I don't envy your position but out of curiosity, are you clinically diagnosed as colourblind?

OT: No, I gots normal vision.
Yup, doctor visit and everything. I have a history of issues with it.
Fascinating. I had to study up on color vision deficiencies for an exam and I was blown away at the sheer variations that are present. It certainly doesn't sound like a pleasant experience when intense colours are involved.

At any rate, since you only have this issue with Halo 3 I guess it's not so bad. You have te option where you can add on UV filter screens for the monitor that can greatly cut down on the bloom effects that some games have. In general though you won't have to worry, most modern games seem to follow the greyscale spectrum anyway.

I myself am mildly light sensitive and get mass migraines when i play games for extended periods or time, to add further insult to injury i am in IT...

OT: However, never had to go to a day of sports carnivals and excursions i did not wish to go to...

Back on topic... but yeah, brightness can be a pain, added to the fact i cant read anything without my glasses text and such can be a pain spesh in games with high contrast ratios...

I'm a colorblind male gamer and combined with an astigmatism, also I'm light sensitive I have some difficulty seeing.

I have killed teammates ALLOT on Halo multiplayer when playing with friends and had no idea why for a while until learning officially that I can't see the colors.

Thats why I can't play halo 3 at all. All the stupid bright colors blind me. No joke. All the outside levels in the grass especially. Try picturing this, the floor glows because its bright green, the covenant glow because they are shiny and the sun is bright and all the grunt run around with either shiny energy weapons that shoot more bright lights and/or bright glowing plasma grenades.

I can't see anything.

Anyone else have a vision problem that gets away of gaming?

BTW, this is kinda why I love ODST. You turn on the visor and your surroundings are outlined and the enemies are all highlighted against a dark enviorment. The visor was like a magic "fix color blindness" button.
I can definitely advise Quake Live for this. It allows you to pick a custom model and color for your enemies, and for your teammates.

Could you adjust your TV? Turn down the brightness, contrast and such to make the games more playable?

GH and the like aren't really that big a problem (for me at least) since the buttons are in the same set order on the screen as they are on the controller. And in my case the only two GH colours I can't differentiate between are yellow and green.

Like the OP I mostly react to movement in FPS's, making me a really nice target for snipers/campers since as long as they stay put I won't see them.

Shit man, that sounds pretty bad. I couldnt honestly imagine your color blindness thing. I am short sighted and I need glasses but I can game pretty good...as long as the brightness is turned up a weeny bit.

I have partial colourblindness, thus colour coded games, like Puzzlers, prove frustrating time and again.

Mostly my problems is with the spectrum from pink to purple to blue, but there are other exceptions. For example, I can't play Puzzle Fighter: Their Green is so light in colour I confuse it with yellow.

Some games give their pieces patterns and such, but not nearly enough. Games where colour is important to strategy should consider options like patterns more often.

I'm colourblind in my right eye which can get plenty confusing in games that move fast and depend on colour e.g Mirrors Edge!

get a pc and turn off bloom effects :p
Except Halo 3 isn't on PC....
Anyways, nope no color problems making me go blind. However I think all the squinting I have to do to read text meant for HD televisions will make me go blind.
I like how peggle has a color blind mode you can pick though, very thoughtful of them.

I'm not colour blind, but I still love this feature. So useful.

Oh I know what you mean, I've got an old CRT tv that I use, and Dead Rising just kills my eyes sometimes. I really hope they fix that in Dead Rising 2, it was a main annoyance of mine because I really like the rest of the game.

Red/green color blind, baby!

There are only a few games that trouble me. Casual puzzle games in which you must match colored items are a real pain. And games like Modern Warfare where you have maps with little color variation besides hues of green (Downpour specifically) make me lose track of friend and foe.

That's why I prefer games where you can turn off teamkilling.

I'm also mildly colour blind in red/green.

Its really only causes a problem in a few games, otherwise its ok.

But I still feel your pain, must be annoying as hell.

I can barely see out of my left eye which makes it nearly impossible when aiming a gun to get a good shot in (I'm left handed) but that doesn't have anything to do with gaming.

I've got a friend that has a similar problem, he has a really hard time telling green and gray apart from each other. For most games it isn't a problem but when it comes to fighters its always a pain for him if someone picks the same character and it just so happens that the costume colors just so happen to be those colors. Capcom is especially bad about it - I'm looking at you, MVC2.

My TV broke down a week ago, and when I connected my xbox to the spare TV I keep in the attic, I discovered that it wouldn´t show any colors. That was one of the most annoying gaming sessions I have ever gone through. I can´t imagine how it must be like for you having to play all games like that.
