Basically. If it is that, I'm more bothered by Morrison using GD instead of saying it. Which is why I take it as a grunt, which implies this man searches for offense to his religion in any tiny area he can find it.

If this is true, Morrison, don't start using OMG WTF or anything. That would be terrible....

Honestly what bothered me about Action Comics 1 was Superman's glowing red eyes.

Christians need to lighten the fuck up, I grew up in a Christian household and still attend
church (granted I attend somewhat infrequently) But I still believe in the teaching and faith as well as try my hardest to live by something that resemble a moral code.

But MY GOD I'm so sick of every other week hearing about some new controversy that's got some of my more poorly educated brothers in faith up in arms. And its always the stupidest shit: Its implied that Superman used GD as an sigh of being in pain, Nerds like comics!?! clearly this is heresy, we must protest. I'm just so sick of it.

Yeah it kind of just makes the original story even more bizarre...how is he even running a comic book shop without being offended like this every single day.

Maybe he slips Chick Tracts into the issues so the kids discover them? I don't know.

I mean, comics strike me as harmless escapist fantasy and serial storytelling, but I'm not the one listening to records backwards for SATAN either.

I can see Christians being fine with owning a comic book shop, but I can't see anyone who is that fundamentalist doing it. Or anyone who is opposed to a "liberal" agenda. I mean, there are liberal Christians, too, unless he's applying the "No True Scotsman" fallacy (which would be funny, since he even named Morrison as a Scot).

And while I haven't regularly followed comics in years (Never outgrew them, just my other hobbies like music are REALLY expensive and time consuming), I have to wonder how he handled things like One More Day (Spider-Man makes a deal with Mephisto, the in-universe devil, which is out of character like he claims this slur is for Supes) or Civil War (Which seemed to have a pretty hardcore liberal bias). There are far worse comics out there.

And yeah, boycotting ALL Morrison comics for one panel. WOW.

I just....I don't know why this set him off so much.

The issue essentially establishes that not only is this him at the very start of his career as Superman, but he's much less powerful. He ends up walking away from that fight fairly bruised and beaten up.

But that's kind of beside the point. Morrison isn't the sort of writer who would shy away from simply writing god, or goddamn. And his current portrayal of this young Superman leads me to believe that Superman wouldn't have any problem saying it after getting shot by a tank either. Which leads me to believe this was nothing more than a grunt as he got hit by an exploding tank shell.

So basically, this guy is getting upset over nothing.

(Edit: To be fair, it's pretty obvious why he got God out of Gd - it's a very, very common way of writing it to avoid offending people who think it's inappropriate to write down any name for God.)

There is one way to react this, ignore him and anyone with common sense shouldn't use his stores (PS: this is not a call to boycott) then he realises there is such thing as bad publicity and gives up on this stunt.

As some people may know, DC as just recently relaunched all their books at #1, including the longest running comic book ever Action Comics. Written by Grant Morrison this new interpritation of Superman is much closer to bolder, working mans hero, super jerk of his 1938 dabute, but that's not what's got this comic book guy rialed up.

The funniest thing about it is Superman doesn't say "God". He says "GD" after being shot at by a tank. It could have just as easily been a grunt.

Well to be fair, this comic is actually set in Superman early days and all his powers arn't developed yet. He can't even fly yet. So when a tank shoots him he definitly feels it.

I mean the issue ends with him trying to stop a high speed train and he get's knocked the fuck out.

I love how calmly you can say that.
It's like being shot by a tank is one of those little annoyances that Superman has to put up with, like sleeping through his alarm clock and being late for work.

OT: I didn't even people got pissed off by others saying "God!" I thought taking the lords name in vain was for saying stuff like "Jesus tap-dancing christ!" I could understand that being offensive to christians. But surely "Oh my God" or whatever is just one of those stock phrases that everyone says these days...

Well, it's obvious this guy doesn't go to movies, read most anything written in the last century, go online, and he runs a comic shop? How the hell does he stay in business if he gets "offended" for two capital letters on a dialogue box? What got him into this line of work anyways? And why is it that people care whether it's said or not?If you get that offended by a word, how do you even function in regular society anymore, because I don't know about you but it's a rare day when I DON'T hear something along these lines on the street.And sorry if I hurt your egos reli's when I say this, but i don't think your god really gives that much of a shit what you say about him, if the guy even listens that much at all anyways. I'm imagining what this comic store looks like, I see huge white shelves with nothing on them, and in the back, four issues of a christian comic book published in the 50's and I also see a sign on the door that says; "Going out of Business".
