They're all the same nowadays. Lowest common denominator and such.
actually I'd say its because Dreamworks has actually gotten GOOD in the past few years... and in this case the subject matter is slightly more traditional for PIXAR

I like Antz better than a bugs life...

but that was way back when

when I first hear about Kung Fu panda I thought "oh great..jack blacks a panda..fucking hilarious" however when I watched the thing I found that it was an awesome martial arts movie which was obviously well made with effort and some really beautiful moments

how to train your dragon had none of the annoying things associated with Dream works movies like stupid pop culture references, and it was good

Haven't seen mega mind but apparently that's pretty good too

You too, eh?

I love the way Brave looks and what it appears to be thus far. Actually, I wouldn't say I hate all other Pixar movies. Or that this is the first Pixar film I'm interested in. I love Finding Nemo. But this looks like the most promising Pixar film thus far.

As a fan of RPGs and fantasy fiction, Brave is right up my alley. I'm certainly not a violence nut, but it is refreshing to see a "warrior" theme, come out of Pixar. Being films primarily directed at children(much like My Little Pony and animation in general, sadly), you cannot expect much violence out of them. And luckily, you also can't expect much pointless violence for the sake of violence exploitation flick crud either, luckily. It's a good tradeoff. Then there is, of course, a strong, female protagonist like I've been dying for more of film forever. Oh, and I love Celtic culture, too.

I think they're going to handle this really intelligently. And for the first time ever, I'm super hyped up for a Pixar film. It might actually drag me out to the theater.

To be quite honest, when I first saw the trailer I thought it was a Dreamworks film. I was quite shocked to find out that it was actually a Pixar film. That's not to say it looked bad, though; just that it lacked that iconic Pixar style.

Just not my thing, it seems. I'm more into movies like Antichrist, Jacob's Ladder, Resovoir Dogs, Martyrs--more sort of serious films that involve a lot of thinking. I guess I'm too uptight to enjoy a bit of a fun, kiddy flick :p

wait...what?

why are you bringing oranges into a conversation about apples?

and "kiddy flick" <- imply s lack of quality or emotion...I believe you are quite wrong there, but if animated films aren't your thing then...I don't know what to say

I'm not really comparing them, just saying the latter are more up my tree--like someone would say they prefer country music to rock.

By kiddy I just mean, made primarily for children. It doesn't say anything of the quality.

I can't say, but if they maintain Pixar quality, then they can only go uphill from Cars 2.

While admittedly an older film, I believe you forgot this one.

The setting, the look, the source material for the story all seem good so for, it's the main protagonist that bugs me independent women in a mans world just seems like a tired story I'm hoping that whole fight for her hand crap ends in the first act and most the movie is her traveling fantasy forests with her horse and bear.

That animation style really bugs me and it's quite popular. I can't explain why, but it's just so... old story book like, you know?

I'm actually looking forward to this one, even if it doesn't wind up being a masterpiece it'll be nice for young girls to have a strong female protagonist to look up to, instead of the regular princesses and damsels and such.

They have Tangled for that, and Shrek and Mulan

Princess Fiona was so insecure about the way she looked that she felt the need to whore herself out to the first guy that came into her tower to rescue her, Until Shrek came along and taught her about accepting who you are. (I may be a little fuzzy on the details, haven't seen Shrek in a while)

Rapunzel had to wait for the thief (Can't remember his name) to come to her castle and escort her across the land, because she couldn't do it on her own. She managed to convince him to do so through deceit and trickery.

They were both princess's and damsels

Mulan was actually a good point but that came out almost 15 years ago, didn't even think of it until you mentioned it.

Huh. I assumed the "joke" was "A girl fights for her right to be who she wants to be in a man's world, but the one oppressing her is a woman! *gasp*"

Yea, can't say this movie has me very excited. But it isn't like Pixar can do no wrong like some people seem to think about them. When they're bad, they're meh, and when they're good, they're REALLY good. Dreamworks is getting to be the same way, though right now their only "meh" movies recently have been the Madagascar sequels.

Good lord, did I misread.

Well needless to say, the person I'm quoting is not a "you too, eh?". Considering that Brave is the first time I've been interested in a Pixar film in years. While the person I am quoting, appears to only disinterested in this one. We're opposites.

what do you mean by that?.."we shouldn't make too many movies with female protagonists?"

then gain mabye less movies where "IM A GIRL AND I'M BEING OPRESSED" is such a big deal/drving plot point

on the OTHER hand, why not? I like that theme
