Yup, Folks! It's official! Here comes the ass-kickin, one-liner, murder-doll chucky! in a brand new re-make! Now, like a proabable most of you, HATE re-makes. Re-makes have ruined a lot of franchises but i can see that this might actually please my senses... If it wasn't enough for you ladies, they're even gonna use animatronics instead of CG, classy much?
Well here's a resource for ya'll:

Well, isn't this just awesome? A remake for a mediocre horror movie from the 80s, just what I was always hoping for!

Oh, come now, Chucky is a legend.
Besides the child's play series is far better than any horror movie you'll find from the past 5 years!

There's a reason why I stopped watching horror movies, and you hit it right on the head. The horror genre as a whole has sucked for around a decade now. The only fairly recent horror movie I can think of that was any good was the Halloween remake.

First a Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, then a Halloween remake, and now this?
*sigh*
This is probably gonna suck, but I'll save my hatred for the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St., and Hellraiser remakes.

Umm...why? They -already- had a modern one: Seed of Chucky. Which was crap. Granted, 2004 isn't -that- recent, but still.

As for the first one, it did what it did, was pretty entertaining and scary, if not terrifying movie, actually I laughed out loud more times than I got jumps. But, they really should have stopped there.

Halloween - Remade
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Remade
Friday the 13th - Remake In Progress
Hellraiser - Remake In Progress
Child's Play - Remake in Progress
Pumpkinhead - Nothing
Nightmare on Elmstreet - Nothing
Poltergeist - Nothing
Evil Dead - Nothing
"Living Dead" Series - Nothing

Yays, remake central.
I thank god they they are leaving the Evil Deads alone, even thought the second one was technically a remake I think. There is not way to improve further on those films.

Why remake Friday The 13th!? I bet they'll have Jason as the killer with the hockey mask and machete in it as well, and completely mess it up.

Not to mention all of the previous zombie movie remakes.

I really loved the first two Child's Play movies, the third was ok.
im really not a big fan of remakes, they tend to completely miss the point of the original.
Hopefully this will live up to the name of Chucky.

As many regulars will know by now, my usual response to a remake thread would be one ranting wall of reasons why this shouldn't be done. However, I feel that because it is being done by some of the original creative team (and they have the right to do whatever they want with their stuff), so I'll hold off on the nay-sayings for now and let it be. They're using a similar script with NO cgi dolls and may make some use of new tricks for their greener project.

I'm not going to end my boycott on sequels and remakes by going to the cinema to check it out, not downloading it (I got the 2nd X-Files film from torrents and I will be buying it upon its DVD release - see there is justice in my film ethics rules :D) and I won't be watching it on TV when it comes on. But if I'm with a friend and they're adamant on watching it because they haven't seen it, they'll I'll let it play. Truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of the originals, I don't hate it or anything.

In conclusion, I'm not saying sequels and remakes are a good thing, I'm just saying the creator(s) should be given a chance to show they're not just low on creativity and money. It's meant to be for the fans and I'm sure even the true die-hards will tell them if it sucks.

one thing that reall brings my piss to a boil about remakes though...
is asian horror to american remakes! THEY ALWAYS FUCK THEM UP!!
and i heard they're doing a tale of two sisters!! that film was beautiful, scary and one of the few films i actually enjoy [that have been tagged with 'horror'].. i feel bad for american, first iraq then the whole remake culture.

Allow me stand on top of a building, tear my shirt a little and shout;

"Is nothing sacred!?"

That would be The Omen. I swear they only remade it to release it on 6/6/6.

Yes my sister just told me about this yesterday(dont know how she found out before me)
It seems all the classics are being remade. Halloween last year. Friday the 13th in February 09
and theyre also thinking about a nightmare on elm street remake as well. I guess its good that theyre trying to show a new generation some good horror but why is it suddenly so popular to remake anything and everything?

People aren't creative anymore.

I blame the Internet, video games, television, AND rap music.

after reading a sparse synopsis on the friday the 13th movie, it sounds like a sequel without a number since its set at camp crystal lake(which has been closed down in the movie) and Jason is the guy killing everyone.

So Jason lost the biotech upgrades and the chrome mask, and has found his way back to earth?

I think it's a total reboot of the series, like the new Galactica was, and some of the old canon will not apply. I'm assuming they're not simply remaking #1, but reinventing it. As such, they aren't going to go with the whole "It's Jason's Mother" story again, because we all know it, it wouldn't be a surprise.

What I'm hoping for is them doing like the new Halloween, and showing Jason when young and at the camp, show his death, and fill in the backstory a little.
if it's any consolation jason can run in this movie.

What about 28 Days Later?

And The White Chamber? Or Event Horizon?

They were three good examples of the modern horror genre.
