College Hazing

What are your thoughts on college hazing? Have you experienced it yourself? Do you think it should be a crime(as it is here)?

I've never had to experience it, and I think the whole concept is kind of stupid, but as long as nobody is seriously hurt I don't have a huge problem with it.

It's pretty much initiation.

It could be good fun like doing something silly or something irresponsible and dangerous. The latter is why it's so frowned upon.

It only works if you let it work? I never got hazed and I have to agree it seemed stupid wehn I saw it. As I don't take shit from people I never had to worry about it, I suppose if it crosses the line it could be a crime. OP I am kinda wondering what your thoughts on it are.

I have never had any hazing happen to me or witnessed any this year at my university, although that usually occurs in fraternities and I am not a part of one.

Edit: Forgot to add that I am okay with it as long as the people being hazed are not physically harmed, but stuff like taping people to a goal post is fine because it is funny and not harmful.

I didn't know about this term. Anyway I think "initiations" suck and it's the domain of grown-up children who should be made to go and stand in the corner. Whether it be a ritual attached to part of a university fraternity, a street gang, a prison gang or just a group of friends, it's still the same chimpanzee part of the brain at work and I have no respect for people who do such things.

I'm probably a little biased, I know a guy who was accidentally killed during a "hazing" prank...

At my school in Canada, we had to do some stupid shit for my residences "initiation". It was optional, but they encouraged us to do it and afterwords I knew why. We had to do some stuff in the dark, push-ups I think, and maybe running some laps around a tarpaulin, and then dive through dog food and fish scales and god knows what. Afterwords, it was great... it really broke all the barriers between the incoming students in that residence. We were all mostly drunk and pretty stupid, and because I hadn't brought my glasses and was blind one of my more attractive dorm mates led me around by the hand. All in all, it was great. No one should be forced into it, but going through the whole ritual thing willfully can be a great experience.

Oh sure there is, like this one time in high school a friend of mine's pop used viagra. He stole some from him and we scraped the v or whatever was on it off and gave it to some of the freshmen on the team. Told 'em it was speed and would help them through practice. Hilarity ensued.

The funny part would be you getting arrested for drug dealing.

It's funnier if someone does get hurt. I mean not seriously, but a few stitches here and there never hurt anyone outside of the initial trauma. If I ever got injured, even only "a couple of stitches" cause of some college jerk playing some prank on me, I know I would not be amused.
