This thread has two different topics really.
1) Do you like collector's editions or do you find them to be a waste of money?

2) What is the best/worst CE you know about and/or own.

To me, CE are a fun way to support the game, the franchise and the company that created it. Some of the behind the scene DVDs that are included really are amazing to watch and if they include soundtracks those are also fun to listen to out of game.

The best CE that I own has to Catherines CE that included boxers, a shirt, an artbook, a pillow case and music all in a pizza box. I found that to be a very funny CE and it is nice to see some companies go past the norm of CE (a statue, behind the scene, ect) and try different things out. I am not really sure about the worst CE so I will leave that up to you guys.

Generally speaking I find them to be an enormous waste of money, but if I really love a series I'll go for a Collector's Edition. I've got a few over the years.

Generally dont bother but if its only a little more and I am really looking forward to the game I will get one. Cant really hold any of them up as amazing but if it includes a soundtrack thats usually a nice bonus.

Actually if we discount games I got the collectors edition of Ghost in the Shell Stand alone Complex 2nd GIG which gave me a nice metal case to put all the dvds in and most importantly a natty green T-shirt with the individual 11 logo on. Damn I love wearing that T-shirt although my folks keep trying to make me throw it away, the heathens.

I don't typically buy Collector's Editions. I have no use for most of the stuff they come with. I'll never bother with action figures, art books will have their contents posted online within hours of launch, I'm not the type of person that will ever listen to the soundtracks outside of the game, I don't really have any use for small trinkets like keychains or whatever.

Just not really worth it to me.

Only time I'll spend money on a collector's edition is if I get something in-game that's actually worthwhile for it, and even then, only if it's a series that I'm already a huge fan of from previous installments.

I never had the money to buy them. But now I do when I really like a series or have participated in a Beta and really liked the game. An example would be Diablo III(Even though I did not play the others, I really liked the beta).

At the moment I'm doubting to buy the collectors edition for Guildwars II. It is freaking expensive in our country. 150 euro's, which is almost 200 dolars, is a pretty big investment. If I would get it it would be for the soundtrack and the artbook. The statue does not really concern me, so I guess I will probably skip this edition.

Yeah I totally forgot about special edition DVDs/Blu-Rays. I might actually have to get back into Ghost in the Shell.

Pretty much this. I've bought one or two over there years by generally I don't go for them, just can't justify paying up to double the price of a game just for some nick-knacks.

That said though, I do think they serve a purpose. Collector's Editions are specifically named for their target market: collectors. Some people REALLY love their games, a friend of mine, for instance, has a HUGE nerd-boner for everything Halo. He's got every possible Halo memorabilia there is (included the 3 foot bust of Master Chief). Why? Because he's very passionate about it and wants all the collectables he can get.

Me, I love Mass Effect, I've loved it since the first game. Do I want all the extra crap that comes with the CE? Not really. I'm not a collector, I don't know what I'd do with the extra crap. Doesn't mean there aren't people out there who have shelves for the statuettes and action figure/models and such.

I got the Fallout CE, I used that lunchbox until I graduated high school and got a ton of compliments on it. And I still have the bobble head. The art book was good to but I liked the other stuff better.

I never buy them because they're generally a waste of money. I don't want a rubbish artbook and if I want to hear the soundtrack I can look on youtube.

Love 'em. Spent a twatting fortune importing the God of War III CE the states. And am a sucker for art books. Soul Calibur V, Dark Souls, you name it, if it's got an art book, I want it.

Every time I've bought the CE version of a game, i've been underwhelmed. I picked up the N7 editions for mass effect 3 for both 360 and ps3. First off the ps3 version should have cost less, as it had less stuff in it(xbox avatar stuff, but no PsHome stuff? really bioEA..). Then they shouldn't call their artbook a book when it's smaller than a McDonald's napkin. Then I find out those metal tins are a pain in the backside trying to get the game out without snapping the disk in two.

I missed out on ones I really wanted and ended up being awesome, because I'd pre-order too late or stuff like that.

I have had some luck though, I found the CE version of starcraft 2 for like $20 on clearance, even though the base game at that same store was still full price.

It depends on pricing. If it's only an extra $10-20 bucks, and there's some decent swag, I'll usually spring for the CE. This latest bullshit of charging $150-200, though? Not so much. The plastic dragon statue ain't that cool.

Oh crap, that reminds me. It's 4/10. GW2 Preorder!

That plastic dragon statue may not be cool... but I'm totally for that Rytlock Brimstone figurine :)

I was actually thinking of the Skyrim CE. But yeah, Guild Wars 2 did the same thing. Not even sure what Rytlock is, but a bunch of 1-time use power items? Think I'll pass.

I was hoping for an in-game aura/dance like the CEs for the first three games had. Oh well.

At least now I'm guaranteed beta weekend access!

Only if it's really worth it. The Space Marine one wasn't really worth it; the artbook is small and the soundtrack isn't that flash but at least I have a Purity Seal!

Welp, the ME3 Collectors edition certainly turned out to be a waste of cash, nothing in it was special enough to warrant the extra 20 dollars I spent on it.

I know I had an option to buy the CE of ME3 from Amazon and I instead just bought the game when I picked up Kid Icarus and I loved the game, I do not recall the CE content but I will go look at it somewhere. Wasn't the DLC included somewhat worthwhile? (Do not have it yet)
