I'm currently looking into getting my hands on a Nintendo DS Lite (not DSi for obvious reasons), but I'm not sure if I really want to cash in and buy one. Also I'm not sure if there are enough games to satisfy my purchase of one. Could there be any chance of another price cut before the holiday season?

Anyways, the games I'd currently like are:
Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
Guitar Hero On Tour.
GTA: China Town Wars (unsure on this one).
Pokemon Platinum (played every generation beforehand).
And obviously I'd like to get my hands on Scribblenauts when it arrives.

So, should I buy a DS Lite?

The games you like are pretty unique in that I haven't seen others like those on the console. However I will say that there are a ton of other games on it that are rather enjoyable and will eat your soul (see Meteos). There is a chance for it to go on sale near the holidays, but no word on a price drop as of yet. I'd say go for it, as DS's tend to sell out near the holidays.

I don't see why you wouldn't buy a DSi, aside from price. But I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing a DS of some sort. Buy Bangai-O and Sonic Rush.

Yes, you should get a DS lite. I don't know if there will be a price cut, but it's already pretty cheap. If you do get it you must get:
Scribblenauts
The World Ends with You
Pokemon Platinum
Advance Wars:Days of Ruin

Why not get a DSi? You say the reasons are obvious, but I can't think of a good reason not to get one:
-Smaller
-Better Screen
-Downloadable games (plus you get 1000 free credits when you buy and register one)
-Two cameras (which admittedly you'll never use)

Get a DS, that's a definate yes, but at least consider the DSi.

Yes, you should buy a DS Lite. And while you're at it, give TLoZ: Phantom Hourglass and Chrono Trigger a shot, they're both great games.

Yeah, go for it. I got mine, new, for £90 from Morrisons. Also, it came with Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which is a brilliant game.

Also, Chrono Trigger and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days are both great games.

Well, one is, the other will be.

I would say yes. I have made a number of shaky game purchases in my life so far, but the one decision I have never regretted was getting a DS.

Btw, there is also a Golden Sun coming out for the DS, just incase any one was interested.

Probably because there's no GBA slot. That's a deal breaker for me too.

The solution is simple: have a GBA (which, if you own GBA games, you probably already have).

Yes but buy one of the ones with a red or blue top half as they are made with a better frame that doesn't scratch or smudge as easily. Also regular DS lites have a tendency for the part that attaches the top and bottom screens to slowly break apart while the two colors do not.

Do it, then buy ELITE BEAT AGENTS. Then thank me later.
Ninja'd. A friend made the huge mistake of lending it to me. He won't get it back anytime soon.

Anyways, the DS is well worth the purchase, with a great selection of games in all genres.

Does it hurt, not being able to read at your age?

If he's interested in Guitar Hero, how's he going to play that without the GBA slot?

Thank you for your replies. I will probably get a DS in the not too distant future (Unskippable anyone?). Though I should mention that I already own the first PSP and have about 9 games for it (if playing at all I'm playing Rock Band: Unplugged), so I still might skip out on a DS if the release list on the PSP gets better (though it probably won't).

Well you won't save thát much money by buying a Lite instead of a DSi. But as far as I know, the DSi has some distinct disadvantages wich would make me pick a Lite:
- It's screen is bigger, yes, but the resolution is still the same, thus everything is more pixelated.
- It's battery life is shorter.
- No GBA slot, and I still play GBA games.

Also I wholeheartly recommend Professor Layton And The Curious Village. It's a fantastic puzzle game, great story, fantastic artwork, good soundtrack, etc etc, you wouldn't regret it. I doubt you'll regret getting any DS anyway, it really has a great selection of games. Just ignore the shovelware.
