Me and two friends are still new to the game and we usually make lobbies called "Newbies only", and 90% of the people who join are either a) people with 300+ games or b) smurfs who hide behind a new account but who have played 300+ games. So much for newbies only.

Also, a lot of people, when losing, will use a stupid drop hack to make everyone's games crash. They must figure, if they can't win, no one can.

World of Warcraft. I once got made fun of by a 12 year old for not having 10.000 gold like him after apparently asking too much for an item I was selling. I was being polite about to him too. I uninstalled the game.

Starcraft 2, I liked the original Starcraft and I got into the beta, then I realized that everybody who plays starcraft multiplayer is a douchebag with no grasp on the concept of good sportmanship, then I stopped playing. I never bought the game, thanks for saving me 60 euro, Blizz!

And now we wait for the flames to roll in.

I don't play games online, but from what I can tell just from visiting the Escapist here and hearing people whine, I think the same could be said about EVERY FUCKING GAME THAT HAS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER.
...Hence why I don't play games online. Also that's hardly Blizzards fault.

You have a point, but in my opinion none is worse than the starcraft 2 multiplayer. Look at CoD, You have fratdicks and angry thirteen year olds playing along with nerds and such. Annoying, but tolerable, while starcraft 2's multiplayer base is made up entirely of nerds being dickheads.
One time during the beta, I had an opponent leave the game because I couldn't tell him how many "operations per second" I could do, It was my second game.

And that's my beef with online strategy games, it's not long before the "strategy" part of the game goes out of the window and into the ground, instead you have 'how fast you can execute the first order optimal strategy*' matches.

Oh, and I wasn't blaming Blizzard, I was thanking them for giving me the insight not to buy a game for nerds with self-diagnosed "mental issues".

EDIT: it comes to my attention that you may not entirely understand that I'm using the word "nerd" as a broad term for people who like things that aren't sociable, like myself. I'm not using it negatively or to insult anyone, its just what I call us.

*WOAH, mix up of terms there, I actually meant the first order optimal strategy, basicly the easiest method of winning or getting by in a game.

So, I don't know how, but a friend on PSN and I got into a talk about MW2, and I brought up an interesting point, MW2 could have been the best Call of Duty, ever! But, the community, the ones that use the OMA noobtubes, campers, all that, is what ruined it. So, thanks to the community, MW2 MP turned out to be really mediocre.
What can the escapist think of?

campers dont ruin anything. people who complain about campers are what ruin things. campers are easy to kill since they are staying in the same spot.

I played MW2 on pc and i didnt really notice to many issues with it. people camped and used noob tubes but it didnt really affect anything. appart from all the bitches complaining about the campers and noob tubers instead of just playing the game.

people just need to play the games and get some skill. If you get killed by a noob tuber does it really matter?

i cant think of any community that ruins a game. cause the community normally has no power over the players. and its normally the minority that ruin things for people so its easy to avoid them.

Most communities have a very loud very obnoxious minority. This small portion ruins the image of the rest of the community. Every now and then I run into nice people on MW2, but more often then not I see a lot of "Fag, noob, hax, etc.". It's rather depressing.
I try and do my little bit to educate these people but it's not worth it. I start every game with "glhf", compliment people on sweet kills and end with a "gg". Every now and then I get pissed off and rage at these retards with their constant whining and bitching and generally disrespectful behaviour.
I run with a CoD clan at the moment, I'm sort of a regular, despite having other priorities lately. They're really nice guys and you don't find any of this "1337" rubbish, it's a shame the whole community isn't like it.

Noob-tubers are really annoying on MW2, as well as campers on Black Ops. But team killers take the prize. On one of the hardcore TDM's I was playing, a person on my team was killing everyone on his team. Now the retarded part is the server couldn't kick him out because he was host, so he just kept doing it. But despite all these asses, some of the matches you play and people you meet, make it all worth it. And most everyone here agrees, otherwise you wouldn't play online anymore.
