typically for COD)
I care just as little about Battlefield as I care about Call of Duty. As far as I can understand it, the fact that Battlefield is more tactical and not an overly easy lone-wolf shooter is what makes it less "hateable" for most people. Personally I find them both pretty dull.

they don't add new play modes to the main list, they should do that once a month, how hard is it to add pistols only or shotguns and rockets, or only get points for capturing the flag in ctf and not for camping.

how about not balancing the weapons, and bad matchmaking, on the rare occasion in cod when I am in a room with people all equal to my skill and having fun for a few rounds the game will always throw in 1 guy whos better then everyone and ruin everything.

I enjoy cod but those are some issues that never seem to be adressed

Because:

1. There's no innovation. Its become the "Madden" of the FPS Genre. Every new release is a Map Pack with 10-20 new weapons.

2. There's no fixing. The same glitches happen from year to year.

3. The story area has gotten beyond J-RPG 1980s Translations Bad.

4. Every lobby features:
  • One whiny 12-14 year old that has not hit puberty thinking they are the sh*t, but end up being 1st or 2nd worst player on the map.
  • One noob that you always get on your team that ends up going 2/28 K/D.
  • Three exploiters, two on opponent team, one on your team that use the latest "easy kill" strategies.
  • 4-8 Noob Tubers that can only get a kill using the 203 Attachment.
  • One guy with extra-loud speakers at max volume that can't shut off his mic, so everything that his speakers hear, his microphone hears, and loops into your ears.

5. They still have not protected against Modded Controllers, an easy thing to detect and remove players instantly.

6. Misshapen hitboxes.

7. Laggy servers.

8. No true balance.

9. Quick scoping.

10. Required DLC Map Packs to play without getting kicked out after 1 map.

11. Required "ELiTE" paid to get stuff that we get for free in years before.

12. Overhyping.

That's all the reasons I can think of right now.

I was fond of CoD up until the months before MW2 came out. You see, I mainly play games on my PC and I was looking forward to MW2. But then, something happened.

The PC version was announced to be lacking dedicated servers, and several other features that should be and are standard in most PC games.

And that annoyed me.

And then they told me that it would make everything better for me, and that made me mad. The classic example of a poorly thought out PC port which lacked standard (and basic) PC features.

I realised quite recently that Call of Duty gameplay is completely monotonous. I was playing Modern Warfare 2's CAMPAIGN, which - to me - is supposed to be the more varied part of the game, and I got bored really quickly. It was after an unintentional break from first-person shooters which lasted about 6 months. I decided to play again, and CoD's reached the point for me that it's just tedious. I'm worried that it's so successful, though, because it will make other games copy it to imitate such success until there's nothing but CoD clones on the market...

On a slightly unrelated note, I think it's criminal that Activision thinks it can sell such a sure-fire successful game each year and still expect $100 every time. If it wasn't about Call of Duty being a cash cow, they would set the RRP at something around $60. Then again, I don't know how it all works, so it might be more complicated than that.

i just don't like it because it seems every shooter that isnt Battlefield or Cod tries to copy them. it litterally seems like gaming has gone backwards since COD became popular

Um Idk the only Cod game I've had enough play time with to have a legitimate opinion on is Mw1. I have to say the only real complaints I have about it is the campaign ends abruptly, and people who can't shut up(the little kids and adults). Really the hate for the series as a whole seems a bit irrational for a lot of people.

Because the amount of 'new' content between each game isn't even enough to qualify as an expansion pack.
And charging a small fortune for maps is fucking bullshit.

Oh hello thread, I didn't expect to see you again so soon! That's what? 50 times in the past month?

But if I must be constructive... It's because the Call of Duty games are the most basic of basic shooters. There's nothing particularly unique about them.
If you imagine each FPS game as a pizza, then the Call of Duty games are plain cheese, whereas TF2 is a Hawaiian, Section 8: Prejudice is a pepperoni and battlefield is a meat combo.

Now, in my first attempt at derailing a thread, what kind of pizza is your favourite game?
This is mostly true, but I would say that the graphical effects on CoD4 are unique in a way. It was a pretty immersive campaign because of the way the graphics were used. And I know, I know "grahpics don't make a good game blah blah" but in my opinion the graphics certainly enhanced CoD4 enough that I would consider it a decent game. Haven't liked any of them since particularly much but I wouldn't say that the reason most people hate it is due to a lack of originality.

I don't hate the game, I hate the players I run into on the game. Its why I usually steer clear of any multiplayer, but CoD doesn't have interesting gameplay (IMO) to even get me interested in Single Player. The campaign and the quick matches just bore me. I simply do not find it fun, so I do not play it.

It's the developers one trick horse, COD after COD being released every year without trying to become anything special and with short campaigns. It has too much power, raking in money with the same damn formula, why can't they make a really big COD and focus on trying something different? They're playing it really really safe and I hate it, it's pathetic.

It's since Call of Duty is so popular. People on the internet like to make themselves feel special by saying they hate it. I don't blame them, it's in their nature to be horrible.

Well, to me, many FPS's fall into similar environmental categories. Land of the Brown, Land of the Dark Colors, Land of Futuristic-Bright-Lights-o-Rama, or Land of Dirty Neutrals. That I can ignore...kinda.

Then the guns. Many of them, particularly modern realistic, have similar guns. That, I can accept.

Then there are the game modes, and types of multiplayer. Most of the same.

Then the Players. Most of the same, but so,so many of them are undeniably infuriating. Those that Hack, those that Whine, those that Rage, those that Glorify their own movements.

All that I can deal with. Paying for Game 1, 1a, 1b, 1c? ONE TINY SWITCH OR ADD ON DOES NOT FEEL WORTH MY TIME. Nor does higher graphics, better sound effects, or extra maps.

Team Fortress, and other games that have their own unique feel and gameplay, make for a much more worthwhile experience. FPS games that involve stronger strategy, are more worth my time. Those with unique weaponry and combination of weaponry, are more worth my time.

Why tread the same ground unless you are going to actually make something far more inspiring or interesting?

THAT'S why I cannot stand CoD games.

If something gets too popular a lot of people will hate it, no matter what the objective quality.

Lil Wayne is a great example of this. CoD is an even better example.
Yep, that's how you ignore all criticisms. However, your argument is generalising and holds no ground.
