Current specs -

Desktop -
1.6 Ghz (actual speed) Sempron - usually overclocked to 2.0 Ghz
256 Mb AGP graphics card
512 Mb RAM
80 Gb HDD

Games - none

Laptop -
1.8 Ghz Celeron
1 Gb RAM
60 Gb HDD

i suppose. but of course what is Top of the line for you? i mean some people prefer nvidia some ATI.
some prefer a Intel over a AMD. so it may be top of the line but everyone has different kinds of top of the line :)

Point. TBH i'm not all that crazy for this whole socket 2000000 69-core nuclear power plant thing. Sometimes i miss my old IC7 and my Hyper Threating 3 ghz Prescott. Things were a lot more simple back then.

Well my dream PC is pretty much top of the line stuff right now but what I have atm according to dxdiag is this:
Operating System: Windows Vista? Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
System Model: NF66
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1273MB used, 3059MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
Hard drive is something something 300Gb, gonna install another 300Gb sometime soon when I get round to it.
I'm pretty happy with it as it is right now, could do with a little tweaking but it runs anything that I want it to.

Cost me a little over £400, not including mouse, monitor, keyboard etc.

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.4GHz
Memory: 4096MB OCZ DDR2-800
Hard Drive: 1x 1TB Samsung + 1x 500GB Samsung + 1x 250GB Western Digital (all 7200RPM SATA)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
Monitor: Iiyama 1280x1024 19"
Sound Card: X-Fi Gamer
Keyboard: Logitech Wave
Mouse: Logitech MX1000 + Razer DiamondBack
OS: Windows Vista 32bit + Ubuntu
Motherboard: Asus P5B deluxe
PSU: Coolermaster 700W
Computer Case: Antec Sonata II with the side panel and front door broken off.

First priority is a new case: something with plenty of room, but not full of windows and shiny lights. Something with a bit of class. Any recommendations welcome.

Then a new graphics card and monitor. Already picked out a 24" Samsung 1920x1080, but not sure of the card yet. I've been impressed with the ATI 4850, but I generally prefer NVidia, so I might go for a GeForce 260.

I'd love an excuse to pick up an i7, but they're pretty pricey, when you take the motherboard and memory in to account, and if I'm being honest, the old Core 2 Duo is still handling everything I throw at it pretty well.
