I'm a colorblind male gamer and combined with an astigmatism, also I'm light sensitive I have some difficulty seeing.

I have killed teammates ALLOT on Halo multiplayer when playing with friends and had no idea why for a while until learning officially that I can't see the colors.

Thats why I can't play halo 3 at all. All the stupid bright colors blind me. No joke. All the outside levels in the grass especially. Try picturing this, the floor glows because its bright green, the covenant glow because they are shiny and the sun is bright and all the grunt run around with either shiny energy weapons that shoot more bright lights and/or bright glowing plasma grenades.

I can't see anything.

Anyone else have a vision problem that gets away of gaming?

BTW, this is kinda why I love ODST. You turn on the visor and your surroundings are outlined and the enemies are all highlighted against a dark enviorment. The visor was like a magic "fix color blindness" button.

Interesting. Haven't thought of bloom and HDR as a source of problems for people that are color-blind. Oh well, just be on the lookout for games with colorblind-mode (which sadly, are rather few).

For the most part, just Halo 3.

Why? Why all the bright colors???

My friend is color blind and can only see certain things when they're about 3 inches from his face (which is odd, since he loves playing sniper in any FPS, and is damn good at it too). It's also completely non-correctable from what he says. It really only affects when he plays games like audiosurf, or when he's trying to look at small lettering in certain games (RPG item stats for instance).

So you would be happy with the amount of bland colourless browny Grey that is in most games then

There are a variety of different types of color-blindness. For me, it's some kind of red/green colorblindness. As far as i know it hasn't affected my gaming. Sometimes I do have a hard time distinguishing teammates from enemies, but it could just be a result of a dark area in the level or something. I can't exactly see the world through the eyes of a person with regular vision so i guess I'll never know.

I'm colourblind myself, and that's probably one of the main reason I don't really play FPS's. On occasion, mostly during LANs, I'll join in with my friends, but I just can't differentiate well enough between friend and foe, or even foe and scenery, so I get killed a lot. Resulting in me playing those games even less and getting my ass handede to me even more due to lack of practice...

I expected this to be a thread complaining about how most FPS seem to be nothing but shades of brown or grey these days. I hate that. Anyway, I imagine you'll enjoy Borderlands too, then. The graphical style there also has a black outline around the brown characters in a brown world.

I have an astigmatism too, but my glasses fix that. Don't yours?

Acctualy yes. In games like that I can snipe from practically the max view distance.

I have trained my eyes to pick up on shadows and movement more than color. I can see better in low color enviorments.

I don't know if this would be helpful to you or not, but there are these screens you can get for your monitor or TV to reduce the shininess of the TV. They look like this.

(I think they are called anti glare screens or something.)

But I wouldn't know where to get them from save your local electronics and computer store.

Yes, but I don't use them outside of the house.

Oh I forgot (edits first post) I think it was kinda implied but, I'm light sensitive on top of that(go figure). This means bright light not only causes allot of difficulty but in real life also physically hurts my eyes.

It never occurred to me how lighting effects tend to affect some gamers, especially those with color deficiencies. I don't envy your position but out of curiosity, are you clinically diagnosed as colourblind?.

OT: No, I gots normal vision.

Get high much?
And yeah, I've got pretty bad short sight, if I take my glasses off, I can't even see what I'm typing right now. Good thing I have them, damn sure. And it helps when playing, that's for sure.

I'll reply, even though it wasn't at me... I hate glasses, with a passion, and since only one eye's bad, contacts are a real pain (to only have in one eye)...

Typically, these are used on CRTs, whose glass screens had a much bigger problem with glare than newer monitors. I used one for the longest time, up until I got my first flat panel.

OT: Have you tried adjusting the brightness/contrast settings on your TV? You might be able to mellow out some of those bloom effects.

I'm color blind but not hardcore at all, red green and then only in a few shades that turn gray to my eyes. but yes i love ODST's visor and sometimes even use it when there is sun and bright lights, just to pick out enemies faster.

The only problem with colour I have is that purple and brown looks the same to me, so it isn't a problem in games.

Try lowering the contrast in your TV to really low settings, though I'm not sure if it will help.
