Yeah, Eggo is the resident authority on computers in these parts- I'd go with what he has to say.Eggo said:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.71279

That's where all my money went from my last job. CURSE YOU NEW TECHNOLOGY!axia777 said:www.newegg.com Have fun.
No ofense but for the money you would spend I will PWN Alienware up and down the block like a little *****.spazzattack said:You need a computer with the following: A big hard drive(180 and +), lots and lots of ram (2-3gigs), a good video card, a good sound card, and if it's a laptop get a 17' screen.
If money isn't too big of a deal, Alienware makes top notch rigs.
Agreed.axia777 said:No ofense but for the money you would spend I will PWN Alienware up and down the block like a little *****.spazzattack said:You need a computer with the following: A big hard drive(180 and +), lots and lots of ram (2-3gigs), a good video card, a good sound card, and if it's a laptop get a 17' screen.

Alienware has horrible customer relations and technical support, too. Not worth the bother, is it?Jamanticus said:Agreed.axia777 said:No ofense but for the money you would spend I will PWN Alienware up and down the block like a little *****.spazzattack said:You need a computer with the following: A big hard drive(180 and +), lots and lots of ram (2-3gigs), a good video card, a good sound card, and if it's a laptop get a 17' screen.

Alienware does make some good stuff, but you could custom-build your own pc for less than half of the price of an Alienware and it would still be equally good, if not better.
Alienware is just a big name, even though many uninformed people think is the god of all computer makers.
Nope.Arkfeller said:Alienware have horrible customer relations and technical support, too. Not worth the bother, is it?
Hells to the yes brother. Till your MoBo comes DOA twice in a row. SCREW YOU ABIT!!!!Jamanticus said:Nope.Arkfeller said:Alienware have horrible customer relations and technical support, too. Not worth the bother, is it?
Plus, it's much more fun to custom build one's own computer.
WTF!? Does no one remember Aries' PC Quote Thread?Jamanticus said:Yeah, Eggo is the resident authority on computers in these parts- I'd go with what he has to say.Eggo said:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.71279

I'm sorry, Aries- I'm rather new to the Escapist and that thread was before my time.Aries_Split said:WTF!? Does no one remember Aries' PC Quote Thread?
I was super popular...
It's cool, the threads gone now anyway.Jamanticus said:I'm sorry, Aries- I'm rather new to the Escapist and that thread was before my time.Aries_Split said:WTF!? Does no one remember Aries' PC Quote Thread?

Still, I do acknowledge you as another authority on the pc.
I have a question: 64 bit OS, or 32 bit Os? I've got an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ along with 4 gigs of RAM and 2 8800GTXs by nVidia......Aries_Split said:It's cool, the threads gone now anyway.
Not really. Many people will swear by 64, but if the ram recognition is hardly worth the loss in compatibilty. And faster operation varies on the program.Jamanticus said:I have a question: 64 bit OS, or 32 bit Os? Should I sacrifice compatibility to gain faster operations and more RAM recognition?
This is all very true.Aries_Split said:Not really. Many people will swear by 64, but if the ram recognition is hardly worth the loss in compatibilty. Over all I'd say, don't do 64 unless your tech savvy.
Anything that had trouble with dual cores is going to have trouble with quad cores. Most of the time it'll just require affinity to be set, but I can see some nasty complication.Eggo said:What loss of compatibility?Aries_Split said:Not really. I forgot we were talking about OS.Eggo said:Wait, what does that have to do with 64-bit?Aries_Split said:Anything that had trouble with dual cores is going to have trouble with quad cores. Most of the time it'll just require affinity to be set, but I can see some nasty complication.
Anyway, anything having trouble with dual cores (can you actually name any software?) is going to have an equal amount of trouble with quad cores; not more or less.
