I'm currently in the middle of re-reading "Transmetropolitan" by Warren Ellis. Anyone who isn't familiar with this comic is hereby advised to remedy the situation ASAP.
The story takes place at an unspecified point in the future. Because of a forgotten contract with his publisher, retired gonzo journalist Spider Jerusalem is forced to produce two more books before he can resume his beloved hermit lifestyle. In order to accomplish this, Spider must return to the City: A gargantuan metropolis he hates with a passion.
His professional integrity prevents him from just churning out random garbage until he has technically fulfilled his contract, and so he sets off in hot pursuit of the Truth - an increasingly rare and precious commodity in a futuristic world where every last one of society's troubles, including hypocrisy, racism, poverty, sexual perversion, misguided rebellion, corruption, political extremes and so on, has evolved to monstrous proportions.
