Okay so me and my friends went into town the other day and were walking around for ages going to different stores, then my friend asked me were I wanted to go. I quickly said the comic book store to her. She said okay the rest laughed, Anyone else have problems telling this stuff to friends who are kinda assholes.

meh, any one really who takes the label "geek" or "nerd" as an insult is an anti-intellectual, so really they just become scum bags themselves

I don't take it as insult its just that some of my friends are judge mental douche bags.

Nope. All of my friends are as nerdy as I am. We will happily sit in forbidden planet and read for an hour or do something equally nerdy. Nerds=awesome

Not related to comic books, but people don't like hearing about my gaming.

I stopped giving a shit about people calling me a 'nerd' ages ago, however. It's just who I am. I also like to rub this in said people's faces to gain the moral high ground :DDDDDDD

People never quite know how to react when i tell them my plans for weekends off.
Going to a comic book convention, a Fantasy themed festival etc.
But they dig my videogaming and comic book knowledge.
Not the Kirk imitations though......

Fascinating

I only have one half-nerdy friend and one who plays WoW and is into physics and chemistry. Apart from that I can't do any nerdy things with them anyway and have to do it alone, so my only problem is a lack of decent geekfriends to accompany me.

I tell my friends I read comics. I don't give a shit, and honestly I haven't met many that give a shit much either. The rise in superhero movies means this decade is the best for comic book fans.

Don't worry, when you get older such things are considered introspective/ironic/endearing and generally considered cool. Any girl who shuns you now will be your wench by 22

I can relate but it extends to more than just comics for me. I always seem to fall into a group of people that mocks whatever I like...so I then immediately exaggerate that trait until it annoys them into acceptance or them getting lost.

For example, senior year of high school I watched the Dark Crystal for the first time and said I enjoyed it. Everyone in my German class thought I was a dork...so I spent the rest of the hour and a half class quoting the movie. Specifically the "Trial by Stoooone!" scene.

So in short, not just my friends are like that but everyone I run into. I'm unlucky that way but hey, I have fun with it so whatevs.

Pfft! Whatever. These same people are probably geeking over the Iron Man movie and privately wish they were as awesome as Wolverine.

I don't read comic books for the approval of other people, so I could care less if they think it's dorky. If my friends made fun of anything I did, I'd just ignore them completely. Take the girl with you to the comic store and tell your buddies they can go to the shoe store or something.

Come to think about it, the girl said okay.
When you asked her to come along with you TO A COMIC BOOKSTORE.
Just saying, that is:

a) awesome
b) rare
c) you get girl, why you care what stupid friends think?, Hulk smash!
