Most of the people I hang out with have different "nerdy things" about them. I'm the biggest anime fan of the group, and I get jokes on me all of the time for that. One of my friends is really into computer first person shooters, and another one is into MMORPGs. He starts a new MMO, like, every week. Another friend is really into Stan Lee - she's great.

Nope. All of my friends are as nerdy as I am. We will happily sit in forbidden planet and read for an hour or do something equally nerdy. Nerds=awesome
Off topic: Do you by any chance live in Bristol?

Being called a nerd is amusing because you can always respond with "So, you're admitting I'm smarter than you?". They are clearly closed minded morons for assuming that since they're not a fan of it, it must be a stupid thing.

No, actually, I have not.

But than again, I keep pretty god company.
You keep God company?

I bet he really appreciates it. He must get lonely, being the Supreme Creator and all.

OT: I'm not really a nerd (if you don't count wearing glasses as a nerdy attribute), and all my friends are, so I never get comments like that.

Comic books have the social status that video games had a few years back (at least from where I stand). In the company I usually hang around you don't talk about it unless you're absolutely positive the other part won't judge you for it, and even then, we keep it quiet.

Of course there are different levels of shame. I have a friend with whom I tend to discuss Alan Moore novels on occasion, but we don't go near the nerdier kinds of comic books unless we're really drunk.

Once I was reading a issue of batman R.I.P. during a lesson where we had to go to the library because our teacher was away.
Anyway the class "jock" went up to me and started making fun of me reading comic books.
I then shoved the page where batman is wearing purple, yellow and some other colours in his face and shouted at him about how even though batman was wearing "gay-ass" colours he was still more of a man than the jock would have ever been, then I told him to fuck of back to his pre-pubescent girl-friend.

That was a good day.

my mates are all in to metal, as am i. however, i got well and truly scorned when i revealed that i quite like the 1st Maroon 5 album. needless to say...i never drew attention to that fact again. and there's nothing wrong with that album, not a bad track on it.

Ah, its just that the only forbidden planet I am aware of is in Bristol.
Still England though (I think)
