Command & Conquer 4 Taking Cues From MMOGs?

The next Command & Conquer game might feature some MMOG-style gameplay, according to an EA survey that proposes ideas for Command & Conquer 4.

Command & Conquer might be following in the footsteps of fellow RTS franchises like Relic's Dawn of War by implementing heavy RPG elements into its gameplay formula. In a survey designed to gauge fan interest in the future of the C&C franchise, EA provides a hypothetical description of Command and Conquer 4:

"Command & Conquer 4 allows C&C fans to finally experience the epic conclusion to the 15-year Tiberium saga with innovative RPG-like player progression, persistent in both single player and Multiplayer modes, co-op play, and new stylized, live-action cinematics."

C&C4, the survey states, will be "the first RTS game with MMORPG like player progression in which you are rewarded every time you play." Whenever you kill a unit in any mode, you'll receive experience points that will allow you to level up abilities, unlock new units, powers and upgrades. Adding to the MMOG-esque nature of the game would be the inclusion of player classes, which EA calls a "new challenge for C&C and RTS players to master."

Other hypothetical qualities the survey proposes C&C4 might take on include the return of co-op, 5 on 5 multiplayer online, "the first mobile base in RTS games," and an all-new story by a new team of writers that uses "grittier, stylized FMVs" that will take after Tom Cruise sci-fi flick Minority Report.

If you do or don't like the idea of your RPGs mixing with your RTSes, head over here [http://epidm.edgesuite.net/CMS/ElectronicArts/Westwood/2009/120885/cc.html] and take the survey for yourself and let EA know what you think. The company, despite the presence of an EA logo on the survey page, was unwilling to confirm the existence of C&C4.

Or making it seem like it anyway...

Heavy RPG Elements? NO.

The FMV's taking after Minority Report? NO.

I'm going on to that survey and saying NO to a lot by the looks of it.

Please for the love of all that is good in the world, Make another Renegade/Finish Tiberium.

Hmm I actually don't mind the idea... Of course I'm not prepared to grind 24/7 just to get a +5 Phaser of Pwning....

Ever heard of Warcraft 3?

This has been done before, and well. It doesn't have to be awful...

Also, doesn't "MMOG Elements" just mean a persistent online world? It doesn't have to have XP and character classes to do that, just an army that you take into every battle that you can upgrade after every fight...

Why not? I support it, might turn out to be really good. God forbid we allow people to try to make something new. People complain that developers never make anything new anymore, and yet, when someone takes the initiative to actually try to make anything new, they're met with avalanches of complaints.

They did it. They made it possible to grind in an RTS. Granted that might not be it, but that's the feel I got from this. It might actually be good for Turtlers like me though.
I look foward to zerg rushing you and seeing how much your levels help you then.

Command & Conquer should have died with Westwood.
Unfortunately yes 3 was crap and Red alert 3 I don't want to talk about it.
Tiberium wars was good. Red alert 3 on the other hand made me want to claw out my eyes.

What the hell is with that survey? It is on a co.uk website, but asks me which state I live in.

Well, MMORTS games are few and far between, so it might be interesting to try. It won't be to everyone's taste, I assure you, but if it's not as good as the old games, we can all play the old games.

Im probably going to make myself very unpopular for saying this but, I think this sounds pretty damn good.
I wouldnt mind getting XP to rank up from Officer to Commander throughout the campaign.

Although messing with an established formula set by a respected developer, especially a formula that the majority of the fan base has become accustomed to, is rarely a wise move.
