I don't know a whole lot about premade gaming computers, I have always made my own, though its been quite a while since I have done so. I have heard good things about IBUYPOWER, and their premade kits can skip the monitor if you are looking to save some green. But I have only heard good things, I have never tried their stuff out.

Get a custom job. You can save a decent ammount of money and trick the thing out like crayzay.

Enjoy :]
Yeah, Eggo is the resident authority on computers in these parts- I'd go with what he has to say.

You need a computer with the following: A big hard drive(180 and +), lots and lots of ram (2-3gigs), a good video card, a good sound card, and if it's a laptop get a 17' screen.

If money isn't too big of a deal, Alienware makes top notch rigs.

Agreed.

Alienware does make some good stuff, but you could custom-build your own pc for less than half of the price of an Alienware and it would still be equally good, if not better.

Alienware is just a big name, even though many uninformed people think is the god of all computer makers.

Alienware has horrible customer relations and technical support, too. Not worth the bother, is it?

Nope.

Plus, it's much more fun to custom build one's own computer.

I'm sorry, Aries- I'm rather new to the Escapist and that thread was before my time.

Still, I do acknowledge you as another authority on the pc.

I have a question: 64 bit OS, or 32 bit Os? I've got an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ along with 4 gigs of RAM and 2 8800GTXs by nVidia......

Should I sacrifice compatibility to gain faster operations and more RAM recognition?

Not really. Many people will swear by 64, but if the ram recognition is hardly worth the loss in compatibilty. And faster operation varies on the program.

Over all I'd say, don't do 64 unless your tech savvy.

What loss of compatibility?
Anything that had trouble with dual cores is going to have trouble with quad cores. Most of the time it'll just require affinity to be set, but I can see some nasty complication.

Wait, what does that have to do with 64-bit?

Anyway, anything having trouble with dual cores (can you actually name any software?) is going to have an equal amount of trouble with quad cores; not more or less.
I forgot we were talking about OS.

64 bit is a more complicated architecture than 32, and many operations are gonna have some problems.
