Collecting things in RPGs

I've been playing Fallout 3 a lot lately, and I find myself collecting many things. Like, everything. Screw themes, scavver is my house theme, i've got piles of pre-war money, a bar's worth of whiskey bottles, a rapidly growing army of garden gnomes, a growing pile of nuka cola cars and trucks, and every single plunger I have managed to come across.

Oblivion, morrowwind, and Fallout 3 seem to be the primary players in this semi-hobby, but MMORPGs and other games seem to fall into this as well. I collected set pieces before quitting wow, even if they were not necessarily my set. I collected skulls in morrowwind and oblivion, very, very large piles of skulls, routinely dumping armor and weapons on the ground in favor of yet more skulls.

What do YOU collect?

I collect everything in Oblivion. I mean, I even have boxes in my house for plates and the like, clothes, candle sticks, I mean, everything. There's nothing I don't collect in that game. If I pick it up, it gets put in my collection.

Yeah, Oblivion is good for that. I used to collect every human bone I could find. Call me the Bone Collector *wink* *wink*

Chinese Officers Swords and interesting pieces of clothing.

I pretty much track down all the interesting clothes I can.

Once I realised I was never going to use any of the drugs in Fallout 3 I decided to create a stash in my house.
The game never was challenging enough to use any drugs but stimpacks for me. Now, I have enough med-x, jet and psyco to medicate the entire capital wasteland for weeks on end.

Well, in Shadow Hearts...
Trading cards with big naked gay men on them.

You have to, if you want to get all the magic doll dresses. For the old man's little puppet girl.

Yeah.

In Morrowind I have a huge collection of useless spells. I've got everything from water breathing to fortify strength, but it's all worthless 'cause I made an uber spear that lets me have a full set of deadric armor and a more uber spear all with one strike. I also have a everlasting army that has already destroyed Pelagaid and Seydn Neen and I am currently trying to raise an army to kill off Balmora. Good times.

Off the point has any one noticed that Morrowind spells seem to be more cheats than actual spells?

In Oblivion I collected full suits of Daedric, Ebony, and Glass armor and weapons, then put them on display on the shelves with EXCRUCIATING detail to placement and orientation. It took me hours and I have no idea why I did it, but if given the chance I'd do it again.

Yup. If you were powerful enough, you could make/use spells that pretty much destroyed the game. That's how a guy beat Morrowind in somwhere around 11 minutes. (Google it and I'm sure you could find it)

Which ones, the soul gems? They work okay but whenever I tried putting one of those Oblivion stones in a case, it would end up rolling around the floor by the time I got back.

In Oblivion I liked to collect followers, (the annoying fan, Brother Martin, and anyone else who was knockoutable rather than killable; quite a few of them) not finish their quest, then bring them all to my houses for huge parties.

In Fallout3 I liked to collect the mutilated body parts from Gore Bags and decorate with them; they also make good RockIt Launcher ammo.
I guess I'm a pretty sick guy.

I did the same thing. The kvatch mod gives you your own castle to decorate, fun times. Strangely I'm doing the same thing with plungers in fallout 3.

I filled a room with skulls, shut the doors, and used explosive spells to make them fly through the air.

Come to think of it, i have a huge pile of meds as well, I am playing a "good" charachter so I use little of them.

I will ramp up the difficulty if possible and play a truly malevolent charachter in my next run thru, so i'll probably end up addicted to all sorts of smack and have to off little old ladies for their jet

I used to collect enchanted items in Morrowind and displayed them in... err "my" house in Balmora. Everywhere you turn there's a shiny weapon, armor, accessory or clothing. Upstairs in crates are standard useful items like potions, repair hammers, ingredients etc.

Hahahaha... what the hell? It takes a real pro star to admit something like that, I'm proud of ya.

You know, I was all about the collection until I hit level 20 and found I could crush almost anything. At that point, it felt more like scrounging and I just hauled ass through the rest of the content to get it over with.

Id draw all the residents of Megaton into my house (either chasing them there or making them chase me there) And kill them, then, make a cool little picture with their limbs! I collect people :)

Yeah, but it was a good RPG, and the guy with the puppet was a pretty cool character. Plus the cards weren't hard to find, because lots of strange NPCs (90% of them male) just give them to you... usually talking about their 'secret shame'...

... Plus, each one has a unique picture and a 'like long walks on the beach' type description thing. The thing that wierds me out the most is that you keep them in your inventory after you use them... so if you want to look at them later you can still get the outfits... or something. Ew.

In Fallout 3 I collected stuff that didn't weigh so that I could carry it around.

I only collect useful stuff, and some Abe Lincoln paraphernalia to display at my house. I have so many caps, and nothing to spend it on since next to no one sells .44 magnum rounds for Lincoln's Repeater. I sort of regret specializing in small guns. Also

You remind me so much of Sander Cohen from BioShock.
