Great! So, when are game companies gonna get labor unions?
Good lord, can you imagine what the AAA budget would look like if a union that is like the UAW or CWA made the big devs closed shops? They'd have to sell two copies to every man, woman, and child on earth to break even. They'd also be buggy messes, no more QA crunch time near release, unions like the UAW tend to take a pretty tough stance about not letting anyone whose job title isn't "journeyman job A'er" from being asked to pitch in and do some Job B or Job C work.

Also, in general about this article, while this is definitely a good thing, more opportunity is always good, I'm just slightly offended that they offer free classes and workshops for 'women' only. (From codeliberation.tumblr.com) "If you identify as a woman, Code Liberation invites you to come make games in a weekend long game jam, starting tonight at 6:30PM!" ...I don't identify was a woman, but I'd like to go to a free weekend long game jam. Pff, women need to check their privilege.

The tricky part is this, so the majority of the hardcore video game market are men, as such games in that market do better if they target a male audience. If a developer decides they want to make a game which won't appeal to that audience they will have a harder time getting it published, games in the hardcore market are big expensive productions and not having an audience to buy it can often force a developer to fold, since a larger portion of the mobile games market are women a lot of the games on those devices have friendlier less violent themes.

I don't blame women for not wanting to make games based on the things i enjoy, i like action, violence, kung fu fighting, beautiful women, guitar rock soundtracks, but to not cater to an audience of people like me is to lose sales, which isn't good for a business or the industry.
