I don't have a problem with it. In my experience, going through the ritual is voluntary. If someone wants to be stupid, I don't see why I ought to stop them.
To an extent, I'd even assert that such a thing is healthy. My University Fencing Team very technically "hazes" new members by assigning brutal workouts for weeks. The goal is to get rid of people who don't really want to be there. I certainly support such activity. For the fraternal organizations however, I find little merit in their actions. Presumably they are done with the same goal in mind, and if nothing else a shared experience in suffering does lead to a certain sense of camaraderie but, by the same token, such hazing is usually arbitrary punishment without any tangible benefit. A brutal workout in a sporting even at least has the effect of increasing one's limits of endurance. I'm not certain if a hot sauce enema has any benefit but I'd be willing to bet it doesn't.
