Right, at the moment I?m working as an intern at a stockbroker as so I have been doing the ?working lunch? thing and going to get coffee (or in my case hot chocolate because I don?t like coffee :p) in the mornings. Now, usually I turn my nose up at places like Costa or Starbucks for selling overpriced junk to City workers.

Now I see their true genius.

These people don?t know any better and such simply buy whatever they think is good and it?s an added bonus if they feel they are making a difference in the world by sending half a penny in profits to some charity that the company itself probably set up.

What I?m trying to say is the only reason that people get suckered in to coffee shops like Starbucks is because they don?t think. They simply go with what they know.

For example, I got an awesome hot chocolate with extra cream for £1 from a local cafe near the office I?m working in. £1! You couldn?t get anything other than ?after coffee mints? from one of the other coffee shops.

People need to make a conscious decision that whether they want to just be a mindless drone eating and drinking the same hot milk anywhere in the world or actually go out and have a look for something cheaper and better for them.

So, what is your opinion on coffee shops? Waste of space? Secret world domination front? The best thing since sliced bread?

I like walking past coffee shops because I like judging people. All those silly little indie people with their overpriced toys and unimpressive fashion, I know I'm a better standard of person than them and it makes me smile.

I love coffee shops.

That reminds me of the Family Guy sketch with the two guys with laptops in a coffee shop going:
"Hey! Do you want to see me type!"
"Sure! I see you typing there pretty good!"

(Can't find a clip of it >:|)

High Caffiene in their coffee?

Holy DURRRHHHH Batman!
To be fair, most people could be forgiven for thinking they just put frothy milk and syrup in cups :p

Never set foot in one, don't imagine I ever will.

I don't like coffee.

We have a tendency to load our coffeeshops up with drugs over here as well.

Can't remember actually seeing a place you go to just to buy coffee, ever.

Starbucks bought out the rotisserie restaurants my ma & I used to eat lunch at when we both worked for a now-defunct car dealership. They already had a Tully's right across the street & another Starbucks down a little further. They also bought out my favorite independant coffee shop just up the street & got rid of their awesome variety of flavors. Then there's Starbuck Corporate Headquarters. I learned that they make their file clerks work down in the basement & don't allow them to wander the upper building or use the cafetaria like normal employees.

I live in Washington, so when I see Seattle, every 5th building is a coffee shop.

Well, I hate coffee, so they're not places I'd frequent. My significant other, Jenny, loves coffee so I'll go with her sometimes just because I know she likes it. I mean, I get their five-fucking-dollar hot chocolate instead of a coffee, but it's worth it for her.

I'm not a big fan of the hipster douchebags that are there, though.

aye, theyre a ripoff.

I like coffee, but people can be incredibly snobby about it as much so as with wine. And just like with wine people generally dont actually have a forkin clue, they just feel like they 'should' be snobby about coffee/wine and drink in the most popular coffee shop.
But if you are snobby about coffee(which i am) how can you possible drink starbucks coffee. It is the foulest tasting stuf you can even drink. It is not even worth the name coffee. It should be called: muck from the bottom of an oil drum.

Last time I went to Starbucks was... last July I think.
It's so overpriced, and it's full of stupid scene and Indie kids with their trilby hats, convincing themselves this tiny pot of coffee costing £5 makes them look sophisticated.
I sometimes get coffee from a shop in Hull train station that sells it for £1, it's an American company and I got some chocolate thing from there once, it was so sugary :|

Eh, I don't like buying coffee from stores, they are usually overpriced, taste like shitty warm milk and I feel like a douche walking around holding it. It's easier to just make one myself and drink it before I leave for school in the morning.

One of these days, perhaps when I finally have the means to work from home, I'll pony up the $70+ US for my own espresso machine and I won't have to worry about going to a coffee shop to get a brew that doesn't taste like water filtered through sediment from the bottom of the Schuylkill River.

I'm a big fan of Finally Free. =]
Took me a few seconds before I remembered what my Avatar is. I just love the entire album, there isn't a single bad song on there, probably my favourite album of all time, just in front of Images and Words and Wintersun's self titled album.

I was actually attempting to learn Overture 1928 and Strange Deja Vu on drums for a while, but scrapped it for a while because it was a massive headfuck and my friend knows how to play Under a Glass Moon on guitar, and I can play most of that song already so I'm working on that now.

There is no starbucks where I live, and I don't really go to coffee shops; but if I suddenly felt the need for a cup of coffee I would probably go to "Dromedar kaffebar". From what I hear they have some of the worlds best baristas there.

I have a Starbucks on campus. Their prices are lower than normal starbucks because they can afford to with the amount of business they get. I also get a discount as a student, so prices are gooood.

I also live off coffee. My veins are actually filled with it instead of blood. I am willing to pay because it really is damn good coffee. Their prices are a bit of a rip off in larger towns, but £2 for an entire damn pint of coffee with cream, syrup, sprinkles and chocolatey goodness?
YES PLEASE

I don't like coffee, so I always buy hot chocolate instead, but the coffee shops are icredibly overpriced around here. One local café's hot chocolate is heaven though, it costs the equivalent of 1,5£ too. That's not so bad. Everywhere else, it costs a fortune and aren't nearly as good.

I don't visit them, but they are convenient for some people, so I think they should be allowed to stay.
