Considering getting killing floor is it worth it?

I just hit my 200 hour point for L4D2 (xbox and PC combined) and have been following posts about The Killing Floor.
For those of you who played it, know that I love L4D and have put hours upon hours into the series. Would Killing Floor be for me?

I don't like it because it's not cooperative like L4D in the sense that you must rely on your other teammates or you absolutely WILL fail.

In Killing Floor, it's a game of L4D survival by yourself with 3 other people, if that makes sense.

Maybe, it's not a lot like L4D2. There isn't a set objective(other than survive) and there is only co-op, so no versus. Most of the time, you'll be standing in a corner and outlive the swarms. It is still quite hard, and you entire squad can be wiped rather quickly, as in seconds, by the weakest enemy.

I've been playing it a bit and the more I play it, the more I enjoy it. :) It's highly dependent on your team though. It's no fun with a rubbish team.

However, slightly annoyingly it's pushing me down the sharpshooter path by giving me the biggest buffs to my usual playstyle. I wanted to medic and BERSERKER - and whilst I do my fair share of the healing and meleeing, there's usually a better medic/berserker on the team which would mean it's better for me to take the sharpshooter buffs as I have them to a higher level and use them well.

Still, I love the base 9mm. :D

If you like L4D, you won't automatically love Killing Floor, it's a very different game. That said, it's good (if you don't mind the deliberately cheesy voice acting and the fact that it's on the UT2004 engine, thus looks a bit worse than L4D games). It's an arena shooter more than the "get to point B" type game L4D is. You have to kill off a wave of the enemies, then get to the trader to buy and resupply, Counter Strike style, then you use your better guns to kill the next, harder wave of enemies. If anything, I'd say it's closer to Counter Strike in it's gameplay than L4D (although if you love the hordes, the modded larger playercount servers will provide you many waves of them, if you don't mind waiting an age if you get killed off until the end of the wave).

I watched my boyfriend play and played a little bit myself, but not enough to give a good review. If you're into shooters in general, then I'd say go for it.
I also laughed at the so stereotypically Britishness too. "Ey up, Guv'nor, where's my benefits check?"

What do you think of that new Berserker perk that lets you extend slow-mo?

I find it really annoying, but I wanted to know how other people felt about it...
I can't say I've come across it (or noticed it if I have). I've actually only played it for a few hours, you see. But it's definitely something I'm going to go back to a lot. I'm noticing that if I buff my medic skill I get a better MP7 though! I loved that gun, but I didn't like the 20 bullet clip. So that's encouraging.

You probably should've gotten it last week when it was 10 bucks. But I probably wouldn't pay 20 for it.

Yeah, I love it. Dual hand cannons make you feel awesome, I have been in a number of servers were I joined mid game and people threw money at me so I could get better weapons, the bullet time thing happens a little too much though.

It's a little different from the L4D series, I think L4D is more team based, were as if you stay together in KF you survive (although I haven't tried the harder settings).

I just wish I could get it to work on my computer ...

I really can't get the dual handcannons to work. Without a proper sight, I can't get as many headshots... I tried them once and then sold them when my killrate dropped dramatically. >>

Who cares? You feel awesome! I can get a few head shots, ADS zooms in a little then put there head between both guns and fire ... otherwise aim for the body and let rip!

Picking the sharpshooter perk helps aswell.

Definitely not the same game as L4D, mainly it has a meta-leveling system is in place with 6-classes that gives you bonuses on weapons and discounts at the store (Commandos get cheaper assault rifles, Medics get Medicguns easier, etc.) Left for dead has nothing like that. Instead of 100 running zombies like L4D has with one or two special zombies at a time, KF has many different zombies that spawn in waves. There is no checkpoints and thus no reason to really explore the map, except for finding guns and armor that can really save you a lot of money at the beginning. But you are forced to explore because the trader switches positions every wave.

It is definitely worth it to try it.
