Well Escapists I'm here to ask. Do any of you follow some kind of common courtesy? One of the things I do is flash my lights to anyone passing when I've passed a cop waiting for speeders so they slow down(all of you should do this)so share Escapees what do you do.

I didn't notice this until last week, but a friend of mine pointed out i say thanks or cheers to anything.

Like a car stopped for me so i could pass. I gave him a wave and said "cheers" and my friend pointed out, "He cant hear you know, you may aswell be calling him a ****" lol

I let strangers walk all over me - holding doors for dozens of people at a time, surrendering the last whatever in a shop, that sort of thing.

Just as long as people I've never met don't think less of me, everything is okay!

I'll hold open the occasional door and respond politely if spoken to, but I generally mind my own business.

Likewise. But hey, I'm gonna be polite, dammit!

Also door holding at that awkward point where the person is too far away for normal walking pace to get them to a door comfortably within a non-weird time zone, but close enough that if you let go of the door it will close in their face.

Please and thank you. My friends have asked me on a few occasions why I wave at oncoming cars when I'm crossing the road. I think it's a sort of "Thank you for not running me over."

Hell no I shouldn't. If they don't want to get a speeding ticket, they should try not speeding. It's what I do, and it's worked 100% of the time without ever having to worry about the police.

Common courtesy is things like holding a door open for someone who has their hands full, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze (followed by promptly washing your hands before touching something that other people have to touch or use), and other such things. Not preventing speeders from getting what's coming to them.

I do lots of things that are common courtesy.. I generally try to treat others as I want to be treated.

However, your example isn't courtesy.. its letting a dangerous, criminal, driver get away with it.

People behind me have never, ever had to open a door. No exceptions.

I mostly hold the door for people (depends how big of a rush I'm in), and I tend to say please and thankyou to people.

I generally go out of my way to be bizarrely nice. On more than one occasion I've rolled down my window to shout to someone in a neighboring car that their gas cap is still open. If someone is short by a dollar or something, I offer to pitch in, too. I also hold open doors for people, offer to help people with their groceries, and pretty much just do whatever I can to help.

I just like the fuzzy feeling of helping someone out :3 And it helps to balance out my excessive road rage karma >_> As well as my generally dickish personality.

I'll hold Doors open for people, say "please" and "thank you", be polite to Customers on the phone at work.

I have been brought up to be polite, and I get a nice feeling knowing i've made someone smile or done something nice, respectful and polite for them.

Well, I become very polite when I'm nerves (and I start to speak a bit old-fashion too :/)

Other than that I just try and make people happy.

"OH GOD I'M SORRY!" Me internally when I wrong anybody. Externally, I say "Oh! sorry!"

If you sneeze within the same room as me, I will say "Bless you!" This gets awkward during allergy season at my church, especially when it's mid-sermon or mid-choral anthem.

"Thanks!"

Also, I hold doors for everyone. Everyone.

Also, I call everyone Sir or Ma'am. Even when they're younger than me.

I guess that's what I get for growing up in the South.

Usually, I'm quite curteous when I'm not in a rush. I help people out if they need a dollar or so, and I keep the door open for people. If I'm at a stop, i let the car cross before walking past. But woe betide if you're in my way at school and I'm in a rush

General good manners. Please, thank you, "bless you," holding doors open (especially the elevator), that sort of thing. It's a small enough thing, but it says a lot about you to others.

I'm generally polite regardless of context. However, one thing that people notice about me is that I apologise a bit too much... even for other people's fuck-ups.
